It's not the same as supporting China over the US and allies like Activision it's not the same and Ubisoft wanting to own your content, it's not the same as Sony living and ban hammering people who found the truth on platforms it does not own about that lie it's not the same as EA's greed. They are doing this out of a passion for what they make yes if they don't like it be upfront about it but they tried that and it did not work. I don't blame you, I don't support any of the companies I just mentioned except EA and Nintendo. Thank you for this insight. As someone who practically grew up alongside Nintendo and defended them tooth and nail against naysayers who owned other consoles, to see that a company as big as Nintendo degenerating further and further into madness is especially heartbreaking. So many fan projects have been thrown under the bus by this company... heck, I still remember when a Zelda fansite made an entire movie based on Ocarina of Time from over a decade ago, and it got struck with a C&D. In 2009! I feel so dirty returning to this company for the new Animal Crossing on Switch. Now I can't look at these games, or the company, the same way ever again. Screw Nintendo.

I dont ever want to support Nintendo because they can't innovate themselves to support its fanbase or creators. After hosting tournaments, running my university's smash team and being part of the Michigan melee and PM communuty it feels like such a huge stab in the back that Nintendo only wants to ruin the advances the community has been making and growing as a whole. Not everyone wants to play your new game, people dont like ultimate and the fact they are giving a cease and desist on Slippi, which is an ad-on for an emulator to make it so more people would be accessible to playing melee online and gives people something to do while in quarantine. But instead of hiring that person or team to help them maybe fix their janky online or help them release a remake of melee entirely just shows how stuck in the past they are. I mean just look at Street fighter, they re-release 2 on every new platform because they know people want to play it still and that they'll make money off of it just shows the business model works. And its not only smash they've ruined, Nintendo rarely listens to any fan service and never seems to put out any new IPs people enjoy just a new entey in a series besides the ones they already know are successful enough not to fail. I was so excited for big house happening in Detroit since we don't have a lot going on downtown especially major esports but maybe we can crowd fund it and really give Nintendo a huge middle finger and still host the tournament regardless.

The company making some of the best selling games of 2020 or the person that thinks that a 19 yr old game is the best game? ;) On top of that, I doubt any other company would like seeing anyone host and stream their games running on an unofficial emulator either. At best, they'd ignore it if it's like a side event but a main event would raise red flags with their lawyers too.. Nintendo's view on other stuff like online is dated but their view on unofficial emulators and mods is still common today.

Most of this is actively keeping other companies from hosting events, shutting down big streams of the game, and using our popularity for ads while doing almost nothing to help us in return.

