Home, commute, work, commute, small super market and back home. They replayed that routine several times to indicate that he is completely a hermit. He hasn't seen the news in a long time in this version of the story.

@@raganmaxwell4253 But Kenobi in Ep 4 is also aware of things on Tatooine (and I'm not trying to attack you, I just disagree with the writers' choice. And you're probably right, in that I could've been more clear). Kenobi knows WHERE to find a pilot (and not just the city, he knows the EXACT cantina to go to), he knows what it'll be like there ("You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy"), and he's not AT ALL uncomfortable there like Luke is (knows he can cut off a man's arm WITH A LIGHTSABER and leave it there and no one will care). All these things suggest familiarity, that Kenobi SHOULDN'T just be going from work to home and back, that he's spent time on the planet even if he MOSTLY keeps to himself (one can be in public and still keep to oneself). One would also imagine that if Kenobi is going to protect Luke, he needs to know what's going on on the planet and to a certain extent what's going on in the galaxy. That's my issue with the writers' choice.
@raganmaxwell42532 жыл бұрын
@@theroyalmediator2658 all that adds up perfectly, but this is still taking place early in Kenobi's time spent on the task of protecting Luke. It makes sense that some time would pass while he remains a completely broken man and gives the show some time to flesh out a story the specifically explains Kenobi coming into his own again and restoring his faith in himself and the galaxy's future. They aim to make another season, so it only makes sense that they would begin the story from developmental beginnings in his time on Tatooine. There's a lot of it that is certainly off-putting, but for the most part, I feel like they've done a good job of towing the fine line that is what's possible canon in the 19 year gap between films.

There's only 19 years between ROTS and ANH and this story wants us to believe Obi-Wan's been moping for MORE than half that time, and I just don't buy that based on what we saw directly before and directly after this period and what we've seen of Kenobi in general.

I said that exact thing in the beginning, when I saw the very 1st episode of Kenobi. It's nearly impossible for a person to go 10 years and not know who the shot-callers are. Vader is the most powerful person in the galaxy under Emperor Palpatine. How can Obi-Wan go 10 WHOLE YEARS without hearing the name Darth Vader??? And it's not like Tatooine is a secluded planet. 9-year old Anakin was telling Qui-Gon a lot about the galaxy outside of Tatooine, so was 19-year old Luke describing newsworthy events beyond the planet without ever leaving; both of them were able to speak because of all the pilots passing through from all over the galaxy. How believable is it that the kids know more about the galaxy than a 50-year old man? That's very unlikely. And willful ignorance of that kind of info kinda defeats the purpose of his assignment of overseeing Luke's success in growing up to become the Jedi Order's new hope. Ben had just one job!

He has an isolated dead end job and a daily routine job-home-spying Luke to also avoid being recognized, since he was notorious as a Jedi master and war hero. The show uses Reva more like an example of how Inquisitors came to be and their motivations. She is so far, more of a tool and a plot device than anything else. If the show would have been like in the books, I could not see the utility of the Inquisitors.

I agree with everything you said. The only problem I have is how Reva telling obi wan that anakin is alive just gave them an automatic connection. As if their connection had been severed and simply gaining the knowledge that anakin had lived was enough to reconnect it? I mean maybe?! Idk. Maybe learning that information was too much for obi wan to suppress the emotions any longer and his grief was so immense that it was enough to ignite a spark between them again. If that’s the case, then I totally get it. But it is still a bit underwhelming that Reva is the one to tell obi wan. I feel like if yoda knew anakin was the one who betrayed the Jedi (without even looking at the recordings of the temple) then he could have also known that anakin survived Mustafar. That also is a missed opportunity for a training session from yoda in force communication. I still like the show either way

Makes sense, but I'm still a fan of how they did it. It shows Obi Wans despair, depression, he failed himself, he failed and lost his brother, he was responsible for jedi and his friends getting killed. Living in the pain daily, knowing that you failed someone makes it so relatable and human. The process of forgiving oneself is the hardest thing someone has to do.

I wouldn't be surprised if by the last episode of Kenobi that Vader learns of Luke. I think, based on what Disney has been doing with the sequel trilogy, they're rewriting cannon as they see fit. Even if it contradicts their own cannon! For example, Din Jarin aka The Mandalorian had no knowledge of Jedi on the same planet that in Disney's own cannon, years earlier, the Inquisitors showed up cutting folks hands off and chasing Jedi. Lol did you watch the first episode? What in Obi-WAN’s routine on Tatooine would remotely give the implication that he would know anything about Vader? He lives in a cave in the middle of the desert, he rides into town just to take a transport out to where he works, he clearly is shown keeping to himself and not interacting with people, and he’s clearly been cut off from the Force…he doesn’t even have his lightsaber anywhere near him. Dude is in complete isolation. He couldn’t even sense the Jedi on the planet. How he found out about Vader was just fine.

I think you made some good points. I am working on several Star Wars novels myself and I have spent a lot of time actually reading many of the old & new novels, watching the cartoons, researching the video game characters as well as the some of the comic book stuff, and I think you may be correct that they may have been a little lazy and just wanted to establish the reason for Reva's behavior. I also suspect that they picked ten years to make Leia a better age for this adventure. They needed a big reason for Obi-wan to abandon his post. Leia seems like the most reasonable reason. It is hard to navigate through all the complexities of the Star Wars Universe....and much to my dismay many of the new novels and obviously the Sequel writers didn't even bother. It's really frustrating when I have gone through so much effort and these people have not. Why? They have teams of people that can assist in the research. I am doing this by myself. I also look at the situation that the people who love Star Wars within Lucasfilm are dealing with. A certain person in charge obviously does not really like Star Wars and has an agenda against George Lucas. This is just my observation from the outside. My literary agent died before he could figure out what on earth is going on in the halls of Lucasfilm. I have new allies but I am not holding my breath. I really appreciate your thoughtful intelligent observations about what is going on. I do think some things could have been better, but.....I suspect the people trying to put out good thoughtful content are constantly under siege. A stressful situation. It's hard to be creative when someone is constantly poking you with a stick.

