Not at all, he is in fact way underrated and I am surprised by the amount of of youtubers who just gloss over it whenever the French Revolution or Napoleon are discussed. I am making videos on YT as a hobby and I really wanted to make a series detailing the French campaign and what happened after Napoleon left (yet another glossed over period of Egyptian-French history). But I believe that the impact of the invasion itself was small compared to what happened next. As the struggle for power afterwards allowed the Mohamed Ali Pasha to takeover Egypt, and to cut a long story short, he is the reason why Egypt is an independent country. I made a small series about his campaigns if you wanna check it out (excuse the quality, this is just my hobby :D )

Yea if he didn't invaded Egypt it's most likely that we wouldn't understand ancient Egypt as we do now but keep in mind that in that time Napoleon's invasion was like a wake up call for Egypt who's being long lost its place in intellectual contribution due to it's being occupied by the ottomans but if -and it's a big if- the rosette stone was found by a waked up Egypt or a not colonial force it's most certainly that we would understand ancient Egypt more clearly and would have most ancient artifacts not looted The irony is that to this day the looting is ongoing rapidly on a governmental scale and the intellectual minds are being oppressed and so we need another wake up call

It would've been found eventually I think. French soldiers discovered it underground while strengthening existing fortifications in Alexandria. Far more questionable would be whether whoever would have found it otherwise would have seen its value and not just dumped/destroyed it. The French discovering it first was serendipitous since part of the reasoning behind the invasion was for a scientific expedition about ancient Egypt.
@riyadougla539

Invasion of Russia would have been 2 pronged. Le Grande Armee through Poland and Belarus. Then also from the south possibly, using Arabic troops under French leadership. This could have been a crucial difference-maker if the south army smashed into the Russian industrial military complex area which was Southeast of Moscow. Where the Russians rested their army after abandoning Moscow.

@@joerogue231 I heard the India angle as well. Logistically speaking I wonder how that would have done. Considering his attrition rate during the march towards Moscow. Also, his extremely lukewarm European allies, looking to turn on him. Then marching into a high population-dense area like India. But maybe. If he already sort of established a reputation as a liberator in Egypt. Muslim Indians might have turned against the British for him. Would be interesting to look into if there are any obscure diplomatic French missions prior to this to Afghanistan, Persia, India etc.

Sadly, much of the achievement of Napoleon's (radical) progressive enlightened policies, French technology and science, was undone by the eventually victorious British; brutally despotic global masters. Napoleon was fighting for democracy, the point of the revolution that brought him to power. His enemies were kings, and he defeated one after another. Napoleon's eventual fall was a horrid blow back-step to democracy for humanity. It wasn't until 100yrs later, WW1 that Europe was rid of the kings, dictators by birth.

@@HikmaHistory well Napoleon's actions lead to a geographic and political restructuring of Europe. Borders and families that had stood since the crusades were no longer in place. As a result this caused tension all throughout Europe during the 1800s which is the direct cause of WW1. WW2 is just a continuation of that conflict and all the policies and politics we have in place today come directly from the influences of the time period.
