Teddy Riley has blessed us with not only some of the best Michael Jackson productions post-Quincy Jones but also putting the Neptunes on by featuring Pharrell on the drums to "Rump Shaker" and having him do the "S, the double, the U, V" chant on SWV's Human Nature mix to "Right Here" (tying back to Michael Jackson!) Then when Chad Hugo came along they did SWV again for "Use Your Heart" and produced the Total and 112 collab "When Boy Meets Girl". Also, Chad is featured as a saxophonist on the Jay-Z track "The City Is Mine", produced by Teddy Riley. It all comes full circle!

I figured out the secret to The Neptunes sound a few years back, and it's purely down to their background in marching band. If you take the rhythms played on a snare / drum in band, and translate it to a chord or note on the triton, it'll sound like them. Take Justin Timberlake's - Like I Love You. The guitar on that is playing that marching band rhythm.

@@christophermoody6840 All workstations have that exact price point to this day. Yamaha Montage 61 keys, $2200. Roland Famtom series 61 keys, $2200. The latest Korg, same thing. They've always been around that price. And given the amounts that majority of pro level gear costs, $2k isn't that much at all. Monitors and mics go for more than that. Some software bundles are north of $2k… Hell, some MPC's are more than $2k. So to anyone participating in the pro level arena, $2k for a board is crumbs compared to a $10,000 Moog One or $25,000 Roland Jupiter-8… Just saying, relative to what's out there in the pro world, two thousand is not a lot.

I remember all the GOATS from the 90s pretty much used like only 4/5 machines.... And me being THE PRODUCTION NERD (no pun) I AM knew what each and every one of them was using.. if i remember correctly. 1. Premo : i think the early stuff was on a SP(1200) ...but all the memorable SHlT that are stapIes in the cuIture the MPC 60 2. MUGGS : the SP. 3. DRE : like Preem.. the early stuff with the SP then moved on to every varian of the MPC 4. Pete Rock : KING OF THE SP1200 (if you ask me) the sound he got SOLELY FROM THE SP without moving onto the MP(C) when he could've... Is unlike anyone else besides maybe MUGGS... for staying loyal to the sp as long as he did... knowing alot of my fav PR beats came from a limited SP. when he could've switched up and did so much more makes those beats just so much more special 5. ALCHEMIST : the ASR - 10 then evolved into the MP 6. Madlib : again the SP.. and the BOSS303. 7. TIMBALAND : THE KORG TRITON 8.. NEPTUNES : ..... obviously.. KORG TRITON 9. EVIDENCE : the ASR-10 10. RZA : The ASR- 10... and (or moved into) the SP1200,) for the most part these were the integral producers that mattered the most with the music I was listening to in my day (the late 90s/ early 00s) ....and so with that said... there's of course MAD HONORABLE MENTIONS I probably forgot.... And to my original point.. there's what? I think 3 or 4 of the SAME MACHINES.. that what the world and the industry. Kinda crazy with all the different things we have available to us now...SOME OF THE WORLDS BEST PRODUCTION was done off these simple machines.

5:06 2003, I began work on my first album back home in the Bahamas. The guy at the studio I was considering paying to produce my album had this triton. I, a skeptic, said “How good is this thing REALLY?” Without breaking eye contact with me, Z of S-Typz productions reached next to him, hit a couple buttons and sightlessly did exactly what is happening here, knocking out “Grindin’” one handed. He then did a few more recognizable riffs a la Chad Hugo. Suffice it to say, the Triton & the Fantom defined an era. Mostly the Triton tho.
