How ONE Decision Transformed Sachin’s Career: The Sydney Masterclass.
In 2004, Sachin Tendulkar made a decision that would become one of the most disciplined innings of his career and a defining moment in cricket history. Facing Australia in Sydney, Sachin chose to silence one of his most potent weapons-the cover drive-in response to his struggles with getting out to that shot. What unfolded was a masterclass in restraint and determination. Let’s dive into this remarkable moment in cricket history, where one decision changed everything for Sachin Tendulkar.

"Sachin Tendulkar's 241 not out in Sydney is an absolute masterpiece! He was in total control throughout the innings, never looking flustered, even against a dominant Australian bowling attack. Batting for over 10 hours on a challenging pitch, his shot selection was impeccable, and the partnerships he built were vital. This innings isn’t just a number; it's a masterclass in composure and skill that continues to inspire cricket fans everywhere! Truly one of the greatest moments in the history of the game!"

There are two takeaways from this innings. 1. When the likes of Sachin Tendulkar shell up, you just can't do anything against that. 2. Even without a shot like the cover drive taken away, a batsman of the calibre of Sachin Tendulkar can still bat for over 600 minutes and score 241 not out.

Every Indian cricketer whether he is a star or not should learn from him. Played in Ranjis a month before his retirement tell his commitment towards the game. Sad to see some star Indian cricketers not being part of the domestic cricket in order to improve their game, telling the reason that not getting motivation to play domestic cricket. The results be like 3-0 against NZ. No current Indian cricketer can match the potentiality, endurance, commitment that shown our legendary cricketers as they face best bowlers in the world, played in harsh conditions, less facilities available & critical situations.😢

India played only two series in Aus from 1991(5 tests ) to 1999( 3 test series). 1999 in Aus test series ,Sachin vs Mcgrath was wonderful contest. India didnt win single test ,bcoz of poor bowling attack. Both Mcgrath and Sachin at their peak. Sachin scored 119 vs Aus Mcg 1999(debut of Brett lee). Sachin struggled only in 2004 and 2011. 1992,1999,2008 all series he dominated Aus away.

I could not call it a master class...he did not play a single cover drive...fair enough...once he got to his hundred he still refused to play it ultimately.. he scored 241.., but it cost india the test match .he was the man of the match..which should have gone to Anil kumble ..but India ran out of time thanks to sachin eating up time.😮

Pretty harsh and unfair to say that 1) Sachin batted slowly, he didn’t. 2) That it cost India the match. It didn’t. Four innings were played on that pitch and India was just 4 wickets away from victory. India could have enforced follow-on but didn’t as the pitch was still good for batting. India’s run rate was close to 4 an over in first innings and close to 5 in second. Not sure how that can be termed “slow”
@Oo-pl9zg
@Oo-pl9zg 3 ай бұрын
@neel24neo I watched each and every ball of that innings and it was frustrating and not his usual batting.Definiely not batting the way one expects from some one the public Nicknamed named " Master blaster" by our public. Unfortunately he played in a similar manner to get his 100 th hundred in all forms of cricket..it happened in the final of a series against Bangladesh.He crawled from 90 to 100 taking if I am right in excess of 20 balls.. ultimately this cost us the match and the trophy but Sachin was smiling throughout the presentation ceremony and offcourse he was felicitated. Mind you Sachin has always been a match winner for india..if not bat than with the ball.Calcutta 2001 and Adelaide 2004 come to mind.I am a Sachin fan but some times he did play for milestones.

Sachin Tendulkar is undoubtedly one of the most talented cricketers of all time, but at times I wonder about his dominance and aggression over great bowlers such as McGrath, Gillespie, Shaun Pollock, Muralidharan etc. He tries to pay safe rather than dominating them. If he had even half the aggression of players like Viv Richards, Brian Lara, or Ponting or even Virat Kohli, he might have been regarded as the greatest cricketer ever, even beyond Bradman. Currently, his status as the greatest is primarily recognized by Indians, while other players are often considered in the same league on a global scale.

I can bet Sachin wouldn't have scored 241 if Glenn McGrath wasn't injured . He was totally unable to play against him after ct 2000 . He totally struggled against line length Bowlers such as shaun Pollack and chaminda vass. After this bgt happened in India in 2004 where Sachin scored 9 runs against McGrath chennai test 2004 he absolutely struggled some fan boys are going to cry 😂..

You cannot say with 100% certainty that Sachin wouldn't have scored 241 if McGrath was present. Indeed McGrath was a complete nemesis for each batter including Sachin. Although Sachin had success against McGrath in ODI. But Sachin's determination, dedication and discipline on that day was inexplicable. This happened only once in the history of cricket. Who can tell- Sachin might have been successful there too showing the utmost grit on that day making McGrath lose his patience. Instead of imagining whether Sachin would be successful or not, why can't we adulate the supercalifragilistic inning of Sachin? (And I should mention that in the period of Sachin's tennis elbow (2004-2006) he averaged only 40 in test, he struggled a lot; who can tell that this gave McGrath an upper hand in 2004 BGT)

In odi you can yourself check dlf cup 2006& ct 2006 where Sachin was 70 percent recovered from that injury still he failed aginst McGrath . The man who had average of 57 after playing 175+ test matches, the man who averages 40+ in all countries- that very man, named Sachin scores with average of mere 40 in that post tennis elbow period... And you're saying this is bahana. Strange man! So the surgery was also fake! Second thing, McGrath wife died in 2008, although she was struggling before that. But get your information checked because you wrote she died at that time. Back injury occurred for a small period of time, it was not for a prolonged period. And as I told you McGrath was a threat to everyone. But in BGT, 2001 in Chennai Sachin scored 126 in the first inning. I accept McGrath to be a mayhem but why don't you appreciate Sachin's untellable knock instead of pulling McGrath and imagining what could have Sachin done in the presence of McGrath.
