Mad respect for you, bro. In these modern times, it's easy to get distracted by social media or emails and eventually derailed into a constant spiral of negative thoughts and unproductivity.

When I was in college, I had a mentor who was in his early fifties. Incidentally, the age I am now. He used to refer to his daily routine as his productive rut. Even at that age, I saw the wisdom in it and I have always maintained a productive rut of my own.

Awesome video. It's been two weeks since I started waking up at 5am and I can honestly say, it is life-changing. Since my son was born, I barely thought about myself, now that he's around 9 months old, I've taken more notice of myself and one of the biggest changes I've made is waking up at 5am, I do very similar things to yourself and I also hit the gym, do my workout, shower, breakfast and then I'm ready for work. I'm on a transformation, not just physically, but also mentally, to make myself stronger. As I said, it's been two weeks, 6.8 pounds down and a lot more to go. Best of luck, Brian. Always love watching your videos!

Congrats!!! Appreciate the comment and I wish you the best. Getting into a routine like that is incredibly rewarding and you’re seeing the fruits of your labor. It’s great to hear. Honestly, what you identify as an issue - rushing and the effect on mental health - is one big reason I decided to retire as soon as I could. The Army and the culture at my unit started to have a very negative impact on both of those things for me. And now, I don’t rush. And I feel great.

@8th account I completely understand you and empathise with you, but I don't mean to sound cliche, taking care of yourself as in putting yourself first is more important than anything, including your friends and family and your social life. The more you pour into yourself, the more you can pour for others. Social life is important and you 100% should have a social life, but waking up at 5am from Mon-Fri and then maybe you can socialise on Friday and Saturday nights and use Sunday to get ready for the week ahead? But as I say, do what you need to do so you'll thank yourself in a year (or two, three...) from now. All the best buddy :)

Being in the corporate world for 30+ years and still a tad too young to retire, I love watching these vicariously, but I don't work for myself nor have this amount of time or control. I'm up at 6am. Taking care of the dogs, a workout, shower, and coffee is always rushed. I work from home but it is stressful and isolated. Having a wall of video meetings does not compensate for being in my home office for 9-10 hrs/day. We used to be an in-office corporation. Now we aren't. Boundaries no longer exist. People abuse calendars. I'm just counting down my last 4-5 yrs.
@HughMirin-Bruh Жыл бұрын
I've experienced the same. But not anymore. Meeting before 9? Nope! Meetings after 17:30? Nope! Pick some other timeslot buddy. Use my calendar for reference this time or give me a very good reason for me to accept your request. You don't get boundaries. You set them. At least, that's my experience.

I definitely want to try this. However, one of my fears is that a whole 4 hours of focusing on my pre-work routine will have made me feel tired by the time I'm ready to do actual work. I feel as though that's more than enough time that I would need to focus on myself. I might instead budget an hour for the morning and an hour to take a walk. Beyond that, it seems it would become tiring after a while - or that I might begin procrastinating.

I was one people shouting about this book in the comment section. Happy to hear that the books has been helpful. I omitted to include sickness, oversleeping, weeknight dinner partys in to my routine and ultimately failed. I needed to simplify my morning routine a lot. How have you managed to make your routine suitable in the long term? Have you listened or read the book "4000 weeks, time management for mortals" by Oliver Burkeman. Interested to hear your thoughts on the book. I have not read the book, but I have listen to lectures given by the author. And have found many of his opinions gateways to contemplation.

Enjoy your day and don’t even take the time to read those negative comments from other people; people always throw rocks to the trees bearing fruits, so it is understandable they will criticize those who have the courage to do what they decide not to do or what they can’t do.

My workday starts at 8. I get up 5 and 5 to 6.30 I get dressed, fix my hair and iron my shirt and pants. The last 30 I help my daughter getting ready for kindergarten and then at 7 I leave for work. The commute is usually around 20 - 25 minutes and I like being early, so I'm normally at my desk at work around 7.30 - 7.40. I don't understand how someone can get up 5 and be so relaxed. I need 1.5 hour to get dressed. And it's not like I'm tired and slow because of it. It just takes time and I use every second as effectivelly as I can. I guess wearing suit to work just takes a lot of time to put on. So maybe that's why I'm so slow. Anyway, my work require almost no work at all. I can do whatever I want for 8 hours, then go home, take care of my daughter and when she's sleeping I get 4-6 hours of me-time with no obligations. So I get to relax a lot anyway so the stressful morning doesn't really matter.

Hey Brian. Last year, my routine looked very similar to yours. Wake up at 4:45, go to the gym, breakfast, read, work(from home) at 10:00am. That year was by far my most productive year of my life. There was one important issue though. My social life took a significant hit. I had to go to bed at 21:00 - 21:30 in order to get enough sleep and as a result my schedule was completely different from my friends. Does your schedule interfere with your social life? I understand that this has to do with many things like age(I'm in my late twenties), family responsibilities, different cultures etc. but I'd really appreciate your input on this.
@mch0004 Жыл бұрын
I thought I'd just give my input even if you were asking Brian directly. I'll preface it by saying I'm in my mid 30s. My daily schedule is almost exactly as you described including bedtime, so I understand what you mean about taking a hit in your social life. Fortunately for me, my friends are quite understanding of this (it's become more of a running joke now, my bedtime) so we try to set up lunch or daytime activities on the weekends instead or plan to leave earlier if we want to have dinner. Communication really goes a long way. But I think it also goes without saying that friendship is a two way street so we do need to work around our friends schedules as well from time to time. Getting enough sleep is a non-negotiable for me so I look at it as sacrificing night life for a much more peaceful morning life with quiet roads (cyclist/runner).
@zarzonis Жыл бұрын
@@mch0004 Hello Michael. Thanks for your reply and for sharing your experience. I couldn't agree more with what you say about communication and friendship being a two way street. Last year, what bothered me the most about my schedule, was when I worked around my friends schedules staying up late, the next day was really difficult. Of course, I'd set the alarm clock later in order to get enough sleep but I was always getting up at around 05:00 no matter what. My body was used to getting up naturally at that time. As a result, I was really tired without enough sleep and it took me 1-2 days to get back on track. Anyway, I realize now that even though my last year's schedule was not perfect, for me and my goals, it was better in almost every way than a more "normal" schedule. That peaceful mornings were something special. I'll definitely try to adopt it again this year, this time taking into consideration all my previous learning and experiences.

Let's keep it real 💯. Waking up early will not change most peoples lives. But I will say that waking early for some people will increase the probability of better productivity and may assist in planning and accomplishing goals faster. It's really all about good habits and discipline. Doing what needs to be done, even when you don't feel like it. There is no magic pill, quick fix, change this, and all will be well. It's a process. A journey of lessons. We fail, and then we make adjustments. Figure out what works for you. Implement what produces results and discard the rest. Modify when necessary, but keep it simple. Simplification is key. Good luck, fellas! 👍🏻