This is so stupid at so many level... People can't even comprehend the simple fact that they have EVERY rights (legal AND moral) to content ID, do cease&desists when people touch their intellectual PROPERTIES. And don't even say shit like "other companies don't do this". Good for them. That doesn't mean Nintendo isevil just because they decide to have complete control on their IPs instead to avoid things to escalate (sonic fangames for instances). They decided that Smash was NOT to be a competitive game and don't want people to use their brands in tournaments with cashprice (especially an old game which could overshadow the new one). Despite that if you're being a little bit honest with yourself Nintendo and Sakurai actually DID some effort to please this part of the community (the fact that they're currently still working with universities to create competitive circuits, the mechanics in Ultimate being more suited for the competitive matches, except the online and the invitational). It's slow but they're doing it even despite the shit people are throwing at them. The only thing I will agree on is that they're not committing enough to it and I don't think it's just because of "money money"... Honestly I would prefer if they made a clear choice, regardless of the consequences being good or bad. Like either you kill the scene properly or you leave it alone completely. And they're not doing that which IS actually annoying and make them seem as manipulative (even if it could not be the case). Oh and one last thing about that slippi thing... Emulation is allowed in the US and even in general ? Ok. ROMs aren't. Yes even for old games which aren't sold anymore (I'll talk about this afterwards though). So Nintendo has every legal and moral rights to take down ROMs. That's the same debate I have with fangames like AM2R... You can have all the good intentions in the world but people making those fangames and more specifically make them accessible to the public (for free or not) are legally AND morally as well ! Why ? Because you might think "Dude it doesn't even hurts the sales of the official games and it advertise their games". WRONG. I mean sure it might advertize their game... BUT in actuality it does hurt them. Because again maybe some people will still buy the official games... Except there are LOOOTS of dumb as F*** people going around spreading the idea the fans do better than the creators. Don't even pretend otherwise and don't even say they're a minority. Those, seemingly, harmless fan made, mods etc are disrespectful because you're making fame (again on purpose or not it does not matter) over their properties and they can do harm. Look at all those piece of shit who boycotted the official Metroid 2 remake by Mercury Steam (a remake which, by the way, is actually way more legit and better than that remake fanmade with a Super Metroid skin) !!! If I created a franchise with my hard work, I would be seriously offended, seeing a random guy stoling my characters, universes, concepts and make fame over them. That's a perfectly reasonnable, legal AND moral choice and I won't hear otherwise. If you want to make or help make Nintendo games you work hard to be able to achieve that goal and be hired by them. If you can that's how it is but you can do your own f***ing games inspired by your childhood games. Look at Ib, Doki Doki, Undertale and other indie games... All of those f***ing games, some of them inspired by other franchises, which don't get cease&desist. Now what is left ? Oh right... The content ID. Well same logic overall. Their IPs. If you want to get money use other games... Honestly they should be grateful since they could've claimed their videos period instead (which they do from time to time). The ROM websites. Same you don't have the legal right to download them. However I will agree on something... I understand and don't blame them however they have to understand, indeed, that if we can't have access to old games or musics they HAVE to give us a way to enjoy them (ven if we have to pay... I still think some hypocrites will still continue to steal and upload musics but regardless that would solve the issue and I think they're starting to understand since they love to bring back old games with remasters or HD ports. However it's just like with the competitive scene... They're too goddamn slow. Lastly there's also the issue of the price and the joycons. That's the third and last point I agree on... In the case of HD ports at least, excluding the Wii U ones in my opinions because they do have the right to have a second chance on Switch since people didn't buy that console at least. I'd say personnally they're both big flaws indeed of the Switch, as great as it is and it's a shame. So... Basically that's how it is. You want to boycott Nintendo, one of the only big editors making the industries and games interesting and diverse. One of the only editors understanding what a video game is supposed to be (which is not an interactive movie... With the only exception of point'n'clicks/visual novel like Ace Attorney). The only editor making experiences and trying the most to get out of their confort zone (most of the times of course) even if it doesn't work well sometimes (Wii U, Nintendo Labo, Mario Kart Home Circuit). One of the only big editors treating the studios under them well and giving them freedom and time instead of using crunch. Look at Metroid Prime 4 for Retro Studios, Monolith helping with BotW's sequel, platinum games with Bayo 3 and yes even GameFreaks (apparently it's Pokémon Company the ones forcing GameFreaks to release their games almost every years from what I've heard). Basically the company allowing us to enjoy even nowadays, to not be bored of this industry to be honest. ...You want to boycott them because they're protecting their IPs in the most legal and moral ways ?!! Literally the only thing you can criticize them for is their lack of balls with the smash fgc community, the way they don't make old games accessible (and if they're planning to it's slow), joycon drift and the prices of certain games. And you want to boycott them for just this ? That's it ? God forbids you to see them at their worst back then before Iwata was president. Honestly people are saying Nintendo has a totem of immunity from their fans... but honestly f*** off I say. Last time I checked pro-Sony sucked them off really good while being a pain in the ass during the Wii U era. Nintendo is on permanent notice in my eyes, and has been for a while. It's painful because there's some things that they get absolutely right that no other major player in the scene does, but they still hold fast and rigidly to archaic ideas that they don't see doesn't actually help them in the slightest and only fosters ill will with the community. And of course they make great first party games, some franchises amongst my favorites. It's like, choose your poison. What do you want to support? Censorship? Bad business practices? Abuse of content creators? Oh, wait, you like the exclusives? Then better bend over because you're not getting them unless you support a company doing evil things.

Yeah Nintendo's always only cared about money they try and pretend it's for the fans but that's always been the bottom line. Refusing to support eSports or forcing tournaments to shut down isn't surprising to me at all. They been incredibly scummy especially in the GameCube era onwards. I like their games but I hate the company, I'm trying to support them as little as possible. Only buying their games if they're on sale, and don't run like shit on switch. Also using multiple accounts in order to buy in other regions for a cheaper price. Honestly I think at this point there's a argument for Nintendo being worse then EA or Activision, at least those companies get critism when they deserve it. But Nintendo always gets some kind of excuse because they make good games; it's very annoying and I'm quite fed up with them too.

Esports are a testament to how pathetic society has become. It is bad enough that people are paying other people to play videogames... but the fact that people spend their time WATCHING OTHERS PLAY VIDEOGAMES is an absolute waste of time. Watching sports or porn is bad enough when you could be doing it yourself instead, but at least sports & sex have some value. Playing videogames is simply just a waste of time. These people that take Smash Bros so seriously sucked the lifeblood right out of it and made it not fun anymore.
