I love that as this series has progressed, it's gone from "People are hurt BUT IT'S OKAY THEY ARE FINE" to Hiro seeing what was left of someone's skull after the villain ate the brains out of it, and then a digimon with probably the highest human kill score to date since it's impossible to count how many it massacred. No one will think of the words "I'm so hungry..." the same way again.

2020 (AKA the Taichi Show) was a load of hollow nostalgia dependant drivel as far as I am concerned. By two episodes in I knew Ghost Game was going to be a major upgrade.

Legit I had the exact same sentiments lmao. During Ruli and Angoramon's debut, although I was still apathetic and cynical coming off from Adventure 2020, it did remind me why I loved Digimon in the first place. But then Kiyoshiro and ESPECIALLY Jellymon's debut came and it ignited my love for Ghost Game and reignited my faith in Digimon.

Gammamon and Sealsdramon was amazing. There’s consistent animation. I know some hate the talk no Jutsu but there’s a lot of good here. Also some very well directed horror and thriller episodes and they treat death of human or digimon with a lot of weight. Also Jellymon is waifu

I just watched episode 19 and I love the dynamics of the pairs. Like, Hiro is inquisitive and Gammamon is too baby to fight but does so anyway. Ruli and Angoramon have a knight and princess thing going on but it's non romantic. And while u already talked about Shiro and Jellymon, I would like to add that they kinda give off a dominant and/or toxic girlfriend and jumpy boyfriend vibe

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for good episodic shows, which is why I absolutely love Ghost Game since my choices for episodic Digimon shows before that either dropped the episodic structure in the latter part of the series (Savers), had a protagonist I can't stand (Hunters), or was a spin off that most of the fandom barely talks about (Appmon)

I will say that if Ghost Game has anything down, it's how even though the show is episodic, I can still really enjoy each episode purely for the range of characters that exist on the main cast and the extended digimon cast that sticks around between episodes. Appmon was good fun, but I think the biggest issue I had with it was that the characters weren't really used beyond their catchphrases which was a bit sad considering I really did feel like there could have been something there. Especially with the last quarter of the show and the main plot being AI vs AI.

The horror is on point The characters are likeable The cringe factor is nonexistent The mysteries are intriguing Even throwaway episodes are at the very least humorous or scary as hell from concept alone And you know a series is damn good if a reviewer outright refuses to discuss it for the sake of keeping the surprise factor

I just find it funny that I say, "here are reasons to watch this show." followed up by, "well we are going to take a small hiatus" Idk if I'd say the show has pacing issues. If I had to be critical of anything here it's that the show still feels a bit too episodic with random nonsense stories, but even in the episodes that feel mostly pointless we get touches of story significant material so free shrugs. Though compared to 2020, tri, and applimon I'm really enjoying the ride so far.

Ghost game is currently my fav digimon series. There are parts that are disturbing and horrifying which I question this series if this is still for kids. I also like kiyo and jellymon because of their character personality. They also add comedy and excitement to the series.

@@TheAverageGatsby I saw those thumbnails but while I do wanna see them I really don't want to think again about how disappointing and how much of a wasted potential that series was. It's not good for my health haha but judging by what I saw in this video our thoughts about it are probably pretty similar. This video gave me my dose of Digimon 2020 hate and now I just want to try to forget about it and wait for the 02 movie. I hope when Ghost Game is done that you make a video for it tho! I know it's a bit slow in terms of plot but I'm honestly enjoying it week to week way more than 2020. Again, great video keep it up!

It's a fun punching bag. Honestly though as a whole, the second half of the show wasn't that bad as an episodic popcorn anime to not think to much about. I'm just overall disappointed that they had the opportunity to make something cool out of the reboot, but instead just squeezed out the most generic copy pasta Gunpla money could buy.

I will be making a follow up video, but the tldr is that the show has issues that isn't only, "wahh why is this episodic show not moving fast enough!?" I've typed it out a few times in other replies. I should probably pin it at this point, but I'm still enjoying the week to week adventures adding on additional cast members to flesh out this world and see it as one of the first digimon series in a while that I wouldn't mind a second season for. At the moment though life has me tied down, and youtube/twitch are more of a hobby than a job. There will be a part 2 to this video though, that I am sure of.

Honestly digimon in general has obvious shin megami tensei inspirations. Not just with stuff like lucemon looking like a chibi version of the light version of Lucifer straight down to the pose, but stuff like the earliest iteration of data, vaccine, and virus being a more barebones alignment system like law, neutral, chaos before becoming like a rock paper scissor system, as well as the party and user interface and memory system in digimon story. That's not a bad thing though, I actually very much like how its tone more and more tends to be similar to one of the earlier concepts of smt, which was going to be demons in the internet or something to that effect.

