100% right! In all honesty, it's one of those things where you cant expect things to come to you. It's something where you have a goal of what you want and go out and do it. Good on ya

This couldn't be more true, if you're new to the project making scene, listen to what she has said here. If we're being honest, an idea is just an amateur's "complete" project, and no one wants to work next to/with an amateur. They want to work with an expert or at least someone they can rival in skill. So do your work, finish your projects, you'll eventually catch the eye of someone. And when find your self in the ruts of lack of motivation, the pitiful and generic school book principal of 'not giving up' goes a long way, do not give up, finish your work, move past go and collect $200. Simple, never said it was easy, but being an expert is worth it. I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!1!!!

I've actually felt very devoted to a project once, after being indifferent about it, just because I was assigned a great task in it and I was honored for completing it :D Also, another great tip for meeting people is participating in project-based learning events/workshops etc. and not only as a participant, as an observer to other participants. Seeing how people work, interacting with other team leaders and asking about person x and person y, and how they are doing. Sometimes the outcome is a sneaky yellow smile and some sweet words, but just at that exact moment you're knowing other personalities, you're determining, from attitudes, who's efficient and who's caring... And vice versa! Also if there was different teams in a project-based learning process and they were to show off their work at the end, this is absolutely better, add a S.W.O.T. analysis and you have a full view of all the participants. If you knew a good one, that's a connection to get to know! Why I talked about PBL (Project-Based Learning) in particular? Because it shows real metals. :D

Now I know the second reason, why a project me and my friends were doing didn't work out. While I knew exactly why I wanted to make games specifically, they did not. All they said, would be something like: "Oh It's cool and fun". Yet non of my team mates did a single thing. But the main reason was, that I let them be lazy and flow on their own. As a result I made all the basic code and the artist did nothing, the story writer did 50% of what was expected of her and it froze completely.

You are correct that the hardest part is getting a quality team together. Some ideas to further expand on your idea I think would be to visit artist sites like deviant art and other artist like websites. You can start networking with others by simply following different artists on artist sites and perhaps could maybe offer to buy one of their works of art and perhaps email back and forth with them about one of your crazy video game ideas. I think with anything that requires a lot of work whether it be a research paper, project, or video game you need an outline of what you want to accomplish. If you just want to create a small game then your team won't have to be all that big but if you want to create a larger game you may need two small teams both working on the project but on different parts of the project. I think the more research you do the more money you are likely to save so the sooner you start researching = more money you are likely to save.

Great video and channel! Thanks a lot for the "don't just read, post!" bit of advice. Maybe it comes at a particular moment of methodology convergence for me, but it really gave me a boost to improve my networking ("with PEOPLE") and my workflow (way more than any similarly themed article/video/thing managed up till now). I really appreciate how you are distinctively earnest, non-pedantic and devoid of run-of-the-mill self help buzz! Really, kudos to you, keep up these videos!

One thing that was not said, is that if you put the word out about your project more and more people would try to jump on your team the more complete the product gets, and whilst that'd be a good way of meeting people in the industry, it also might end up being e-mail spamfest of not-so-commited or not-so-skillful people, who will vanish at the first sign of trouble.

Hey, +TheHappieCat. Have you considered doing game tech analysis like Digital Foundry or NXGamer do? I think you're knowledgeable enough to provide even more in-depth insight into the technological aspects of video games. Consider making such video if you haven't, I'm very interested in that sort of thing.

My takeaway from watching 1 min 29 sec of this video: Do 80% of the work yourself, and hire people only for the last 20%... sounds reasonable so far! I can totally Imagine myself making a game, and then telling an artist: "Make this programmer art look good!" Keep in mind, succeeding with a game is like winning a race, it's that last 20% that will get your success, the first 80% is a simple pre-requisite for success. I haven't actually tried this yet, but I'd recommend pirating sprites from other games for your initial game's graphics. Mega Man works better than a green square, even if they will both be replaced later on. A stick figure is the best programmer art of all though.

I've had a question in mind, should I get books about programming/game dev? (I'm learning C++ and it's my first lang) Also, this video will come in handy. Thanks :3
@mistermuffin7108 жыл бұрын
+Xigabyte Tm I got C++ for Dummies. It's a pretty old book (as it was made to teach C++09) but nevertheless it has taught me well. I have also learned very much from the KZbin channel MakingGamesWithBen. Go to the C++/Game Tutorials playlist and it is very informative with clear tutorials. C++ is also my first language and was very daunting at first but with time became much easier.

learning programming from visual studio is not recommended. you end up 70% learning the IDE and 30% learning programming. I'd say getting mingw and learning it from a command line will focus your learning more on the language and less on the tools.

If you want to make a game, it's better to use game engines like Unity, UDK... unless you want to make something that these engines can't do. But if you want to make just because you're curious, try using OpenGL, SDL, GLFW, Allegro, DirectX, and search channels on KZbin like bisqwit and the cherno project.

@mistermuffin7108 жыл бұрын
+Hola Que How does one go about making a game engine? It seems very difficult.
@gameenginedeveloper47778 жыл бұрын
+MisterMuffin It all about physics and maths, if you know more or less about vector in 3D, rotation vectors or quaternions, and also about an special matrix used to draw 3D graphics into a 2D plane, you can develop an usefull Game Engine. Also you might develop the physics, and I think that would be the worse and hard side of the project xD But if you are self-confident, you can do whatever you want :). If you can think it, you can do it, that's my slogan :3
