HOW NOT TO SAIL | Things don't go to plan sailing to South Stradbroke Island

Time for another road trip with Lady Emma, our Ultimate 18 trailer sailer. This time we're starting off at Jacobs Well, about half way between the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
Our destination for this video is South Stradbroke Island but the weather deteriorated before we could even get the boat in the water. Blowing a solid 20 knots for days, we jumped at the opportunity the moment the wind dropped. Lets see if we made the right decision.
Get out there and travel Australia, it's amazing.

At the start it looked like the girls were taking over the boat, then you caught the fish, showed who is the hunter and who is the catheters. Rach seemed suprised you caught something, lol. Making them walk on the casurina nuts the next day was a bit rough. I hope that is not a spoiler alert for other viuers.

I was surprised to catch a fish too. Fishing isn't one of my strongest skills 🤣. The casuarina nuts was a bit unfortunate and I felt bad I hadn't anticipated their presence.

We left our options open depending on weather but somewhere in Moreton Bay. How has your trailer rebuild worked out?

@@VentureOffroadAustralia4x4 hope the weather is on your side. Our favourite spot is the big sand hills at Moreton but depends which way the wind is blowing. Trailer is great now thanks. Was lots of work but 100% improvement

Is your ts a boomerang 20 ? And if so did the bulb at the bottom of the swing keel slow the boat down at all when not fully down ?

Hi, our boat is an Ultimate 18. It does have a bulb on the bottom of the swing keel and I haven't noticed it slow the boat down. My understanding is that having the keel down a little when motoring helps with steering. Hope that helps.

@@VentureOffroadAustralia4x4 veah my sun has a boomerang 20 and it's like trying to move around in a ball on the water without the keel down , and picks up momentum. Enjoy your video's , cheers for the reply.

Swing keel b20s are as smooth as when the keel is up , no side to side or directional stability , and the rolling effect just picks up momentum with people flying in all directions to steady it back down , it was very unpleasant from what I have been told . I'm going to look into filling in above the bulb so too give amore hydrofoil shape at all positions of the keel so as to not act as a sea anchor . The designer of the Ultimate 18 thought it through before making its keel . B20s swing keel was an after thought by I don't no who ? Handles like a tadpole in a mud puddle LOL . Thanks again cheers
