This is the first of 2 parts where I show you how to paint a helmet. Paint helmets is one of the things I do to get money to my own motorsports driving! Here I am custom painting the Carbon Schuberth helmets to the factory Aston Martin driver Maxime Martin!

You do a brilliant job with the helmets! The attention to detail is amazing. What type of sandpaper do you use? I want to give it a go but don't want to accidentally damage too deep with the sanding. I have some 400 grit. Is this fine enough for the job?

Thanks mate! 😄 400 is perfect!, that’s what I use!, but you have to something who is for corners in the corners!, I don’t know the name for the type of product I use in English , sorry 😅

I’m currently painting a helmet at the moment, my base coat was grey then I needed to add white on top. To cover the grey I needed quite a bit of white and I’m now left with rough edges. Should I clear coat between layers? And also should you peel fine line and masking tape off before paint dries?

The problem with the edges happens yes. Clear coat is on top when you are done with all colors and so on

Hi Marek! No, you don’t have to! But you have to be careful and don’t paint to tick layers! Then the edges are big and difficult to get away when you sand down the first layer of clear coat!

Why don’t you use primer before laying down the base coat?

No need for primer on top of the original color when it’s sanded down!😄 That’s just more weight!😉

Do you only use a mini gun and an airbrush, or do you have different guns for different purposes? Also, what vinyl do you put in the vinyl cutter to mask the logos?

I have a Very small airbrush gun for shadows, a half big gun with a 0.8 nozzle for colors, and a standard paint gun with a 1.5 nozzle for clear coat. It’s a special vinyl for making masks for painting 😄

I'd like to customize a helmet with thin vinyl stripes in gold (to match the car: fastandcautious.com). Would you give me some advice for the cutting? Should I model the helmet and then trace the lines in CAD or do it 2D from the start?
