This makes me sentimental. My dad, rest his soul, bought me one when I was 9, and I had a blast with it. He researched the rules, was so into it, and it made me really happy that he bought one for himself so he could battle with me. These toys were such a happy part of my childhood.

one of the things we did as kids with these was to literally try and blow out each other’s fingers. it turned into an endurance test more than anything and what we quickly found was that the cheap fake versions had faster speed in them. we did go crazy when the special marbles were introduced and pretended as if they made a difference

I remember finding what were probably bootleg sets in a strange gift shop attached to a supermarket. A supermarket which oddly enough stocked Battle B-Daman. Though I recall that gift store sold yugioh packs for like $12 Canadian if I recall, probably enough of a ripoff that I never really got into Yugioh until the end of High School.

I'm not sure how it worked in the west, but here in southeast asia, we had tons of tournament support! When I was like 7 years old I'd join the almost weekly tournaments for battle b-daman! The cool thing was entrance was completely free, and there were limited edition b-daman to be given to those who'd make it to the podium! Was such a great experience growing up with those competitions, and even taking the championship myself a couple of times! Good times

The Bakugaiden anime was made when the Bakugaiden toyline was already at its 4th iteration and year. There's an earlier version of the DHB system on the mech suits in Bakugaiden 2 (1996), hitting the target at the crotch of the mech suit would eject the pilot B-daman in a dramatic fashion. No customizable parts yet though.

I actually grew up with B-Daman being my first ever 'anime' alongside Megaman NT Warrior, so I'm glad to see it's finally getting some coverage. It was such a weird premise but I loved it all the same. Especially getting to construct the B-Daman and also customize them if you had different ones.

Haha, holy cow, one of the fuzzy memories I have of Battle B-Daman lore is how the big magic cat dude invented a new, standardized build system for the little marble shooters that allowed for increased customization, and it turns out that's exactly the toy line that the show was advertising. To get the full experience you needed the previous gen Japanese toys. Amazing.

almost every hand-me-down bin of Lego I interacted with, or bags of lego at Goodwill had either a full B-Daman or an arm of one mixed in with the random toa limbs and bricks, I remember getting one and like the naughty boy I was I took the marbles and used them in my Zamor launchers since they basically use the same launching mechanism.

I LOVED b-daman as a kid I so wish it would come back in the US. As a tip, you actually missed a few series. Battle B-Daman had a second season called Fire Spirits that as far as I know never got imported out of Japan, and between Battle and Crossfire there was actually another entire series called Crash B-Daman that was never imported, most likely because every B-Daman was designed to look like a gun (no joke, those bottle loaders were replaced with ones that looked like actual magazines, just upside down)

Actually Fire Spirits was Dubbed though they had different voice actors then Battle and stopped Dubbing During Winners which meant the lore of the Season and the truth about Aqulas was never revealed outside Japan

I was with the series at the very start of the US release, but what really deepened my interest in the toys was after seeing JP imports in a shop when on a trip in Hawaii. I got stuff like the awesome Cobalt Blaster and a bunch of accessories. I really wish the line had continued in the US. It also re-enforced why i liked stuff like the original run of Beyblade and Bdaman; the model building aspect.

I am not sure how connected the series is, but there is a similar series to B-Daman called Cap Revolution Bottleman in Japan. Each little launcher is themed after a different drink, such as cola and ramune, and shoot plastic bottle caps instead of marbles.

DHBs were my favorite thing to do back then with my neighbors. Next to Beyblade, this is one of the most interesting and fun toy-line I've ever come across as a kid. Super B-Daman transition from bomberman being real characters to kid battling with toys make sense in the context that the anime was an adaptation from a manga published in Coro Coro Comics, a magazine for children where most of the mangas are tie ins for toys and videos games like Dash! 11:12 GhoulKuso. That aside I used to have 1 Battble B-Daman as a kid. A bunch of mates had 1 or more as well and they were just fun to mess around with. A couple of years ago I found a few online listings for random B-Daman stuff on the cheap and I managed to rake up a small collection of both DHB and Crossfire. Even bought a few brand new Crossfire's from Japan which I thought looked neat. They're just fun to fiddle with and are very cleverly designed.

I was that boy who was horrified by the sprus (funny as today model kits are probably my biggest money sink). I remember being both shocked and confused by how in the anime (as far as I know) the figures were pretty much just bb guns shaped like robots rather than actual robots. Even today I find it to be a strange creative decision, why didn't they make the small robots be their own characters running around and causing mischief? Never would have guessed the series was connected to Bomberman though.

I have 2 big Ziplock bags full of B-Daman parts and marbles. I had the playset with the puck and targets. I watched the anime on YTV. I even had the B-Daman video game for the Game Boy Advance. Needless to say, I was a big fan of B-Daman growing up.

