@@roberhart I realized that it was becoming a huge distraction in my life. In the first few years, I found Facebook to be very entertaining and useful for keeping up with friends and family, in addition to engaging in soccer debates in the (now defunct?) Chelsea FC group. Anyway, as time passed and my career progressed, I became more concerned about pursuing more intellectually stimulating activities while preserving my privacy at the same time.

If there is a lesson I learned when using Facebook is that people that are no longer part of your life should remain away. Facebook does not reconnect you with the people from your past that you didn’t know about in years- because time and distance change people and generally not for the better. I quit two years ago and I still see people so glued to this forsaken social network along with others and combined with the psychological decay due to the pandemic people have become extremely distant, nomophobic and hostile.

I left Facebook 7 years ago and it's one of THE best life decisions I ever made. I suffer from depression/anxiety and once I quit I noticed that I was back to my old self. I read tons of books, I've started a small business and I feel better about myself being away from the distractions of looking at other people's lives constantly (which made me more depressed as I was long term unemployed) The only downside is that I don't meet up with people so much and I'm not in the loop to find out where parties are but hey that's the price I payed for my freedom, great video man.

Quit facebook as well. It wastes time. I found myself scrolling passively. I examined the people who were enjoying social media the most. The people getting the most benefit, and I realized I didn't like any of them or the kinds of people they were portraying themselves as. Attention seeking people, hungry for validation. I might have been one of them, but over the years, you just realize you don't actually have this much invested interest in other people's lives. I don't care what you're eating, where you're going, who you're hanging out with. It's a two way street so I stopped presenting my life to people. My mental health was in the crapper for the past few years. I did many things. Meditation. Therapy. Self-care. Truly loving myself. And, one of the things I was surprised to find standing in my way was social media. It was a must to remove. I love my family and friends, but you kind of cease having anything to talk about when you know everything. "oh, I saw on Facebook..." I was tired of having conversations like that. I was also tired of friends giving me attitude when I asked about their lives in person too, "I posted it on facebook. Don't you check?" Almost in an ego kind of way, as if you're deserving of my attention every day like you're my "news feed." When that feature came onto facebook, I complained, stressing that my friends and family aren't "news." I'm not collecting people and wanting a popularity contest with their content. This is their lives. Not entertainment. That's when I knew Facebook wasn't there to create a moral and fair environment. An environment that doesn't help you learn to socialize with humanity in a healthy manner. Social media makes me fear for the future of our world. It has some benefits which people will argue for those benefits as if that's all that they can see. As if they can't understand the detrimental mental health effects over time, over years. Nor recognizing the symptoms within themselves. With what happened in January, you can see what happens when information and social media is left to the hands of people who want to monetize speech. Social media wraps itself in a UI that parades itself as if it's there for you and your benefit. What it really wants it to sell your information and keep you in the wheel of addiction. And that was the very purpose of the "news feed." Not to help me sort my family and friends better, but to keep the most entertaining things first so I'll keep viewing ads and participating. Facebook and social media as a whole doesn't care about your micro social life, it wants you forever stuck in a toxic relationship -- a loop.

Exactly this is exactly how I feel. Nothing but people showing off and seeking attention and trying to force their lifestyle and views on others. I am not interested in them. And they only post the good stuff and half of it it fake and filtered. It's annoying and unrealistic. I definitely don't care at all to validate someone for something basic that everyone does. I'm ready to drop Facebook permanently in the near future. In recent times I'm adamant in feeling that it's never been "fun" or "engaging" but more of a compulsive habit. Yes it's there for "connecting with friends" but even then I've never felt truly "connected" and it's led to more bad to good, along with seeing so many other people just drive themselves insane. I also feel it's a psychological thing as likes and engagements feeds that attention as well. i suspended my account yesterday. I joined it in 2007 - 15 years of the habit. Too many superficial people that were simply not friends. So much information was given to these people who did not deserve that information. 'Friends' - they are not and that is what hurts without even knowing it. the superficial nature is hurtful even if you are not fully aware of it. And the fact that when I made the decision to leave I felt it only necessary to inform 4 or 5 on the 'friends' list - I doubt if any other will even notice that I have gone.

It's the biggest mega mall online designed to induce buying responses by its users while having fun....kind of like a Las Vegas Slot machine, addictive, affecting my mood information gathering system ......I went back to books, poetry, puzzles, games, learning ASL online, becoming more fluent in Spanish, writing actual letters to friends, arts and crafts, almost 0 TV etc ... self care and peace of mind and heart has been my priority. No impulse buying, better sleep...... ......I could go on but I won't. Great video content and great advice! Leaving FB is One of the best decisions I've ever made without a doubt.

@@roberhart Thanks for asking! It's been great since I got rid of FACEBOOK! Now I have: . More mental peace, tranquility . More time to Pray, Plan things to do, Organize my home, Talk more to my neighbors, friends, and family . Paint and sketch more . Walk more . Smile more . In general, I feel like I came out of a prison, and now I'm free! 🤗🙂😇 . The REAL world is 100% better than any VIRTUAL or AUGMENTED world! . Dec. 1, 2021

This is just wonderful! I wish everyone who is on the fence about Facebook could read your experience. It would help guide so many people. Keep living it up in the real world!!!!

I feel like I’m probably a rare Facebook user. I don’t take my profile seriously. Any information sold from my profile is useless. Any information gathered from my mic and used to target ads doesn’t bother me. I don’t buy products because of a advertisement anyway. Also, I like to see targeted ads in my feed. If I have to see ads it might as well be something that I like. It’s kind of fun seeing dorky Star Wars/fandom ads in my feed. I’d never buy them but it’s fun.

I admire that mindset. I know for me, my profile bordered on being a joke but it was too real and I noticed I would get sucked in to the Facebook rabbit hole too much. Keep using your Facebook smart 👌

I HATE FACEBOOK yet I use it anyhow and when I post something on there, I always get into trouble and am held accountable for what I post by family members. I plan to DELETE it but the 30 days deletion process keeps luring me back in. I'm stuck in this never ending perpetual cycle spiral here of a LOVE & HATE relationship for social media.

I just deleted Facebook yesterday and i was sad right there you know theres a problem. My marriage status on my husband says married. But Facebook doesn't defined us as a couple. This will give me opportunity to spend the time with my children. And i did have a tiktok got rid of that 2 years ago.

I am from Pakistan, and people here have only one escape from worries and that is Facebook, just imagine every person of a country escaping their problems by using Facebook, how it must be affecting their mental health. We don't even have proper mental asylums. It's pure mess here. Thankfully I found the courage and left Facebook.

I have been off of facebook for a few months now. Best thing I ever did. I do miss connections but not the forum, hours of endless scrolling, their algorithms and bait punish tactics. Waste of time. I text email and call my real close friends and family!!!! I am not their advertisement pigeon anymore!!!!

I quit Facebook but I have a page to teach my language and another one for discussing a certain religion so I just enter every few weeks, I post something and I immediately log out which takes 5 minutes, I even put the app hidden... I'm so grateful 💙