Personally, I do think that the way it was announced in the show is kinda weird But beside that, him not hearing about it for ten years could be possible under specific condition The way they seems to be portrayed him in the show, he really isolated himself as much as possible, and avoid any contact not necessary, which could also include not reading the news on the Holonet, because he wouldn't know about what's happening in the Empire, being disappointed in what happened and just wanting to leave that life, that Jedi and Republic life, behind His shock and silence at the announcement make sense to me, as he seems to kinda blame himself for what happened to the galaxy (which would tie with the fact that he avoid any news, he feel guilty ) The way Ewan played it was really well done

I actually think the concept of how he finds out is better in the series than in the book. I like the idea of a youngling seeing vader in the temple, and is able to escape and tell the story. If anything it makes alot of sense considering that he went around in there with his face exposed, and everybody in there knows who anakin is. I dont like the idea of him finding out in some random cantina. I agree that 10 years seems like a bit too much, and it feels like the only reason for the big time jump is to be able to have the reva and the younglings be old enough to be in the story.

I totally agree with this and frustrated at the writing relative Obi-wan and him not knowing about Vader being alive for 10+ years is insane. However , I would also add a question that I havnt heard discussed much.... "HOW does Reva know Vader is Anikin?" She looks like she is 10-12ish in the clip when Order 66 happens. They make it apparent that she knew Anikin before Order 66, though dont show it. So its kinda assumed. However, to her Anikin is 'Jedi Anikin' and during Order 66... she is confused and scared and barely survives and believes he was going to help the younglings and herself - But didnt! That is "Jedi Anikin' attacked her. NOT the Anikin/Vader at the end of Epi III. Further, at this point she knows nothing of him turning to the dark-side or his new name - Vader and of course his physical changes into Vader. She should also a scared little girl and in fear for her life. Not knowing where to turn. Likely, hiding in the underbelly of Coruscant would make the most sense in fear for her life/scraping to survive. Think Ashoka on the run before her trial in the Clone wars. Granted we are told she was picked up in the gutter - so that is kinda c/w with being un the underbelly of Coruscant. However, none of that explains how she knows of the Vader-Anikin link. That WOULD be a State secret only few ppls would know - Not her. She is such a poorly written character. Ugg

No fault on the actress, she did great, but a character like Reva needs a longer show where we can take the time to explore a character this complex and not just race through her development.

@miragewizard2 жыл бұрын
This is so much better of an explanation of how Obi-Wan found out about Vader! I agree - the way the Obi-Wan show wrote that was a bit less effective in the way that they tried to get a two for one - add legitimacy to Reva while getting an emotional response from Obi-Wan. In the process, the Obi-Wan writers made us think that Reva is this emotionless power-hungry bad gal who wants to torture Obi-Wan as much as capture or take him down. But since the 5th episode is out, we know that this perception of Reva is not consistent with what she became: a backstabber to Vader after Obi-Wan saw through her confusion and used it to offer Reva some wisdom of his own. I believe that Obi-Wan's true intention with Reva in Episode 5 was to get her to turn back to the Light irrevocably, to see the error of her ways and to make clear what she may have understood as if through a mirror darkly, but now brought fully into the Light. But Reva, in her own haste and confusion, did not understand and succumbed to a whirlwind of confusion, still having the Light veiled to her to the point where she tried to take Vader down on her own (this was the critical climax of her life long confusion that Obi-Wan was able to pinpoint but not lead her out of successfully), and she made a wrong choice, but a choice that she was at peace with (death), which was preferable to a life of tormenting confusion between what really happened at the Jedi Temple during Order 66 and how she must come to terms with and accept the truth, which she has been avoiding ever since, and the veil of the dark side remained over her. But the Reva character aside, I would have greatly enjoyed this better explanation in the book that focused more on Obi-Wan's reaction (one character), than having Obi-Wan's reaction play into the growth or perception of another character (Reva).

I'm 50/50. In one hand, I don't feel like just an announcement in a regular old cantina would be a interesting way for him to find out. I mean, it is organic, but it's kind of underwhelming. At least with Reva it was someone more important telling him that he's alive, but maybe if it was the Grand Inquisitor, people would have liked it better, but I digress. I do think it should have been done in a more dramatic situation, but I do agree that, especially after 10 years, he would have probably heard it earlier you know?

It feels like Disney’s way of handling Vader’s reveal in multiple stories is very bizarre. Obi-Wan and the main characters from rebels have never heard about Darth Vader for over a decade? It makes more sense that Vader would build up more of a reputation in the span of 10 years and up. Yeah sure Vader was part of black ops teams but still overtime his presence would be known. So yeah it’s cool that Vader has a bit of a mysterious presence at times but Disney isn’t handling it well. It would make more sense if Vader was mysterious for the first two or three years.

Disney makes the most money when it appeals to the casual fan, not someone like SWT who has read every piece of literature written about Star Wars. Having such massive knowledge of the EU will definitely ruin most new content, because it's not what you are used to, as well as you have your own expectations as how things should play out.
