What Qui-Gon Jinn Thought of Anakin Becoming Vader (Tells Obi-Wan Kenobi)

In Obi-Wan Kenobi's life, two people were at the pinnacle of importance to him, Anakin and of course his Jedi Master, Qui-Gon Jinn.
In the book Dark Lord the Rise of Darth Vader, we get to learn about Qui-Gon giving his thoughts to Obi-Wan Kenobi regarding Anakin Skywalker turning to the dark side and becoming Darth Vader.
I hope we get something like this in the obi-wan kenobi show on disney plus.
I think it'd be amazing to see Liam Neeson return to play Qui-Gon Jinn, once again since the phantom menace.

Yeah the whole reason that obi was was willing to sacrifice himself to vader i am sure was because of qui gon teaching him how to be one with the force and transcend death so that he could become a force ghost with yoda and anakin

I think they should have had him take the Knight trials of the Spirit to get it - Anakin got a battlefield promotion to Knight, and should have had at least a chance at Master - the issue seemed to be his self-discipline which he should have been allowed to prove. Outright refusing him with no recourse just pushed him toward the Dark Side.

I read Dark Lord years ago. Very compelling book on Vader's early years in the Empire and the epilogue you're reading was really well written by James Luceno. Anakin is the only reason Vader even exists. And like you said, he was never completely gone and only serves the Emperor as Vader because he believed he lost everything else. But right about when Empire Strikes Back happens, he finds out that not everything that he left behind was lost. His son was alive and that was right about when Vader started to disappear and Anakin really made his return in Return of the Jedi.

And before Disney Star Wars, there was little reason to believe otherwise. If you instead paint them as human like beings and some indigenous tribe that one wants to sympathise with to a certain degree, that changes everything! So I was simply making a joke, referrin to what the Star Wars characters themselves say, which is pretty messed up, if Sand People are empathetic and feeling beings. But also it was intended to trigger and remind that it is not a 'given' that Sand People are just that! Many fans nowadays will just claim it as that and thereby paint a really different picture of our beloved Star Wars characters, which was quite possibly not intended by George, and which makes them far lass likeable. And no, even if the Sand People are just like some "creatures" or smarter "animals" that wouldn't make their slaughter justified or ethical. And to your comment: I am not sure about that, as I am no psychologist. According to your definition, millions of soldiers in the last as well as this century are psychopaths. Most wars, if not all wars begin by dehumanizing the "other". Many soldiers will 'have' to tell themselves that lie, in order to be able to commit atrocities like killing another human being. But yeah, maybe you are right regardles.

Qui Gon is one of the most underrated Jedi, I think if he were to live Anakin wouldn't have turned he would grow up to be the wise powerful Jedi Qui Gon was, who was not afraid to defy the council, but still very disciplined with whatever he was doing.

Qui-Gon was the father figure Anakin needed. Anakin never had a father, so Qui-Gon was a blessing for Anakin. When Obi-Wan trained Anakin he was more of an older brother to him. Their bond was strong and these two have become almost inseparable, but being raised by your older brother will lead to a Anakin being more resentful towards Obi-Wan as is the sibling dynamic. Sibling fight a lot, while with Father figures would be respected and even feared a little more than your brother. Obi-Wan really saw Anakin as an equal. While that seems positive, raising a child, which is essentially what Obi-Wan had to do, because who else was gonna do it the other jedi were nowhere suited to do that. Anyways back to the point raising a child as a father figure means that you are not necessarily equals, as parents often use the i have more years on this earth so i know better excuse. Essentially Obi-Wan’s love for Anakin was ultimately his failure. That love was very much a positive thing for both of them for a long time, but Obi-Wan loved Anakin like a brother and a friend, when he should have been a father to Anakin. He was too immature for his own good, which made Anakin turn against his master.

I always thought Qui-Gon would appear to Vader periodically to try and guide him back to the light. Whether full ghost form or voice only, he would have still had that fatherly encouragement. "This isn't what I taught you, Anakin. You ARE the chosen one. You will bring balance."

But the Jedi also needed balance so maybe Qui-Gon knew what had to be done unfortunately for there to be actual balance. If you see RoTJ Luke is the Last of the Jedi…not a bunch of Jedi using the force which then gives Luke all that strength as no others are using it’s power. I think that’s true balance.

Yes, Vader always respected Qui-gon as the only Jedi, not knowing that Anakin was still alive inside him, which continued to treat Yoda and Kenobi well, despite the fact that they did not help him in time not to fall for Palpatine's tricks. And become the same Jedi as his first teacher, who was more suitable for the role of the boy's father. Qui-Gon would not blame Anakin and realized that he needed to train him himself, choose a more appropriate training method, save his mother, help deal with the visions. So that it would not be necessary to obtain the title of master to access the secret section of the archive to find another way to save Padme without resorting to the false help of Sidious.

Qui Gonn appearing in episode 6 will only be a sentence at the end of the episode to symbolise the end of Kenobi’s training. Hopefully we get more in season 2 though.

Always such good content and I love listening to theories and stories from the Star Wars universe. Personally, I’d prefer just dialog from Qui-Gon in the Kenobi show. I’d like to see it in a way that you just described. Kenobi being beaten down, and almost crushed by his own thoughts and doubts, but then Qui-Gon speaking to him for reassurance and it gives Kenobi this renewed hope to continue looking after Luke and to continue his “mission” so to speak

Obi-wan’s strength was that he bested Vader twice, showed mercy both times, and even when he faced him on the Death Star. Obi-wan told him, “you can’t win Darth, if you strike me down I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine…” Teasing Darth’s shortcomings at gaining power. As if saying, “even now your choices are infinitely foolish, and you haven’t a clue just how much.

It's just that Obi-Wan didn't know then that Vader really needed to be left alive, and Kenobi's instinct telling him not to kill Anakin was the right one, as was the choice to leave everything to the discretion of the Force. Obi-Wan did not believe that his friend could still be brought back to the bright side. Kenobi was very glad and pleasantly surprised when Anakin really returned at the same time, fulfilling the prophecy, proving that Qui Gon was right..

Yoda going through the training with the Wills in the clone wars was fascinating. It would be cool to get some answers on where qui-gon left off on his training. The wills tell Yoda after his completion, that “Qui-Gon will guide you the rest of the way.” Maybe once Yoda learns, he can finish Qui-Gon’s training.

I pictured it as Obi Wan, having been briefly KOd or stunned, comes round and we see rocks all around him … a white/blue hem of light illuminating his face - he looks up to see Qui Gon as a force ghost shielding him and using the force to hold back the boulders from crushing him - Obi Wan utters “Master” to which Qui Gon replies “hello there” (just kidding although kinda cool lol) no something like what we see him say “took you long enough” And then he says something encouraging - then we get the flashbacks of the kids to then have it cut back to obi wan holding the boulders and then escaping in the same way! I just feel like that was an awesome way to have done it but it was amazing still I mean you could have had Qui Gon go - I don’t know something like- “the children … promise me you’ll protect them” - Obi Wan says “🤬 you look how that worked out last time”

That's exactly right. I've always said that Vader could've either led the Empire, or spent the rest of his life running from it. He chose the former because what else could he have done? I also love the split personality idea for Vader and Anakin. It's also a lot like demonic possession. Vader was a demon possessing what was left of Anakin's body. This was another great video, man!
