We have a player in our D&D group who has horrible luck like that. We even let him play with weighted dice on purpose to help him out, but he decided to just use some regular dice because he thought they looked cool and were a gift from a friend. In our last session we fought an ancient dragon because my level. 6 rouge/bard accepted a challenge from one (he’s a bold fellow) and to everyone’s shock and amazement his character (a war-forged paladin) absolutely dominated in that fight. He got like three crits in a row and dealt hundreds of points of damage. It was incredible for someone who normally rolls nat 1s constantly even with weighted dice. I’m sure his back must be hurting from carrying the entire party in that fight.😂

Man did this advice come at a really good time. I’ve been so bogged down by trying to juggle everything I care about and feel I should care about, and in the end I just end up trying to care about everything. But when you’re so overwhelmed by it all you have no energy to care about anything!! Then you just feel like a heavy blanket, you’re not sure wtf to do or how to feel and then you can barely be there for the things that really matter. It’s a really hard struggle, but I hope I can find at least one thing where I feel like I don’t have to care, I can be fully in the moment and not stressed about the end outcome. Maybe it’ll start breaking away at my stress and teach me how to just let go and stop caring so much.

Been a little over ten years and a single game from an ork boss at a tournament is my local store's go to for warning new players about just this problem with a dice game. Nothing like seeing the last two nobs in a squad fire their sluggas into a two man squad of termies (back when they were 1w) two dice only, both hit and wound, termies roll ones, store goes wild. He lost the game but had the best story of the day. The moral we tell with it is that the games may go badly even in a tournament setting, but nobody remembers those, you remember the nail bitting moments that get the blood pumping. So don't worry about the win, just have fun. So glad to see you found your way through that rut we all end up in at some point from rule changes and embraced the Ork side that cries out for more wagh. 💚

Loretuber Occulus Imperia has a video on orks called The Waaagh Effect which I'd encourage you to check out. Specifically at 24:15 there's a section of Ork dialogue whch spells out their philosophy. I reckon you'll find it really resonates for you. "All I has to do to win at bein' me is.... be me. Be an Ork. Batter stuff. 'ave a massive larf battering it. " You've got a really good handle on the Zen of Orkiness and the positive mental health effects. It's exactly what drew me to them when I started looking at 40k/OPR

Might not be the same but I had my awakening to daka in the first tom clancy division game. There's a gear set called lone star, which was built around the idea of sustained fire. Basically, you had unlimited ammo, and the more you blasted bullets, the harder your bullet hose hits. So yeah, my favorite thing in that game was just holding left click till everything stopped moving, the serenity after the guns stop ringing was euphoric.

There's a beautiful Dakka parallel with this and an old PBS Idea Channel video on how bullet hells are zen. For those who don't know, the individual projectiles that cover the screen in bullet hell games are also called dakka. In that video, he talks about how in the sheer proliferation of data it's basically impossible to separate it all into individual points of information and comparison. You have to go into a flow state in which you perceive the entire field as one contiguous thing. You allow yourself to respond instinctually rather than consciously. Just a fun, coincidental comparison I thought was relevant!

As an Ork player that primarily identifies as a Blood Axe Dread Mob collector I agree entirely with the Goff/Beast Snagga heavy bias currently. I've not been looking at the rules lately but Beast Snaggas (as cool as the models are) are way too low-tech for my weird science walker army and when every Ork army I see seemingly Beast Snaggas or a bucket of black and white Orks, seeing your shooty Bad Moons is a breath of fresh air! I also love the Artel W TF2 Soldier Ork in your army. I bought one myself because I loved the sculpt and I am currently painting his mob-mates. I primarily collect Adeptus Mechanicus and I still consider the 10th edition rules for them a vandalism offence, but your message to adopt a more carefree attitude like my Orks has a lot of merit. Most of all I like painting and showing off my models more than actually playing the game and I should remember that. Thank you for your message, I have to remember it more often.

