Ghost Game was a really fun season to watch. I hope we get a second season, but wow that ending is quite possibly one of the worst in the entire franchise.

Afterthoughts: Ghost Game was a fun journey. The cast was great, animation was great, designs were great. This finale however is my least favorite of any previous Digimon season. There are rushed endings that can still get a story onto paper, and then there was Ghost Game. A crammed epilogue with 7 minutes to spare, paired with the true threat never actually being revealed for the current cast likely due to Toei. it's very reminiscent of Fable 3 where the lead up to the end gets really good, then it becomes a bait and switch telling you to make 6.5 million in pies to see the "good" ending. I didn't see the Arcturusmon and Proximamon reveals, but I was expecting Regulusmon to evolve to match Siriusmon. I saw some holding on cope for an OVA, but considerations like this leave such a bad taste in the mouth that it devalues the overall worth of Ghost Game. RustyCheeseknife (the guest voice at the beginning thank you)asked what to watch to catch up after dropping GG around the early 20's. Due to that ending though the only episodes with any value to the mainline story in my opinion were 38 (espimon arrival), and episodes 61-67 (end). Beyond that just watch the remainder of the episodes if you want more of these characters/GG world. That's fine, but it does hurt my overall opinion on the show. It's still a 7 out of 10 for me due to the overall entertainment each episode provided, but I can't help and think what could have been had we changed tracks when Espimon arrived.

I loved the first 15-20 episode. It felt like it was going down a great track. The formula was still new, the mysteries were getting intriguing, and the characters were... honestly, it was a low point most of the time, but I was willing to stick with it. Then, after a little while, I thought to myself, "y'know not much has happened recently, and almost no episodes set anything up. I hope this is just an awkward transitioning phase to the latter half of the show..." Then the episodes got worse, and worse, more and more nonsensical (even for digimon) none of the characters made any progress and any plot points just kinda appear no build up no plot hooks then just kinda show up. After that, I kinda gave up hope for this series. I'm not even gonna go into the god-awful ending. But even after all that said, I still can't give it less than a 5/10 simply because it was the first digimon series I watched with my brother from start to end every Saturday. No one will probably read this while. I just wanted to rant. o7

Nah I usually try to read all my comments. It's nice to see other people take the time of day to respond to these videos I put a lot of time into. I've been chatting with others about it, and honestly each episode was good as a standalone product, but in the grand scheme of things it was just such a shallow project that didn't bring anything to the table beyond the 22 minutes you throw down the well each week. The episodes aren't bad and I could think of several I'd consider watching again (my definition of a 7/10), but would I rewatch the whole thing again(an 8/10 expectation)? probably not. Hope your brother enjoyed it enough and you get to watch some of the classics with him. 👍

(If you still want to know about series to cover, I stumbled upon Bilibili's "No.7 West Mars Street", which out of the blue hit me with the energy of an old Cartoon Network show. It's out there on KZbin, it seems to have gone under everyone's radar and it has been the most memorable show for me in quite a while. If you have time to explain this OVNI...)

Thanks for the comment. At the moment I'm not certain what I want to do with the channel. The Yu-Gi-Oh stuff I've been putting up recently has been doing numbers which is nice to see, but it's almost hard to want to work on that when I'm actively taking a hiatus from yu-gi-oh due to the current format. I do hope to come back to doing series reviews though as they were something I really enjoyed working on. side note, I will probably check No7 out. I see the first episode is available on youtube. It's really cool to see cartoons from other countries that aren't just Japanese anime. The Chinese have had a lot of success recently, and I could see that region getting more steam as animation continues to develop.

I didn't know how to feel about the ending really when it first aired, but in retrospective I'm ok with it, and I'm so happy the main cast got to stay with their digimon, I always thought the separation part was so stupid, in every season the main cast literally save both words, at lest let the kids stay with their digimon friends as a reward, they always deserve it.

It's pretty funny when you stop to think that Hiro Amanokawa is the first protagonist of a Digimon anime, with the exception of Taiki Kudo, who have several Digimon partners at once. He has his 2 brothers, Gamammon and Gulus, they have Espimon, Bakumon and MoonMillenioumon.

The series dared to use the core Digimon lore that had been forgotten for years (the computer virus that evolved) and went far beyond that. It showed that Digimons and humans can develop romantic feelings, it showed that it is possible to use the partner of another Tamer, that the care you have with your Digimon can influence its evolution (Canonweismon was basically born from there), it showed that Digimons can be scary for nature or cause disasters due to a misunderstanding and so on. The characters are super charismatic and the series helped to popularize Digimon that were forgotten like Koemon and Herrysmon. Yes, they have a lot of problems, like the idea of ​​trying to make an episodic series out of a universe where everything tends to lead to disaster, or the fact that Toei canceled the series and they had to appear all over. But still, it was a fun trip and one that also helped revive the Franchise.

