I love how you covered the crash b-daman segment of this video. One of my favorite lines of B-Daman that and i love chainsaw man edit you pulled to make it look like the main character was firing at Aki’s house 😂. And yeah the core part of the crash b-daman is basically the marble man. A bridge way, connector to the the grip and barrel to lunch the marbles in between.
@林ルーカス

The Cross Fire series toys are also different not just marketing as Hasbro version are also different to save cost. Other than the dragon series B-Daman all just use the same core instead of their unique core. Bear is a power type cause the barrel was made with a rubber like plastic so when fire need more force to push, Scorpion one had a roller at the trigger for rapid fire. Reason why the dragon had their original design is cause when Cross Fire air in the West, the show in Japan already reveal all five Dragon Type and also showed that Dragold can use parts from all the other Dragon Series B-Daman parts

I’m probably late to this but in Japan each core had its own name, like thunder Dracyan’s Japan name was accel Dracyan. Each core had a specific piece that affected its performance slightly. The snake b-daman,s core had a piece on the back that would help guide the trigger more properly to help with precision since some slight change to how the trigger gets push can affect the marbles trajectory. Scorpio was fully design with his core to be comfortably used one handed. His arm has places for your pinky (bottom spike), ring (inside the loop made by the arm), and middle (place it on top of the arm in the part that looks like a button to me) fingers. Your index finger goes on top of scorpios head, under the stinger, and your thumb goes in the trigger loop. This gives you a one handed grip that allows you to shot and reload at the same time.

@@nekonekopanicnekonekopanic7335 Sentai at the time was still basic. Sure we had the edition of Mecha in Batyle fever J and the early concept of a 6th Ranger in J.A.K.Q and Maskman. But those concepts weren’t solidified till Zyuranger. Dragon Ranger was the first notable extra hero who stuck for a while at had his own toys to sell. Daizyujin was more complex than past Mecha. It’s not till Go-Busters that Sentai has a major shift, and even then that show is built to succeed in America. (Even though they tossed out all of that) Zyuranger is a good place to start mostly because of MMPR but not entirely.

After seeing Power Rangers success, always been into importing more Japanese shows like Kamen Rider, Ultraman, Beyblade, etc. Sadly, like you brought up, it is harder to introduce a shows story to another country, which is probably why Masked Rider and Ultraman Powered flopped. At least we still have the anime imports though
@chronoblue418
@chronoblue418 Жыл бұрын
But Power Rangers success is a counter to this argument though. Even taking into account that it was altered somewhat, what we were introduced to in the west, Mighty Morphing Power Rangers, wasn't the beginning of that franchises history. If I remember correctly its like the 16th in the Super Sentai series so all that cultural history and growth seemed to be largely irrelevant in selling the series to young people in the west.

I disagree with it tho , it's all about marketing, advertisements and strategy to how u present the show in the west ... Anyone remember the kamen rider dragon knight?? The way they introduced the show to western audiences is very good and also very fresh. . And b daman never took in west because of lack of advertisement and proper Marketing .. Meanwhile in some countries in Europe b daman was quite popular . Hasbro actually released season 2 of crossfire b daman it's called fire blast b daman it's only released in Europe ..

@@chronoblue418 You are correct, Zyuranger was the 16th season. Sentai as a whole didn't even start out with mechs or the spandex suits and Zyuranger was the beginning of another large change to the franchise, the introduction of a proper sixth, which was only really tried before for an episode or two in previous seasons with prototype characters like MagneWarrior and X1Mask.

I remember going crazy for these toys with my classmates and my parents buying me a B-daman. Best part is the fact they bought me the scorpion one, it was my favorite. I was so stoked they bought me such and it was expensive. The advertising were from Japan so I guess that what made the hype big from where we're from. There were only two of us in our elementary class who had such but it was the reason why we became playmates. I was sad it got lost and disassembled when a storm hit our town. Then the hype for B-daman just died from there.

