I’m 42 and started my periods when I was 9...so other than when I was pregnant and breastfeeding I’ve had regular periods for approximately 26 years (so a lot of sanitary products used). I’ve started using a cup as of today and so far, so good and I’m really impressed with the product and would definitely recommend to anyone who was thinking of making the switch!

I just finished my first period with a cup. I did all the research and believed the "you don't bleed as much as you think you do, you're fine to go 12 hours" stuff. Nooooooope! I massively overflowed my large Lena cup in 8 hours: through the back up pad, through the undies, through the pants, and onto my legs and the seat. Time to buy the Super Jennie...

Oh man, unfortunately some are graced with a truly heavy flow. When you first try a cup it's definitely important to check a bit more frequently so you can learn your body's rhythm. Hope your next period is better 🤞

Menstrual cups are amazing! My first period using one and I'm NEVER going back to tampons! =D I don't know if anyone else is like this but for me I know it's time to dump the cup when the cup feels 'heavy" inside my body. Like when a tampon is full it will feel heavy in the body, that's how I know it's time to change mine~

Nice to know I’m a part of that small percentage that bleeds A LOT. This is my first day using it, I got the size 2 Diva cup and In 4 hours it was full on my second day of my cycle, It was so cool to see collected that way! But again, about 3 hours later inside to change another almost as full cup. I always thought I had heavy bleeding but this is a great way to see and know just how much I do.

Emily Meredith is PCOS the ovarian disease? When you get super painful cysts that can rupture? I have that in my right ovary. I take birth control pills and as long as I take them, my pain and cysts all go away. I’ve noticed the cups helped a lot with mine as well. I really wonder if the dangerous chemicals that are inside the pad and especially tampon materials might be a huge cause of this in many women? My very first period on the cup, I began noticing a much better, less painful change! It was great. Less cramping too! If cups don’t help yours- if it’s the same thing? Maybe regular birth control pills might help you. There’s different causes of ovarian cysts though and everyone’s body reacts differently. Maybe a doctor/OBGYN could help you with pills or something. If you want to have kids, you can still usually control the cysts by staying on the pill for three months at a time, then go a month without the pill and try to have kids during that month. It can sometimes take the cysts one to four months to return and bother you again when you do three month pill cycles like that. That’s what I have to do. I wish you the best of good health. That don’t sound like fun at all!👍

fun trick: take your cup, take a new tampon, fill the cup with water and dip the tampon into it. it will give you a feeling for how much your cup can absorbe compared to your usual tampons. (yes, a tiny bit wasteful. but worth the information, especially if you have trouble removing your cup without spilling most of the contents)

I definitely have a heavy flow, but I found that a small cup fit and feels better, but on days 2 and 3 I do have to change it out every 2 hours, but its no big deal to have the perfect leak free comfort of a cup! Yeah... I have the Lena cup (got the 2 pack with both sizes). I was wearing the smaller one on one of my heavy days because I wasn't quite sure how heavy I really am and I felt like the smaller one would be more comfortable since I'm generally more sensitive on my heavier days. I only had like 2 classes that day so I thought it would be fine if I checked as soon as I got back to my room. Wrong. Towards the end of the second class I could feel it pop and start to leak. Whatever popping happened really hurt too. Now that would only be about 3 hours or so of having it in so I assumed I had it in wrong it shifted. Thank goodness I was also wearing a pad, because while I was done with classes I still had to get lunch and stuff so it was closer to the 4 or 5 hour mark by the time I could get it out. Expecting a blood bath, I just decided to deal with removal in the shower. Surprisingly, the pad wasn't overflowing. When I actually got the cup out, it was around 4/5 or so full with a lot following behind the cup that had squeezed out. Awesome... Guess I'll be sizing up in the future...

I've been using the cup for 3 cycles now and I always overflow on the second day. I have to empty it every 2 to 3 hours. I also discovered I have a very low cervix which dips into the cup. So I think my flow is not that heavy but my cup's capacity is hugely reduced due to my lowered cervix. I wanted to use the cup so I bought one, the most readily available in my country, the Organicup, but I don't think it's compatible with my cervix. It's hard to purchase another one though, so I'm just going to have to work around it by just emptying the cup more often on the second day.

