There is a book by Lesley Blanch titled THE SABRES OF PARADISE about Imam Shamyl. Frank Herbert drew on it heavily in creating the Fremen culture. Its opening line is "The Murids wrote love poems to their knives." Herbert used that one and many more in DUNE.

I remember first learning of Shamil when I was a child and the Chechen Wars of the late 90s were going on and he served as such an inspiration for those trying so hard to expel the invading Russians yet again. This is on another level though. So awesome. Have always held a special place in my heart for this area of the world and it's excellent to learn more and more about it's truly epic history. So good. Around the same period, there was another Muslim revolt against the Russian empire in the Kazakh Khanate led by Kenessary Khan from 1837 to 1847, Kenessary was actually a prototype for a character of the Khan in Julius Vern's "Courier of the Tsar" or "Mikhail Stroganoff". Would love to see you make a video about that since these events are absolutely not talked about.

IMAM SHAMIL fought for 24 years and 10 months. His sister, so that her body would not be touched by the Russians, threw herself off a cliff and died. He gave one of his sons to the Russians to save his soldiers; after many years he returned and died in Dagestan. Dozens of Avar villages in Dagestan were burned for their obscurity. Another son, after the end of the war in Dagestan, moved to Turkey and became the head of the Dagestan regiment in Turkey. Truly, this is a legendary person. May Allah forgive his sins.

This is a empire again grit and it don’t leave. Even the mighty English had to allow the Scot’s on their flag however you see it. That is a Scot. @@hunnerat-touaregi4439 hunnerat your probably here because your an MMA fan not that your very islamic probably only heard of this Awliyah through following khabib I on the other hand practice Islam naqshabandi is the most prominent sect of Islam with world leader's in Malaysia Brunei Erdagon of Turkey in Russia and Indonesia we follow Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. which leads us to the true worship of Allah so if Islam has no saintly people who are the sahabah were they not saintly men and women if you think Islam has no saintly people your a weirdo by definition and most lightly in a tribe from Najd....

@@hunnerat-touaregi4439 A wali (wali Arabic: وَلِيّ, walīy; plural أَوْلِيَاء, ʾawliyāʾ), the Arabic word which has been variously translated "master", "authority", "custodian", "protector", is most commonly used by Muslims to indicate an Islamic saint, otherwise referred to by the more literal "friend of God".

The thing is with majority of Sufi tarikat we actually study the Qur'an it's tafseer and the all Hadith's of Prophet Muhammad SAW..so when we here comments from loser's like this we'll happily shut them down like all Tribes of Najd they have no hold on the sincere Muslim ummah that follow Islam with a guide/Shaykh to show us the true path of enlightenment for they know the secrets of what is actually being recited not just saying word's without gaining there true understanding ...

@@justdave4637 many of the Sahaba such as Umar ibn Al khattab, uthman bin Affan and others are certainly friends of Allah subhanahu wa ta ala yet no where in any hadeeth of sound chain of narration does anyone call any Sahabi a "saint". Saints are worshiped and praised and sought after for assistance (something certain Sufi sects actually do) and that is not Islam but kufr. Who said you don't need a shaykh? Or ustadh to teach you the Deen? No one said that. We just don't praise a shaykh more than is needed and indeed the best shuyukh would NEVER let you call them a wali or even let you call them pious. Some will even become upset with you. This is the disconnect you sufis have to the real world. That we must be united upon tauhid first and foremost.

In the Jewish hasidic group called Habad , there is a song called by his name, I'll post a link of the grand rabbi singing it. He had a tradition that when shamil was in prison by Russia he composed the song in wearing and hope he'll be free and liberate his people,kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6fSi5iLZtGqabM Not so clear it's from the 50s or so