I'll make a follow up vid when the season ends, atm I mostly feel the same. I see too many people complaining about pacing, but there are bigger problems present that go unmentioned. I acknowledge that I am willing to hand wave the "pacing" because I genuinely enjoy the worldbuilding and characters. But people complaining about a modern shounen anime being too episodic is laughable.

And yeah GG being episodic is fine I don't mind that and if it stuck to being like that I doubt people would have a problem but for me it's just that it does have a story it wants to tell in a more serialized format with the constant mentioning of unanswered plot threads and the set up the first 20 episodes gave. GG wants to be episodic yet still have serialized plot elements in it's story. Unfortunately I believe that they will probably try and rush the ending of the series which would be disappointing as I do enjoy it's premise and characters despite my grievances.

We get glimpses here and there of potential end game which is great, but if the payout is rushed then we would end up with a show like digimon 2020. Currently the show is still entertaining with new mons popping in and out as side characters which is this season at its best. But I'm cautiously optimistic that once we get into the digital world/figure out what happened with Hiro's dad we will get into a string of strong episodes to close out the season.

@@TheAverageGatsby Agreed the elements of a great story is there which deserves more attention and time to flesh out especially by this point as most digimon shows would be near its end. As always the horror aspect is fun as an aesthetic and bringing in old foes is cool as it shows how the cast affected their lives. Fingers crossed🤞It ends nicely and won't be a messy finally for the show so that it can end on a high note.

@@TheAverageGatsby That’s fair, it’s just that there’s not much of a story other than being episodic, and there are so many things they should have put into the show by now like some of the mysteries such as what’s the connection of the Black Digimon, what so special about Gammamon, who is the main antagonist, why are Digimon showing up in our world, etc.

The characters are well defined in their nature and style, but because of that there really isn't a lot of room for them to grow. With most Digimon series you can see a defined change in the traits of characters. In Ghost Game you don't really have that, and I can't imagine they are going to change much. There are a lot of small things that add up, but yeah that's for another video. For now I just take it as a fun episodic ghost story shounen.

Ghost Game blew my mind. It can be spectacularly dumb (fastest karts on Earth... who let that kid in sole charge of a power plant...) and cheap, but moving from the adventure genre to the mystery genre is the best thing that could happen to the franchise. In the adventure format, digimons are punching-balls and you want to fast-forward for that 10% of the episode where they faite by yelling very loud. No strategy, no real tension, just git gud. In the mystery format, digimons will stomp your face if you try and so you had to spend 90% of the episode learning their methods and motives to have a chance against them. Even randomly yelling attacks suddenly seems to have meaning and consequences, and in the earlier episodes digivolution happened at the critical moment, giving it weight too. Now let's not lie, power creep did its work. Digivolutions have become common and routine again, half the time the trio can punch their way out of it and both gimmicks (chocolate, overdrive...) and long-term mysteries (bandages, Edgymon...) are kind of falling flat. Only fans, in my opinion, can really appreciate what Ghost Game has to offer.

I don't get why people like ghost game so much I saw the whole thing and while the first couple of episodes felt nice after a while it started getting boring and formulaic there was no big bad and every episode felt the same. An horror mystery followed by a digimon fight. If I were to compare it to the first couple of shows I'd say that it was the worst digimon show I ever watched.

Zero disappointment, personally. Partly because the show lacked a budget from day one -- Ghost Game's version of Silent Hill is just sad -- and partly because just like I dreaded power creep, I fear an actual story would make the whole show nosedive hard. Let dad handle the story, I get to enjoy digimons get creative in their human playground.

I just hope they don't bring back Tamers and ruin it. Digimon got so bad lately I started to like Xros wars... and when you manage to make me like a show where the main character is a gary stu, then you know something is wrong. JK. I only like the manga of Xros Wars because it actually gave a good reason why Taiki likes helping people unlike that stupid reason in the anime. Also it is much much better written because the author made another great story called Element Hunters which had a crappy resolution but was overall a good show for kids that can be enjoyed by adults. Didn't watch Ghost Games yet. I hope nobody from Dragon Ball Super is involved... These guys should go back writing fanfiction far away from us consumers.

I'll say this about ghost game. The show is good, the main plot pacing could use a hand, but if you can get past the episodic nature of the series and enjoy the characters for what they are, this is probably the best we have gotten in a while. I fully intend on making another vid once the season is over, but for now I'd say it's at least worth a watch.

There seems to be a very apparent ongoing theme of the necessity for a bridge to create understanding for the digimon, who are essentially refugees in a forced exodus from their home who cause hysteria and destruction either from lack of understanding or malicious intent. The need for there to be someone to try and create some sort of peace for both sides had been brought up several times now, which can be taken as the major plot thus far. Having no big bad or no concrete singular enemy to face in a story does not mean a lack of plot.
