Best skate vid. So, true story here. I lived in Rome from 2002-2005. One night, went to dinner with a bunch of friends, showed up a bit late, and the only seat open was across from this blond guy. I hadn't seen his face yet, but when I sat down and looked up, holy shit. It's Owen Wilson. We had a blast that night, and then started hanging out almost every night for a couple months. He was filming The Life Aquatic at the Cinecitta studios. The narrator is right. Owen just has such a great vibe about him, and he's a ton fun to hang with. I was bummed when the film wrapped and he had to leave. Fast forward to when i moved back to the USA in 2006, and picked up a copy of Yeah, Right. I texted him when i saw this part, and he laughed his ass off. Said he had such a great time filming this segment. He told me his favorite parts were the unscripted ones. I hope this story didn't make any of you fall asleep.

It was pretty obvious at the time it was Koston, his style is too hard to miss. I used to (and still do) film all the events and socials we go to for edits, and also have skated for the last 25 years, but the two never overlaped. None of the people i regularly hung out with were that into skating, and i didn't tend to socialise much with the local skate scene so there was never really anyone around for me to film

If you're still in your twenties and you're not overweight, you can definitely skate. You don't have to do any tricks just get confident at riding and pushing at different speeds and turning. Most of the fun is being confident in simply riding fast. I knew people who could do all sorts of tricks but could not ride like I did. If you've never skated before it's awkward but you will quickly get comfortable at it, then practice turning quickly by slightly picking up the front of the board and pivoting to either side. One fun thing to get good at is doing 180's by simply dragging one end around while riding. If you have no friends to skate with like the good old days, it's ok to skate alone with some music. I started in my driveway, learned to Ollie in my garage lol anyway I'm reminiscing now lol take care.

I love this skate movie. I saw it about a thousand times, and a lot of understanding of how to realize tricks came to me from this movie. Beautiful tricks, montage, and soundtrack.

I absolutely loved that in the "Yeah Right" video. It was so influential to my life. As well as Sorry, Really Sorry, Baker 3. Many more lol it was the best time to be a young teen starting skating with all that going on 🤟

I agree. Sorry and really sorry and the transworld videos before that. Pj ladd killed that shit. Anyone see the games of skate going on at that time too? I'm pretty sure pj ladd won the whole thing. If not definetly 2nd.

@@joeymeyer8261 yeah those es games of skate as the precursor to batb was a fun time. I remember p-rod taking Koston out and Koston was saying he was just trying to keep up w/ him.

...Front Salad, Back Salad, Front Blunt...Brilliantly delivered, what a great idea in such an epic skate video. Owen nailed that part. The backside blunt was smooth as butter too!

I like how he says Robby McKinley when it's Rick Howard (whatever happened to Robby... next video idea?) But definitely good video of behind the scenes of that iconic video and little, but iconic as well, clip of Owen Wilson. I remember always speculating who that skater was who did that back blunt. I always thought it to be Koston. And now it's been proven ha.

yeah that was my bad. I pinned a comment about Rick. It's such a good clip, especially for people who aren't/weren't in the skate scene.

i remember learning a long long long time ago that the trick wasn't owen, and it didn't surprise me, its a hard trick. but the fact he didn't know anything about skating but pulled of the lingo that well.. thats a real mind blower. that might be owen's best performance. i really thought he was at least around skate culture

Being a 12 year old kid when this came out, I most definitely thought this was legit and remember telling a couple of my friends, "Did you know Owen Wilson is actually a really good skater?" over the course of my teen years lol. He's the man though. so chill, hard to believe that he was baffled by the lingo cause he fits right in.

Owen Wilson and his brother Luke are fellow Texans like I am, and I've had the pleasure of meeting him and his brother numerous of times. The narrator is right, the guy is so likeable and he's the same character he plays in every part of his movies. My sister was attending the University of Texas in Austin and his first movie Bottle Rocket was released. I was working at Blockbuster at the time and I loved indie films so I rented and bumped into him at a Subway near the campus. We chatted for an hour about his movie and he explained how he had interest in continuing acting if given the opportunity. I kept seeing him in the area for awhile, we always had a few words, but once his movie career blossomed I unfortunately didn't see him anymore. His amazing career is well deserved, and I wish that not only they were more actors like him, but people in general. Btw this is a great skating video and I'm a lifetime skater myself!