Xros Wars actually isn't that bad despite having the worst ratings out of all the seasons. I definitely prefer it over Ghost Game and would rewatch it before ever rewatching that trash.

Recommended to give a key to Savers/ Data Saque. The series has some problems, like Yoshino's lack of development, but it's still one of the best Digimon series and a great introduction to the franchise's lore. PS: Besides, they have an anecdote about how the protagonist of the series caused a multicultural disaster, but that's just the meringue in the cake👀

The biggest sin commited by Ghost Game was to blueball fans of even thinking there would be a goddamn plot. Then at the point where Lilithmon steps in and I'm like ''OH MY GOD, PLOT!!! GIVE ME PLOT'' and then the rest of the episodes comes and I die inside. The only good thing I can say about GG is that the animation was some of the best and the designs were cool, but damn man. No plot, how the hell did we get here?

GG ending gave me the biggest whiplash I ever felt like I can actually feel the breakneck speed of it. This show is just boring and a lot is just pointless, especially espimon fuck espimon delete him and you would not get anything different. This ep feels like someone gave a paper to a 5 year old and ask him to write a happy ending. When compare to appmon's ending, everything is complete there is no plot hole left, every plotline is done and they don't have this" oh by the way unnecessary information thing". I really don't mind Appmon CGI, like I watched Beast Wars as a kid the important part is the story, GG animation is nice but the story is so hollow that I feel no excitement for it, hopefully the next season they get better writers and please have appmon make a cameo at least

First, no idea about another series. God. Nier Auto' is lackluster at best and I'm barely paying attention to Tokyo Revengers, I want to say I need an actually interesting show but I've yet to watch puppet swordman so I've got no excuse. Second, yes. F- Espimon. Third, I have two reasons why I think Ghost Game fell short. 1. Mystery The show is episodic and mystery/horror, so I'm mighty fine with the lack of character progression and story. I'm also an adult and so I don't mind having the entire universe turned into a near-literal cosmic joke. But let me re-emphasize the "mystery/horror" part: it is expecting/requesting viewers to ask questions, to investigate. That rushed ending, in turn, offered lackluster answers when they weren't nonsensical and left a lot more untold. I was expecting this, to be honest: episodic series involve a half-dozen writers or more and god knows how many directors so not everyone can be Gravity Falls. But when you make a series about mystery, you really can't afford to introduce a gun and then not fire it. And it's especially a waste considering how Ghost Game was toying with Digimon conventions. 2. Epicness Again, this is an episodic show for kids and with a clearly limited budget, and despite that they really did their best, with some memorable moments like a rabbit killing an egg or Hiro fighting Asura; or just Gammamon being replaced. I also came to like Edgimon and his 'yo' and those last episodes did give a nice fight with two layers of Inception despite two thirds of the combatants being sidelined. Problem is they never committed. They had occasions to Leomon a few things but shied away and while I'm sure kids were impressed, as adults we can tell it was just smoke and mirrors. I assume they had artists who were willing to go the distance but were told no. So as a show it was fun, and a demonstration that Digimons are at their best when in the "mystery/horror" genre. Now give them a budget and a bit more freedom and about two-three years because I think I got enough Digimon for about that amount of time and as far as "mystery/horror" I got unfictions like Diminish or the Interloper to feed me.

Digimon Ghost Game's last episode is clearly just a stinger just in case someone wants a Season 2 for the show. It's funny how the writer of this show, Masashi Sogo, was infamous for writing 26 episodes of that god awful Bleach filler arc known as The Bount arc. And yet here he is basically saving the Digimon franchise from that god awful 2020 reboot and being the most interesting story since the days of Tamers/Frontiers given how everything else in between was lower quality compared to Ghost Game.

Oh God the Bount arc. That's a name that I wish I didn't hear more than a decade later. Biggest take away here is sequel baiting just leaves a horrid taste in everyone's mouth. The show was fine and fun, but cramming an expo dump right at the end was such a miserable decision because of what it does to the overall worth of the episodes leading up to it.

Wait a minute, did Masashi write the Bouts arc? This explains a lot. Both the Glost Game and the Bouts arc are a latistically poorly executed bunch of interesting ideas. A tragedy.
