►To stop early extension there are many drills to help golfers but for me this was pure gold.
Pete Cowen showed me that by spinning the right arm down in the downswing, I can maintain my hip flex and create more power whilst getting the desired angle of attack into the ball.

It took me awhile, but the more I work on spinning the right hand and wrist, the less shanks and stand up, early extensions! Thanks for a great video!

An excellent example of "goat humping" Andy and how to stop and correct it! Your suggestion of using the right arm and rear/lower body correctly in the downswing is something I am always working on! I will admit, that if I loose focus on this practice, then I will probably get early extension and bad shots! Well Done Andy! Looking forward to more good things coming from you in 2024! Happy New Year!!!

Andy, as someone who encountered early extension from nowhere and nearly caused me to give up last summer - following a lesson - i played with my legs locked. This cured my early extension. However, after watching your “towel drill” from Pete Cowan with the Average golfer. I found that this enabled me to take a traditional stance with bent knees and this eliminated EE. As an aside i then saw a Ben Hogan grip video from later in his career when he had a weak grip with the right hand overlapping the left. I found this to in effect be a natural development of what the towel drill did and no EE. Just another view. love the videos though.

A good feel for this is trying to hit a punch and compress the ball. I really struggle with early extension and cant play often enough to work on my swing but found i never do it if im hitting a punch. Another big thing is not going to fast from the top of the back swing, almost feel for a pause where everything has finished moving. If you fire too fast from the top with your hips your arms get left behind and stuck behind you so you early extend to make room. Slowing at the top keeps everything connected and reduces how out of sync your hips can get.

still very confused as to what the 'spinning arm' bit is, spinning where ? sometimes it looks like you just try and roll the club face from open to closed sometimes it looks like you try to spin the inside of your elbow out, but can you explain in more detail the actual 'spinning arm' movement, like what you should try and do with your hands/elbow/arms/shoulders, hope that makes sense
@andycartergolf
@andycartergolf Жыл бұрын
Techincally the arm doesnt do anything extraordinary. It is just following the natural rotation of the swing arc. Many golfers try to ‘drop inside’ or inadvertently swing over the top therefore causing the arms to be working against the natural arc. Spinning the arm is a feeling (if you need it) to keep the club and hand path on plane

@Spurs1961-wn2pq Жыл бұрын
Spinning the arm means from the top into impact holding / retaining the right wrist hinge and at same time rotating the right forearm anti-clockwise. There is no manipulation of the hand & wrist so that the retained right wrist hinge puts pressure on the shaft at impact to compress the ball. I find this works because (A) get more compression & a penetrating shot and (B) as Pete Cowan & Andy explain that so called "spinning'' together with forward / downward pressure into the right leg / foot gets lateral and rotation movement happening automatically.

Do you feel that the downward movement of the arms is what starts the downswing?

It depends what you have a problem with in your swing. But if you ‘come over the top’ then it is a good feel yes

What about the spinning arm?
@DASH1ful

well, once again, just looks totally contrived. the full activation of the "inside muscles" in the left side of the right leg- in the start of the downswing- is key; but, this is a reactionary movement. the leg reacts against the left wrist joint; and the two work as antagonistic opposites increasing swing coil in the start of the downswing. the "inside muscles" in the left side of the right forearm are, also, key. but, the wrist joint prompts the inside muscles in the forearm to, also, work as an antagonistic opposite and fully activate.

Ill read this to my next lesson then when he asks WTF are you on about I’ll simplify it & come back to the lessons given in this video 😉 Coaching is about knowing your audience

Missing the plot Dash. How does your description relate to the average golfer. Try coaching that! Also, this lesson is based on Pete Cowan's method or is that contrived too.
@A1BASE
@A1BASE Жыл бұрын
Nonsense. Utter, utter nonsense and balderdash. This is a jumble of words that makes zero sense. For muscles to act as antagonistic pairs they need to have a shared point of movement. The leg and wrist actions can act independently of each other and so, obviously, aren't an antagonistic pair. Don't believe me? Sit perfectly still and move your wrist. Did you jump out of your chair? This is basic physiology. Maybe you're just not explaining what you're trying to say very well - if so, try using simpler language instead of showing off. You might have better results.
