If there is a lesson I learned when using Facebook is that people that are no longer part of your life should remain away. Facebook does not reconnect you with the people from your past that you didn’t know about in years- because time and distance change people and generally not for the better. I quit two years ago and I still see people so glued to this forsaken social network along with others and combined with the psychological decay due to the pandemic people have become extremely distant, nomophobic and hostile.

Quit facebook as well. It wastes time. I found myself scrolling passively. I examined the people who were enjoying social media the most. The people getting the most benefit, and I realized I didn't like any of them or the kinds of people they were portraying themselves as. Attention seeking people, hungry for validation. I might have been one of them, but over the years, you just realize you don't actually have this much invested interest in other people's lives. I don't care what you're eating, where you're going, who you're hanging out with. It's a two way street so I stopped presenting my life to people. My mental health was in the crapper for the past few years. I did many things. Meditation. Therapy. Self-care. Truly loving myself. And, one of the things I was surprised to find standing in my way was social media. It was a must to remove. I love my family and friends, but you kind of cease having anything to talk about when you know everything. "oh, I saw on Facebook..." I was tired of having conversations like that. I was also tired of friends giving me attitude when I asked about their lives in person too, "I posted it on facebook. Don't you check?" Almost in an ego kind of way, as if you're deserving of my attention every day like you're my "news feed." When that feature came onto facebook, I complained, stressing that my friends and family aren't "news." I'm not collecting people and wanting a popularity contest with their content. This is their lives. Not entertainment. That's when I knew Facebook wasn't there to create a moral and fair environment. An environment that doesn't help you learn to socialize with humanity in a healthy manner. Social media makes me fear for the future of our world. It has some benefits which people will argue for those benefits as if that's all that they can see. As if they can't understand the detrimental mental health effects over time, over years. Nor recognizing the symptoms within themselves. With what happened in January, you can see what happens when information and social media is left to the hands of people who want to monetize speech. Social media wraps itself in a UI that parades itself as if it's there for you and your benefit. What it really wants it to sell your information and keep you in the wheel of addiction. And that was the very purpose of the "news feed." Not to help me sort my family and friends better, but to keep the most entertaining things first so I'll keep viewing ads and participating. Facebook and social media as a whole doesn't care about your micro social life, it wants you forever stuck in a toxic relationship -- a loop.
@SR777363 жыл бұрын
Exactly this is exactly how I feel. Nothing but people showing off and seeking attention and trying to force their lifestyle and views on others. I am not interested in them. And they only post the good stuff and half of it it fake and filtered. It's annoying and unrealistic. I definitely don't care at all to validate someone for something basic that everyone does. I too recently deleted Facebook and my goodness it’s been amazing. I just couldn’t do it anymore, Facebook is so toxic. I couldn’t stand how Facebook did every single thing which made it so addictive to me. And it’s really sad how everyone is so addicted to their phones and are just zombies. Hell my wife scrolls for hours but I’m hoping this change will open her eyes. Speaking of which when I told people I deleted FB people thought I was crazy haha. But who wants to be normal, I like being the odd man out. I guess I’m old school and still like to TALK to people, anyways it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made and hope more will make this change

i suspended my account yesterday. I joined it in 2007 - 15 years of the habit. Too many superficial people that were simply not friends. So much information was given to these people who did not deserve that information. 'Friends' - they are not and that is what hurts without even knowing it. the superficial nature is hurtful even if you are not fully aware of it. And the fact that when I made the decision to leave I felt it only necessary to inform 4 or 5 on the 'friends' list - I doubt if any other will even notice that I have gone.

Left FB on Dec 31, 202 8:25 3. Haven't been back for many of the reasons already mentioned here. It's the biggest mega mall online designed to induce buying responses by its users while having fun....kind of like a Las Vegas Slot machine, addictive, affecting my mood information gathering system ......I went back to books, poetry, puzzles, games, learning ASL online, becoming more fluent in Spanish, writing actual letters to friends, arts and crafts, almost 0 TV etc ... self care and peace of mind and heart has been my priority. No impulse buying, better sleep...... ......I could go on but I won't. Great video content and great advice! Leaving FB is One of the best decisions I've ever made without a doubt.

Glad you saw the light. Your true friends are warm when you hug them. Anything else is simply a well designed computer system for gathering information. Then I also find that FB is a massive waste of time and does feel like a high school popularity contest. It is Fakebook. I want more time for reading and my creative writing.
