@@christopheryou5040 honestly if you had a business plan and found the distributors that harbor freight use you could likely raise the money from investors/angel investors to start it up. Do it slow and take care of the customers and it would boom. Nothing worse than seeing snap-on put workers into debt when you know exactly how much they cannot afford those purchases. Yes it's the workers decision but it's also hijacking their dopaminergic system to think "this will make me feel better." when it's the opposite lol.

@@distilledmilk2441 not really, like it or not, there is a difference in quality in at least half of the tools on tool trucks, for example, torx bits, when you get some Pittsburgh torx bits, they tend to round out the torx, same thing with the hex bits, if you get quality parts from snap on, Mac, matco, or really any reliable brand, you'll see a huge difference. Same thing with power tools, I think snap on and Milwaukee are the 2 top dogs for power tools, snap on may be ridiculously priced, but you're still getting quality and top notch stuff.

You pay for the truck, insurance, fuel and everything else on top of the standard price. You also have to consider that the CEO of Harbor Freight is on a mission to make good tools affordable again. The quality has gone up considerably in the last 10 years or so, and the price is still far lower than the big brands.

That’s bc a lot of mechanics have the same complex that low income families have with brand name shoes and clothes. High cost tools don’t make you a better mechanic any more than Jordan’s make you jump higher. They just make you look cooler to people with the same complex. I could see spending $100k on tools that would help you build a $50k engine but having $50-100k in tools to replace an alternator or change brake pads is ludicrous. It would make way more sense to have 2 of each tool you use a lot at $40/each and if one breaks just take it back after work(because they have a warranty too) vs spending $300 on one and can’t get a replacement until the truck comes back around

I am picking up what you guys are laying down mentioning a Harbor Freight mobile tool truck. One reason why Snapon is so expensive is probably because of their lifetime warranties. There are way more reasons of course. If Harbor Freight maintained their current warranty policy so as to not raise prices anymore and/or offer an upgraded warranty/member package that allows for extended or lifetime warranties then that may be huge for them business wise while still making customer happy. I am surprised by how well made ICON tools are. Makes sense now when a big guy on top at Snapon joined the Harbor Freight forces.

The prices of tools these days is insane when you consider the quality. I'm just a self taught hobbyist mechanic and my only tool store left with a location with AMB. They sell SK. Don is my favorite there, and I've been buying tools from him for over 16 years now. He won't stock junk, but he's voiced frustrations with the quality of SK in recent years. It's what Craftsman was in the 90's at double the price without accounting for inflation. For the most part I can't afford tool truck stuff, but I also refuse to spend my hard earned money on garbage. I also try to buy American made even if I know I'm paying too much. With that said some of the stuff coming out of Taiwan is actually decent. There have been times where I've needed a tool and didn't have the expendable income to buy SK or better. I've been genuinely impressed a couple times and had a lot more moments where shit breaks and I have to spend the money on a proper tool after lighting money on fire trying to save a few bucks in a pinch.

Not a tradesman myself but I heard somewhere that if you buy a shitty tool first to see how long it lasts or how often you use it, if it breaks or gets used a lot it’s worth buying a better one that will last years or alternatively buy multiple cheaper versions if it costs less over the amount of time it would take to replace the expensive one. Don’t need everything to be expensive and flashy, if it works it works. hope I explained that right:)

Work in a kitchen. We bought a $25 immersion blender from Walmart. We went through it in about 6 months. Took it back to Walmart with the receipt and got a new one for free. Did that about 10 more times. As opposed to buying a commercial grade blender for $1200 that does the same shit just quicker and lasts longer. Idk if it was worth it. Don’t know if it wasn’t. We eventually bought the $1200 immersion blender, but only certain people are allowed to use it. If they’re not at work, it doesn’t get used.