I really wish these made a proper comeback. I think with the proper promotion they could've been as big as Beyblade or Bakugan for sure. The actual molds of the toys themselves are really well done and each one is so unique looking. The actual game itself, specifically the direct hit battle thing, is really simple but really fun for anyone to play.

I have vague memories of the second line and playing with a few as a kid (though, being a dumb kid I never really got the organized game aspect)! Anyway I saw Medabots briefly in there. B-Daman was one of my most beloved toys back when i was young, i only had one launcher and the bottle loader, but i spent days and nights shooting the 20-30 beads into a tablecloth with no reason, and for me, the best part, was to build the toy by myself, i mean, when i was a kid, all the toys (except for LEGO) they came pre built, just break open the box and that was it, go and play. B-Daman, added two of the functions i was craving so bad: The pew-pew and the DiY, so this little guy (a White knight with wings) pushed all the buttons at the same time. I used it until it broke due to continuous play

There was one time in a mall where they held a B daman... event(?) where you could compete with others with your B daman. It was fun... If I brought mine. That was the last time they held that event

I dont know if anyone did this, but i used to modify my battle Bdaman I put a piece of paper on the side of the marble holder hence the increased tension which equals to much stronger shooter so sometimes the triangle thing will be destroyed, just like the good old days of a full metal beyblade our Bdaman becomes a weapon.

Battle B-Daman caught on pretty well here in Southern Ontario when the show first aired and stuck around for a while, I remember a lot of kids had at least one. We'd bring them with us for recess and after school programs and just make little games to play with them, the default being "just try to hit each other's bdaman with marbles". That's what characters did most often in the show after all. Or we'd set up little arenas and challenges using whatever stuff was lying around. Rocks, pencils, erasers, etc. Stuff like "try to hit these specific things", etc. We'd make our own fun with them. I think B-Daman lasted as long as it did because of it's simplicity. Keep in mind the anime aired here in Canada not long after Beyblade. With beyblades, any large bowl or any pit in the ground could become a battleground. Meanwhile with bdaman, all you need is the toy itself, some marbles (which everyone had) and a tabletop. And if you or someone you knew had the tournament set, great. That's even more stuff you can use.

I will never forget my last b-dman. It had a function in where I kid you not. You can load in a shotgun like shell which held 2 marbles and allowed you to launch both at once, with the shell needing to be ejected after use. Again. A shotgun like b-dman, where you used shells that needed to be ejected after use.

We used to mod them by jamming paper clips on the outside of the holder or add super glue. it was really hard to shoot them then. but we actually got anime velocity. it was dope. bruised and broken some fingers, exploded some b-daman but it was a hoot!

8:50 theres some scuffed mod that you can actually do with this to fire the marbles as twice as hard, by Cutting two pieces from the Sprues to an "L" shape, putting them in the holes of the Hold parts, and pushing those Hold parts forwards as it tightens the entrance, those two sprue bits holding the parts from popping out altogether, so essentially you now have pre-squeezed b-daman that can fire a satisfyingly strong shots.

It's kind of sad knowing B-daman never got the success it needed to continue on, especially because even Takara seemed to try to pivot it as a sister series to Beyblade with the WBBA and WBMA parallels. I honestly like B-daman a lot more as a concept because you can directly feel the impact of your customizations in your hands, and that you have full control over your launcher. I do think your assessment of a lack of clear play pattern is probably a large influence on the series' lack of success though. Especially with crossfire, as they did away with DHB, with the closest standard game mode being Break Bomber maybe. Also as people are mentioning Bottleman, I still kind of prefer B-daman. The caps are just too unwieldy and make things like magazines even bigger and clunkier. The early reports of them also cracking from regular use is also rather condemning.

I remember the local toy store here hosting a bdaman battle event just before it went out of trend. Also I realized that I've played bomberman as a kid and had those marble bdaman toys too, so little did I know that I was unintentionally following this franchise since its beginnings.

B-da-man's are basically just Robot Marble Guns. Used to play a lot with my lil sis with them when I was little (or atleast, some chinese knock offs of B-daman). Doe instead of only shooting at each other's robot gun, we made this game where we took these plastic soldier figures of different colors which were placed as armies the opposing player had to shoot down. It was fun.

Bit of Bomberman lore. Bombermen are actually robotic lifeforms with screen faces. So the Bakugaiden cast aren't flesh and blood.

@@JettKuso The franchise goes some wild places. Inculding a crossover with Wario on the Gameboy, to being a playable character in the shoot 'em up "Star Parodier", to even having a version of Pyramid Head and Solid Snake appear as guest characters in Super Bomberman R. Sadly the franchise doesn't have many toys that I know of though so not the best fit for your channel, but I'd still recommend researching the it if you have time to wonder down a wacky rabbit hole.
