I understand some of us have awkward hair lengths and may feel self conscious about it but natural clip ins/weaves/wigs exist! Imagine how powerful it would be if we let go of this obsession with straight hair and wear our hair natural as a collective. @UCv-iadpD40p6W8E9OKDrJPQ I think bw have heard plenty of times already that black men “do not like weave” were not wearing it to appeal to the bm. The weave and the wig wearing can stem from deep rooted self hatred, insecurities, texturism, laziness, following trends, seeking approval from society or social media etc. I honestly think there’s a lot of bw who haven’t been taught what it is or means to love ones hair and how beautiful it really is. When society pushes a certain look and beauty standard many people gravitate to it. It’s not necessarily having anything to do with appealing to a man.

He actually added in they were leaving and he had to tell me.(I have 4c/b hair and had matching clip ins so think Diana Ross😜). So when Chrissy says it’s a conversation starter BELIEVE HER.

Yes! Our hair turns head lol! My first experience was when I was walking down the steps to catch the train and I heard someone say "hey". I was going to keep walking but decided to say hey back. It was a black guy with dreads and the next thing he said was "I love your hair". Made my entire day 😂 So many compliments have come from different people, men and women, since then. I SO hope that one day the majority of black women realize how gorgeous our hair is and how empowering it is to love it. That confidence that comes from owning your natural beauty is so damn real!

The "it's a protective style!" argument is tired. If you're wearing wigs and weaves more than your real hair, you're not protecting anything at all. A lot of us need to come to grips with the internalized anti-blackness and take accountability for perpetuating it. And I say this as someone who pretty much wore only weaves until I was 28 years old. It took a lot of unlearning but I'm much happier and PRETTIER wearing my natural hair.

I wear wigs more than my natural hair but I also love my natural hair and it is 100% protected everytime when DONE CORRECTLY (I do it myself so I know it is). It’s not anti-blackness it’s about rebuilding and regrowing damaged follicles. Now some ppl neglect their natural hair and in that case you are partially correct but you do know our hair grows long and gets straight too so how is it anti black to want long hair and to sometimes wear it straight? Just like any other style ppl wear it is a temporary style. I personally don’t wear straight hair because it elongates my face but every once in awhile I do, doesn’t mean I want to be another race.

Some of these people clearly didn’t get the comment fully. We’re not talking about exceptions that some people may deal with like hair loss or occasionally wearing weaves and wigs to protect your hair. We’re talking about people that never let their hair breathe and complain about they’re hair not growing. We’re talking about people that praise and want the 100% Brazilian but rarely wear and appreciate African hairstyles. No more excuses. Learn to appreciate and work with what you got and push forward. Again, many women who wear weaves are also not afraid to rock their natural hair. And hide their complex behind these arguments : if I wanted to look white, I would’ve bought white hair.

I know I can’t control what my daughter does with her own body, but I will strongly discourage her from wearing a bunch of wigs and weaves. I wore them almost nonstop since I was 18, and stopped when I was 38. They were like a crutch, to the point that I felt so ugly without them. It took me nearly a whole year to feel comfortable with my micro locs, but now I wish I’d stopped wearing them sooner, because my edges are so thin. My son graduated high school in June, and just about every girl in his graduating class had super long, bone straight weave or wigs, with a lot of the baby hairs. I think I saw maybe three girls with what looked like their own natural hair. This isn’t to shame anyone who wears wigs and weaves, I just think we should encourage the younger generations to care for the hair they were born with and don’t be ashamed to wear it out because it’s beautiful.

Yes, we need to stay on code and discard some of this self-deprecating behavior to be discussed publicly… They are watching us and thinking we have low self-esteem. Big chopping was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I look 10x better and my confidence grew. I’ve encouraged many black girls my age to do it, and there’s a certain glow or added beauty you get when you wear your natural hair. They’ve also agreed with me. Blackness is a gift. We’re truly beautiful 🥰
@emjohnson72073 жыл бұрын
When I did the chop years ago, my daughter said, be glad you got a nice shaped head. My son was upset 😨and brother quiet.🤐 My sister has hair that could be sold for a wig said, never her.🤗 Within nine years, my daughter has gone from permed mid back hair to short afro to natural locs at her shoulders, and no more scalp issues. My sister cut her perm out and learn how to wears twists. Even the sister that was scared to go natural went natural and clips on a bushy puff. Sometimes my son cuts my hair and my brother's wife went natural and looks 😎 awesome. There are so many KZbin vids on taking care of natural hair...that's how I got the courage to buy clippers, learn the guards to use and cut my own hair and fade the back. There's been mistakes😳, but I roll with it until it grows back.

I think possibly one reason people are finding it too difficult to maintain their natural hair is Bc the desired look is to get 4C hair to appear more like 3A-C. Like at the height of natural hair KZbinrs it would be like 12 hour periods with literally 8-10 products just to get truly natural hair to look IG-appropriate natural. Bc a lot of these dudes out here using one 3in1 product and got hair down their asses… but they’re letting it grow out as it does on its own

@@k.c.5426 right! And imo locs usually require more maintenance compared to just wearing 4 type hair out. Especially the smaller the Locs are and the amount you have on your head.

Chrissy is right!! Why are blacks even mentioning that this is the hair we buy? It’s still sick with the obsession over bundles that NEVER resemble our hair. Most Asian and white women don’t care for us like that even the ones who Xould be or appear to be cool I always keep in mind how what they could be saying when they go home. This is why I stay to myself and I don’t over complement them while putting us down. If I see a beautiful woman “Love your hair” “ you’re pretty” “Like your shoes” But it stops there. We need to praise our own hair first I love all races of hair but I always put mine first and we look so much better with our own hair we look much for healthy and youthful

The amount of money we give to people who don't care about us and don't give back to us is astounding. The amount of praise i get when i wear my natural hair still surprises me even though I've been natural for 6-7 years now. People love looking like us, but we love looking like everyone else. I get it as we are taught we aren't good enough but enough is enough. We are beautiful as we are, bigger noses and thinner noses, big and small afros, curvy and thinner bodies. When we are confident in ourselves it makes people stop in their tracks. This conversation will never be mainstream because there is way too much self hate and defensiveness. Im tired of the cringe and second hand embarrassment.

And if black women would take care our hair from birth it would be just as long. We snatching little girl edges at 1 year old and wonder why our hair won't grow.
@gazellehelene53803 жыл бұрын
What I noticed is that those with long hair don’t do anything with it- they just put it in a limp ponytail or bun or just leave it down. However, you see Black women with different hair lengths and their hair is always so beautifully done. True beauty is not found in hair length, it’s found in hair love. That is why it is your crown-it is a symbol of power and beauty but it is not required. Royalty remains royalty, even when they take off their crown.

I recently cut my hair and the same women seem less threatened by me even complementing my short hair. Hair is such a touchy subject with women in general. We need to stay on code and enhance our natural phenotype as much as possible. I miss my long hair now and can't wait for it to grow back! Ugh why did I cut it lol 😫
