A Very Kind Guy I mean, that's the same mindset as most Europeans. In England the popular sports are Soccer, Rugby, Cricket, some Basketball and Baseball (though to a much lesser extent). I know Darts and Snooker are also pretty popular. American football doesn't even have major a televised league in England as far as I can tell. You can't complain about Europe making fun of Football and then turn around and justify making fun of Soccer in America since it isn't popular. That's very hypocritical. And I'm American by the way. Played football for 4 years, hoping an adult league shows up in my soccer-dominated region soon.

One of the things I find entertaining about the NFL is that each position is so specialized, you end up with a large variety of athletic body types. You have guys who are essentially sumo wrestlers, guys who are like Olympic sprinters, and guys who are like crossfit pros who have to blend power, speed, and agility. NFL isn't really an aerobic endurance sport, but these guys are explosive athletes who either will run past you, jump over you, or flatten you. Hell, it might be the same guy doing all three. There's really no other sport that has that kind of extreme body types.

Being huge comes at a price... but they're Millionaires who can afford it.
@ariefraiser1407 жыл бұрын
Jean-Luc Maske-Stockdale Actually most NFL players are not millionaires. Each roster has 56 players. The NFL has one of the most strict salary cap in pro sports so there's only so much of the pie to go around. The Superstars get the lion's share. The average NFL salary is around $2 million but that number is skewed by the handful of players that make $10 million+ on a team. So after all that between taxes and agent fees a player may see 50% of his salary. Don't get me wrong this isn't soppose ti make you feel sorry for NFL players. Most still take home very high 6 figure pay after all deductions. I just wanted to correct the record. Most NFL players are not millionaires. www.businessinsider.com/charts-expose-how-badly-nfl-players-get-paid-2013-9

The first comment stated "..they're Millionaires who can afford it" In your post you've changed it to "They make more money in a year than we probably have saved up in 10" My original comment actually agrees with that statement. The issue I was trying to address was if MOST players were MILLIONAIRES.
@ariefraiser1407 жыл бұрын

Football gets a bad rep from people who've never played it on a team. It's actually a really complicated sport. It's not just hitting and catching a ball, it's more. Actually try to take time and look at the science behind it.
@pphyjynx82177 жыл бұрын
it's still needlessly dangerous, just compare the concussion severity and frequency to a similar sport in rugby
@quasim44877 жыл бұрын
PP Hyjynx o I know but I was talking about the reputation from it gets from outsiders. They say things like "Football players are dumb" and "Football kid just hitting each other" but most players are actually really smart and there's a lot of complications when it comes to the sport.
@johnnym117 жыл бұрын
It is not just hitting it is very stategy sport just try memorized full playbook as qb you need now protection recivers routes , hole numbers and what oppisite defence is doing are they in zone, man to man , cover one cover four, trap where point blitz is coming.

PP Hyjynx You could say the same about boxing or MMA. Tough sports cause injury. Stick to wrestle ball it’s safer.

They would be as tall, yes. But not nearly as heavy or strong. Your body adapts to the stress you put on it. If you place stress on your muscles for many years, they get stronger.

People are just bigger in general. We have an obesity problem in this country, but I don't think that the NFL is the cause. I think it's more of the obesity epidemic that is the cause of the NFL. Whether these guys played football or not, they would still likely be very big and have the same health risks. The NFL is not coming up to anyone that is over 6ft 5in and asking them to bulk up to 350lbs. They just see that people are already this size and they want these people to be a part of their team.

Most of these guys didn't get big to play on the line. They were already big so they were asked to play and excelled because of their combination of size and athleticism. If they didn't play, I'm guessing they would be bigger, more unhealthy, and have more medical problems.

Has nothing to do with rules. It’s all based on improvements in training, and humans in general just getting bigger. This is at all levels of football not just professional. Improving your performance in all aspects is what all athletes try to do, this includes size and strength.

Despite all the exotic passing offenses in football (i.e. spread, West Coast, etc.), in general, it still comes down to *which team can physically dominate the line of scrimmage* will determine who wins so the arms race for bigger and stronger linemen will continue.

Maybe the NFL should institute a weight limit based on your height. That way players won't have to choose between health and performance.

I don't think it' matters how athletic you are, if you're that heavy, it's unhealthy
@Calyx7 жыл бұрын
Weight is relative, though. You know what's also super unhealthy? Pro bodybuilders that drop down to 2% body fat the day before a major competition. Or people with no muscles that can't even lift a 20kg box because they sit on their ass all day. Not defending these guys, but weight itself isn't the cause of problems, it's fat, or the complete lack of fat

The “blocking below the waist” rule did change the game a lot. However, I would argue that the “eligible receiver” rule is causing even more “specializing” in certain positions. Consequently, the game is becoming less creative because too many rules are causing the sport to change dramatically from what it once was. In all, referees are bing forced by football leagues, which often are forced by the law, to enforce rules that are being made up each year. Therefore, the game is constantly evolving into a different sport from what it once was. It will remain this way forever unless the laws encompassing the game quit changing each year.

I don't know if this is mentioned, but there's the 1978 rule changes; besides the Mel Blount Rule (defenders can't make contact with WRs five yards past the line of scrimmage), offensive linemen can now extend their arms and use their hands in pass blocking situations.

@Codiliabra7 жыл бұрын
Nicke. All sports are dumb if you think about it. But, sportfans will argue it takes precise movement, planning, and rehearsal for a game to go smoothly and make a team win. This is applied to all sports. People throwing a ball, hitting a ball with a stick, kicking a ball, hitting a disc with a stick and grabbing a ball with a stick. Most sports involve getting whatever object you kick/hit into the other teams goal. If you break a sport down, each one can be called stupid and useless.
