That's is the beauty of having a functioning community. I suppose you have customers whose parents have already bought wood from your company. You are understood by your fellow citizens as a pillar of the community.
@mrwaterschoot5617
@mrwaterschoot5617 Жыл бұрын
it must be that thing called karma if you trust your customers they will earn your trust. if you doubt them you need round the clock armed security or police monitoring. that you will have to pay for and that is costs that drain revenue. if god sends you a poor hard working soul in need of heat gladly given it to then. no charge that is called paying it forward. you are helping god's people in need and god will return your kindness in blessings that you will never expect. if you give the person in need of heat. a bundle of camp wood may keep them in heat for a day or two. it is a hand-out. but if you teach them how to get heat or have them barter time for wood then they can be warm for a life time or a position where they find a better way to get heat. and that process is a hand up like the proverbial give a person a fish they eat for a day. teach a person how to fish they eat for a life time. i trust the folks at capital lumber log yard. they can figure it out. i will cast out a couple of suggestions and if they are worthy of implementation they will test. if there are holes in my logic we can figure what can be done or not. one idea is to work with the landowner and the negotiated contract with the owner. if the owner agrees have the person looking for heat to go to the log site and pick the branches or limbs left in the woods if the heat seekers do not have access to a saw possibly the boss could spend a little time to cut the limbs left in the woods to a size that is burnable to the heat seeker. being cut shorter allows the cut offs dry and lightens the load. but if the land owner is managing. the forest harvest leftovers for wild to forage then the idea is not doable. another option is to have the heat seeker come to the landing and clean up stuff that will not go to the log yard for further processing. you get free cleanup they get heat and no money changes hands. if that is not possible clean it up an possible have a give away pile or maybe have them visit the log yard and have them work the clean up with you.

I wish I lived in Pennsylvania so that I could come buy some lumber and say hello. When my father's side of the family migrated from England, they purchased land from William Penn. There is supposed to be the original Carter house still standing, but I'm not sure where it's located. Y'all seem like salt of the earth type people that I would be proud to call my friends. Two of my cousin's that lived on a cattle station bagged manure and sold it using the honour system at a road side stall. They had trouble meeting demand and l think had the cash box get stolen once, but as two young girls in the middle of nowhere they made a surprisingly large amount of money out if it. Country people seem far more trustworthy overall, but you still get people travelling through that just want to take anything not nailed down.

the refrigerator is on order and the solar are collecting juice from the sun. heck they could simplify. make solar hot coffee or tea. if they want cold coffee or iced tea they need a cooler of ice before they get the refrigerator. now a question for the ladies . if a rich person told you they had an opening in the queen department of rivers ? yes no it depends. would your choice change if the job changed to being the queen of de nile. pam j tillis might know an answer.

There are a few roadside stalls selling fresh produce in my area, they all seem to do fairly well(they are still doing it after many years so can't be that bad). Then again we also have a community give away table/area where people leave excess produce for others so not like anyone would ever be hungry enough to need to steal around here.

I am in a position where I do a lot of profiling, I know I can be completely wrong sometimes but, when an area, or region operates on an old school belief system, feels remorse for their failures, has an "only take what is needed" personality, you generally have a great community. Glad to see you have that there. I can give to those in need, but when you ask for things that you are perfectly capable of earning, I get a little fussy.

Nice to hear people still do this. If this was in our community, the yard would be empty the next day or bored teenagers would set piles of lumber on fire just because it was there. Or stolen firewood would be sold out of a pickup truck just down the road. If questioned where did the get the wood, while the pickup owner is saying the words, "I'm honest, don't steal my wood' followed by the sound of pumping of a shotgun.

Or MA! Actually where I live in rural western central MA, you can still do this. But around Worcester and anywhere east of that, or around Springfield, and several other cities, you'd be robbed out of business. The general culture here is anyone in "business" is "rich", so therefore it's "ok" to steal from them. I've seen this attitude MANY times throughout my life here, even with relatives. Sad! Part of the political system here is responsible for that, I'd wager. They give handouts, then "instruct" people on how to live ... which isn't the right way 99% of the time. Sad state of affairs this place has been in for decades.

When you hear Thunder, you can be struck! Since you see lightning immediately and it takes the sound of thunder about 5 seconds to travel a mile, you can calculate the distance between you and the lightning. If you count the number of seconds between the flash of lightning and the sound of thunder, and then divide by 5, you'll get the distance in miles to the lightning: 5 seconds = 1 mile, 15 seconds = 3 miles, 0 seconds = very close.

The best thing when I arrive at home, after the daily madness, to watch machines working. Slow motion, beautiful girls talking and working. Pointing on moisture meter with dirty nails. Sometimes the Boss showing up, giving me mindset/attitude lectures. Even I heard the shy grandpa talking during the sun-electric-panel planting. Watching the inbuilt chainsaw working, or used directly by the mother (I guess). Calm content, cool music in the background, sometimes chill trip with a truckload of wood, with amazing landscapes, or a visit to the local bigger companies to interview. Sometimes with outside bathing at winter in icecold water... brrrr! I can never do that! Keep up the good work, I wish you all Luck from another far away continent.

I grew up in rural Minnesota.The people there are descendants of the original homesteaders who settled the area in the mid 1800s. Since then there has been no major influx of people. In fact, most kids have to leave to find work. I got a summer job and found myself working with the father of a classmate of mine at school. I asked for directions from a total stranger, and found she was the Aunt of a friend. The police chief went to the same church as my family. I knew the juvenile officer from deilivering newspapers, and the sheriff because he taught a community education class in Judo. In those kinds of communities this can work. Close to the Twin Cities, this will not work. There are drugs. Vice Lords sometimes come from the city, stage a series of crimes, and then head back to the Cities where the police don't care. I hope your community does not change. This is the culture that built America, and it is sad to see it fade away.

I work in the wood industry and work with a bunch of burly angry old ugly men that have been building commercial and residential trusses for 20. . . sometimes 30. . . maybe 40 years. When I looked up youtube videos on how 2x4's are made, I think that your impressive documentation of a business that is bound for greatness is always interesting to watch. But this one made me emotional because stealing firewood really is a matter of life or death and I appreciate your compassion. But the conservative in me says: now that you have solar panels, you can set up a system for very cheap to take a snapshot of their Drivers License if any motion sensors are set off that light up the area - (which would increase safety for your customers), or if they are repeat customers, just a keypad code when they show up. Look into Raspberry PI's - they are very cheap, and you can set up security systems easily just by following youtube videos. I am delighted to tell those burly angry old ugly men that teenage girls manufacture their wood. Best of wishes!

Solar powered security cameras have been around for ages and are fairly cheap(record to microSD cards) but by the sounds of things they would do almost as well with just a few fake/dummy cameras around. Unless someone turns up with a truck and forklift then it sounds like theft isn't going to be a major concern for them(though far worse if equipment goes missing). Still now that they have a constant power supply your right that they could setup a WiFi network and a base station to record from multiple cameras if they feel the need. I love setting up systems like that, but in my area it's not a bad idea given we occasionally get problems with theft(normally people travelling through). Luckily in my case l make for a bad target given my driveway would leave visitors highly exposed, not exactly a little wrong turn or wandering in off the street to get to my place, but neighbours that built closer to the roads have had a surprising amount of issues.

Honestly,, most of this country would love to be in a situation without worry. In CA they turn the houses into Ft Knox and leave the car doors wide open so the thieves don't break the glass.. It is a different world and I wouldn't change a single thing.. Don't create a need and you won't have a need.... That level of trust and respect can not be bought and as soon as you mess with it,, it will be gone for good...