Crash B-Daman was limited to East Asia and some parts of Southeast Asia (like the Philippines, who did like the line), but both Japan and America apparently share the same sentiment about the Crash line. See, back in those years, American gun laws are slowly becoming a thing, making sure there won't be anything remotely looking like a gun unless there are major modifications to the toys like firing harmless foam darts or paper bullets that break immediately when it hits its mark (basically why we never get any gun-based Transformer anymore). Crash B-Daman having gun-based parts are an instant no-no to be released wholesale in the West, and would naturally be skipped over whether the line succeeded in Japan or not.

20:27 Hi, fellow Kamen Rider fan here! Let me explain, Kamen Rider Gaim’s Suika Arms is a very large suit and it’s basically like a hulk buster. And normally for every form change in Gaim there’s a smaller set of armor, that’s in the shape of the specific fruit based off the Lockseed a rider is using, would come out of a zipper portal above the rider and land on top of their head then fold out to form the armor. But since Suika arms is so big it basically just “crushes” Gaim, but he’s fine and he just ends up inside the armor. If my memory serves me correct I do believe they only do this “crushing” gag the one time with Suika Arms, but it has been a while since I’ve seen Kamen Rider Gaim so don’t quote me on that. But one thing I do know is that Kamen Rider Gaim may look all silly and ridiculous, but trust me it gets pretty *DARK* later on in the series (not gonna get into spoilers so you just have to watch it)! And it’s actually a fan favorite for most of the Kamen Rider community (including me)!

Just finished watching this and part 1. I'd say this series could've survived if they focused on DHB as the primary mode of play. I understand that having different modes is cool, but having that one "main" purpose of playing is important in marketing this toy-line. DHB is incredibly skill-based and seeing how Crash and Crossfight evolved the systems made me just wish a new version of DHB was also released. I never had the Crossfight toys as Crash was the last time I played with B-Damans but I'm certain this franchise could've come a long way if they had decided to choose one main mode of play to easily market it globally. As we have seen, it seems every commercial made for this toy-line has different goals despite having a simple concept of "marble shooting" On a side note: Jett, you SHOULD try to look for Crash B-Damans as they were absolutely cool! The concept design of guns in a marble shooting toy is a no-brainer and I honestly wished they had DHB along with it. Plus, having the ability to shoot two different types of marbles from two different triggers was the coolest addition this series has ever seen imo.

Actually very understandable. B-daman was a hit back in my childhood, but marbleshooting was always a childhood game where I'm from, which makes it so much easier to pick up because we knew what to expect (and because its ammo was interchangeable with our traditional marbles). Like Beyblade, B-daman was based on a local tradition reinvented into something modern, which very much helped with their domestic or regional marketing because … well, Asia's got a lot of shared traditional toys and games. The marketing could simply focus on the individual gimmicks that set them apart from the traditional gameplay we knew (as the commercial you showed did). If I were the execs, I'd honestly be equally confused about importing the thing properly to the US.

Also it was all Takara Tomy because they didnt sell the Hasbro ones (thank god, i like Takara Tomy's better). And speaking of things like Kamen Rider and Ultraman, Kamen Rider was brought into the qest TWICE but sadly failed, Masked Rider, the adaptation of Kamen Rider Black RX was horendous and Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, the adaptation of Kamen Rider Ryuki was not reseved well in the west even though it was reseved amazingly in Japan, even getting a sequal Novel, so Kamen Rider is probably always going to fail, as for Ultraman I dont know.

B-Damans was the best selling toy in the Philippines. Me and my friends always compete with our B-Damans with those brick points and spinning marbles. We always bought the Japanese version and it was selling like pancakes but we also have the western version at the store but no one is buying it cause everything was made of plastic and also the marble bullet was plastic makes the fire power weak. I think why western adaptation doesn't sell well even with or without marketing because they make it even more child friendly because of its hazard, like no diecast metal or any solid part that could last long. They are switching everything that could mold or break easily and thinking that kids will buy it again if the toy is broken but they were wrong. Today, why the marble bullets change to bottle caps for recycle purpose on I think, I saw their commercial for that bottle caps version. It's for the environment they say if planning to throw the broken product including the cap bullets.