Everyone always says it holds more but I took my diva cup (15ml) filled it with water and just dipped my super plus tampon in it and it took all the water but a very small corner was left, then I bought a cup that advertises 30ml and pours water from the diva cup (15ml) to that cup (30ml) and it filled it up, so they hold the same amount...eother the 15 is really a 30 or the 30 is really a 15. so 2-3 times more that literally every cup advertises is false and the sizes seem to be off as well, I'm going to try this with one more brand for better conclusions.

Tampons take away your body moisture and has added chemicals so it dries you out more. That's why cups last longer because it doesn't soak everything from you, it just takes your blood. I suggest you ACTUALLY use a cup and compare it to the tampon use and use both correctly to see the results.

Quick heads up for those who overflowed on their first day of using a cup.... You put it wrong... I know because, I leaked at my first 2 hours. The second month I've used cups, I didn't even overflow, to the point that I even forget I have a period and I've already accidentally left it on for a day but I don't suggest you to do so. It can last about 8-12 hours, everything below it is quite unhealthy. It means you're losing to much blood and I suggest you to go see a doctor if it continues to do so even if you have placed and felt it with your fingers on the edges right.

I just purchased my first cup. My period starts in a few days so today I boiled the cup & tried to put it in so I'm not completely clueless when my period arrives. I had no troubles putting it in & it opened straight away (at least I think guess we'll find out soon). Felt almost nothing once it was in, except for the stem that I need to trim. HOWEVER getting it out was kind of a nightmare. Guess I just couldn't properly break the suction? I hope I'll find my way to do it correctly as I really want it to work.

If you haven't done this yet try "bearing down" to get the cup lower before you pinch the base to break the seal. If you tried breaking the seal while it was higher inside that might have been less successful than when it's lower and easier to reach.

Nicole X I went through the same thing you went through. I got mine like a week before my period even started and I started to put it in so I’ll be used to it. At first I used the c method and put it in laying down in my bed, not the best but it worked. Then after a couple of days, I was did the punch down method, put lube around and in my entrance and sometimes around the base but I don’t really like that bc it’s like super slippery. I also tried on the toilet and that works better than laying down. I put a towel down and squat and then push it out by moving muscles likeI’m pooping, gross but it works. You don’t have to squat, that’s just one way. Another way is to be on the toilet or shower and then move your muscles again and push it out like you’re pooping and then started pulling it. When it comes to removal started to tug and then remove it upwards and then removing down. That works the best for me and it doesn’t hurt when I do it like that. Ive never been so excited for my period after having it for so long lol. I hope it doesn’t leak!

Capacity needs can be tricky because the cup itself needs to also work for your body in terms of fit and size/comfort. With a period this heavy you may want to consider the Merula XL which holds up to 50 ml (largest capacity of any cup). There are other larger capacity cups like the Super Jennie and the Yuuki... take our quiz (putacupinit.com/quiz) or reference our sortable chart to explore cup options (putacupinit.com/chart)

If your cervix is sitting in your cup - which mine likes to do, too - you might try a cup that’s a bit wider to give more capacity. I’d have a look at our chart and see what is similar enough to the features you find comfortable (if you like the length you can stick with that) and with a little larger diameter.

After getting on birth control my period became SO light. Pre birth control my period would last like up to 6 days, with the first two days being the worst (still an average flow). But now my period lasts 2,5 - 3 days. Luckily. But I know how much women struggle with intense periods. So I am not taking this for granted, however my flow got so light, that on the first (and heaviest) day I don't even bleed though the smallest size tampon. And this is why I wanted to switch to the cup. Because as great as a light flow is, tampons would now absorb more of my body fluids than blood and it got so dry in there, that I'd have to deal with a (very painful btw) dryness for up to a week after my period.

Nice! I really don't think I could use one pad for my entire cycle but I could probably use just one menstrual cup. I have the OrganiCup mini and on my heavy day, it was only filled a bit less than halfway after 10 hours.

I'm doing research on these cup things. I've recently been considering sustainable period products and have avoided thinking about cups. However, I think a cup may be just what I need to try. I'm not keen on the idea of washing menstrual underwear or reusable pads. I'd rather minimize the maintenance and maximize safety and having less worry.