As a thousand sons player with terrible dice luck, i feel your pain of always rolling low. I also get the zen of playing just for fun. I lose a lot, but I'm just hanging out with friends so it's worth it. In the end, it's a game meant for fun. But those highs of good rolls can be something. My crowning achievement will always be getting a wound against a custodes captain on a hover bike with a blue horror, the last man standing in his squad. It only did one wound to a full health model but the sheer odds of it happening were just so amazing me and my friends took pictures to celebrate it cause we knew no one would believe us. Just playing for fun makes the lows just casual smack talk and the high so much better for it.

I can relate to your initial pains with Orks, especially in the shooting department, 5 ups, typically 4 strength with no AP can feel like such a curse especially when everything else can just get ya and slice your armour beyond defending but our toughness is grand though 💪. For a while all that stuff nearly made me regret playing Orks, a friend of mine, a fellow Ork lover switched to a different army while I felt I was in too deep and kept trukking along and you know what after a while, after playing more games and trying to role play the Orks to an extent, being Kunnin and being Brutal as I could be, seeing every battle as a good scrap whether win or lose I started to love it. Don't get me wrong a win always felt good and a really bad lost could still feel meh because it would be more like the party bus came to a stop rather than someone stealing my glory. As I've gotten more to grips with the game I've gotten really familiar with my boyz and how best to help get them stuck in and krumpin and unleashing Dakka and I couldn't be happier in my games. Just wish Ghaz was a little cheaper to field or at least had a bit more to him, he still hits like a Stompa and I find Mikari hilarious though will take any opportunity to field them though. PS if you ever want to play let me know 👀

I don't play tabletop war games, but man do I relate to a lot of this video. I'm notorious among my friends for having terrible luck with dice outside of the rare exceptional session where I become a god roller. I usually lose at least two characters per campaign despite playing safe whenever possible. I just sort of accept it as part of life. And on the competitive side, I've been playing fighting games competitively for a decade, and have always had mediocre results. I always go 0-2 or 1-2 in bracket despite almost always having close games. I can just never quite cinch out the W. And what you described is more or less the same mentality I have. I'm not there to win, I'm there to have fun with old friends in an environment where they're encouraged to do their best. Fishing with the boys is a good analogy, but I've always likened it to Cheers. It's a time and place to get together and get away from it all for a while

As someone who plays Evil Sunz Orks, I completely understand the frustration and anger that bad rolls can get especially if you have massive Mork(or Gork)anauts being completely annihilated at Turn 1. I wanted to quit the Tabletop game entirely because of my Terrible Bad luck rolls and RNG but seeing this and realizing how silly it was to be mad at something I had NO control over, this really helped open my eyes. I'm definitely gonna go back to playing with my Boyz and show everyone DAT RED ONEZ GO FASTA!!!

theses videos remind me of a point in lore where an eldar philosopher said that orks where the pinnacle of creation because unlike everyone else in the galaxy they're happy.

I just finished putting together my 3000 point Ork army last week, gotta say putting them all together and painting them all within the span of 2 Months has been so relaxing and so fun that now that I’m starting to kitbash units from scratch.. yeah it’s safe to say I’m a little addicted. XD On a side note, my favorite model in my army isn’t my Mega Warboss or my Stompa, it’s one of my Standard Boss Nobz leading a squad of Boyz. Named him “Boss Babah” and wrote up a story about how he’s an aspiring Barber, Scalping his enemies and stickin’ em on his Boyz’s heads “Cuz Orks wear it bettah!” I recently repainted him and changed his black jacket to a White jacket complete with red and blue Barbershop swirls~ and all of his Boyz in his 20 Ork Squad are all my most unusual or goofy of my army and I love them for it XD

6:36-7:12 You know, I understand that one. Sure I like a good melee, I have Black Templars and a love for models that are designed to get into a brawl has soon as possible (Assault Intercessors go brrrr). Yet, one of the first army ideas I had getting into the hobby was “how much artillery can I bring to a game before the just tell me to leave?” style of Guard army. Heck, when the new “Cities of Sigmar” models were shown off the only models to catch my eye were the Fusiliers and the Ironweld Great Cannon. So, you know what Gaijin? Shown them the power of overwhelming DAKKA, and to orkify the words of Emperor Magnus the Pious show them the meaning of WAAGH, Steel, and DAKKA!

Orks with guns is a true master piece of ascetics and design. Also, they have good lessons to learn not just in game but in life as well