Tbh, I'm pretty sure Hasbro's interpretation of the B-Daman franchise is the reason why B-Daman didn't sell well in Western countries. Their alterations and way of marketing it is pretty odd and poorly made, even Japanese fans would find those commercials... horrifying to say the least (A walking B-Daman would forever be the clutches of my nightmares). Takara Tomy on the other hand always keeps their products on point to the original source, especially how their commercials actually shows how each B-Daman can perform differently

For crossfight, Hasbro ruined it with tthe Thunder, Lightning, and Strike naming convention. They all carried the name of the cores they used. Thunder Dracyan, is known as Accele Dracyan. As in acceleration, due to the drive strip giving the ball a faster rotation, its more effective with glass marbles. Lightning Sassord(scorpio) core is rapid fire due to the parts that hold the marble being thinner than otthers allowing it to shoot out quicker. Its hard tto explain, but if you want to, there are review videos out there that ccan cover these sorts of tthings.

You should dive into Kabuto Borg by Takara Tomy. It has been one of my favorite toyline that has never really been imported in Europe or US. But we did got Battle Crawlers in Europe and MegaLutes in Brasil. It was from arround 2003 but they relaunched it in 2023, and they look even better.

Not gonna lie I prefer the japanese version with the Crossfire thing, in Japanese it's called Crossfight B daman, naming is cooler in the japanese version, if you judge the names of the figures you'd know what they're supposed to do and it's hard to see but you'd see it if you really look at it. For example Thunder Dracyan AKA Accele Dracyan in the Japanese. The first name "Accele" came from the word "accelarate" where if you hit a target, the marble bounce back then the forward spin you see in that marble will make it accelerate forward again to hit another target, the lightning scorpio thing it is named Roll Sasword, the ring thing in the finger makes you shoot faster, or Lightning dravise where the wheels on the core be able to shoot fast, and if you start to notice after you shot your initial marbles you will be shooting faster and faster as you keep going. There's a figure named Drift Jacker where it makes curveshots(barely curve shots) In the japanese again you knew what it's supposed to do, in the US version though the names have become so generic, for power types it's called thunder, for accuracy it's called strike(baseball puns or bowling puns) and for rapid fire type lightning. I kinda blame Hasbro for it because it actually became a hit from Japan, to even south east asia and US but for Hasbro to make their versions of it that they will always mess up, let's face it hasbro tends to mess up the japanese versions of the product line, look at beyblade for example

B-Daman, to me at least, always felt like that one toy that was caught in an awkward middle ground with its overall design and functionality. For example, while the concept of shooting marbles at each other as a game has been around for a long time, it never held the same level of popular appeal as…say…racing your friends downhill on wagons and/or go-karts. Then there’s the parts system…once again, it really feels like it’s at an awkward middle ground where the parts don’t feel important enough to be marketed as performance upgrades, but they also don’t feel superficial enough to be marketed as just cosmetic upgrades. None of this is to say that a toy line based on advanced marble shooting *can’t* be made to sell well in the West - far too many toys have thoroughly disproven that argument - but for all of the reasons I mentioned (along with the ones mentioned in the video), it does mean that it’s going to have a harder time taking off and sticking in peoples’ minds for a long period of time.

I'll be honest, between the two, I chose Battle. I like the fact that it (and possibly Beyblade) was a model that you had to put together. As for the stickers, well, that was good too. You could either attach the stickers to make Dragoon, Cobalt Blade, ect., or you don't have to attach them and just stick with a generic that belongs to you and only you. The same goes for Beyblade Metal, though it was not a model you had a choice to customize them with stickers.