I do both. Pads are easier to use but cups are easier to wash lol. Once you have a routine for pads though, they don’t take too much effort. Cups seem to increase cramping for me unfortunately so some days I just can’t bear the thought of using one. Good luck on your journey! P. S. If you do decide to try pads, I would absolutely recommend Homestead Emporium! I know everyone is different but I can’t help but give the advice I wish someone would have given me when starting. It would have saved me LOADS of money. They’re one of the most expensive but the ones I bought first hardly ever get used now. I have about 25-30 from them and slowly replaced almost my entire “stash” with them 😂

Yes, From what Menstrual Cups Kenya said "I have used a cup with an IUD. Just check the strings are cu6 short and always break the seal when removing." Put a cup in it also said make sure to check your cup's seal and break the seal (pinch hard/firmly) when removing your cup.

My cords are stil fine and I have never had the feeling is was pulling anything other than the cup out. But make sure you unseal the cup and not just yak it out.

I looked this video up because I filled my cup in about 2 hours and it was already leaking... yeah... always knew I was a heavy bleeder, but now I've got the proof. I was hoping this would be a good option for at work since we're getting treated like middle schoolers having to check in with our supervisor to go to the restroom, so I was hoping to not have to change as often, but should have known better. I go through the extra heavy overnight pads in usually about 2-4 hours. Longest I ever let them go is 6 hours while i sleep... its extremely inconvenient.

Started using a period cup about a year ago, so tips if you wanna use one too: - Smaller cup is less feel-able but you gotta empty it more often of course - Make it less feel-able by cutting the bottom thingy off. I did that to mine and it's still easy to put in. - Taking it out is the main problem if you're like me and got a medium or large cup, because when I take it out, it hurts my Bartholin's gland (lining between inner lips) really bad

Okay ladies, so I bought my first diva cup and I was excited about finally switching over for good from years of pad use. I’m one of those girls that has a ridiculously heavy flow along with ridiculously painful cramps...pads have been the only thing that has worked for me when it comes to lady products, but lately I’ve had to change them so often, especially out in public, that I’m beginning to loath it everytime. Anyway, I tried my diva cup 3 times today and ended up hurting my self...when I finally got it to open, I started to leak bc it had moved out of place...so I got very annoyed and just went back to pads...with that being said, considering I have a heavy flow, would a cup even be useful at night time on my heavy days? I just don’t see the point of a cup of I still have to use a pad at night as back up considering that most women say they have to take the cup out after 2/3 hours.....idk...I feel like I’m just doomed forever with pads...help!

I would suggest getting a bigger sized cup or trying a different brand that is more comfortable and fitting. I always thought I had a heavy period. Tampons made me cramp more and I loss sooooo much sleep setting alarms to change them. Pads stick to me and make me feel icky. I noticed that I don’t bleed as much as I thought when I started using my diva cup. I love the idea of not having to dispose of them or change it so often. These last 2 days were the first days that I’ve only used my diva cup and no pads or tampons. Are you making sure that the seal is in place after you insert? That was my mistake when I wore it for the first few times. It definitely takes some getting used to. I would also suggest THINX Underwear. They’re made for free flowing on your period but I’m suggesting them for you since you stated that you use pads for back up. I would highly suggest using a pad or THINX Underwear while you’re getting used to the cup just in case of an accident. And make sure that you take the cup out every 4-6 hours while you’re getting used to wearing the cup so you can understand your flow more intimately. I’ve slept with my diva cup and while I’m not having a heavy flow i can say that it’s comfortable, and I can sleep through the night with it. I hope this helps and that you find something that works for you!

I heard people say that a cup can become inverted inside. How do you fix that? I heard there are a couple that almost caused ppl to become infertile. This scared me so I avoided that cup in particular even though it assures no leaks. But overall I heard there is some inverting and might need a gynecologist to remove it. Any help with this topic?
@PutACupInIt
@PutACupInIt 6 жыл бұрын
The cup can move while being worn for a small percentage of people... it has happened where it has flipped. Not a common occurrence but a more bullet shaped cup versus one that is more round will usually prevent that from happening. If it does flip you can still remove it yourself. No idea where you found information about cups being linked to infertility... that is not something I have EVER heard and I can't imagine how there would be any connection.
