Soviet and russian human rights activist and dissident Valeria Novodvorskaya, answering the question of what is needed to curb Russia and bring it to its senses, is a small country that can no longer threaten anyone on such a scale. No nuclear weapons. Before her death or assassination in 2014, she said: “Today’s password for free people is “Slava Ukraini!”, and the answer is “Glory to the heroes!” Please save Ukraine, and this is the only thing that can save Russia.” She believed that if Ukraine follows the Western path, this means that Russia will inevitably follow the same path. Ukraine, with Maidan and the expulsion of Yanukovych, chose the Western path of development. And this is dangerous for the retention of power by Putin and his gang, when an Orthodox country, where they also speak russian, rushes to the West and abandons the soviet past and the russian protectorate. This can become a contagious example. That is why Putin decided to start a war with Ukraine, so that it would not know calm days and would not be able to carry out reforms to join NATO and the EU. It's simple. Elementary Watson.

Female opposition leader simply by a fact that she's a Navalny's wife? Are you for real? Leader's position by a birthright or something? People even didn't knew that he has a wife. For the most, their first impression was that Navalny has died and then, suddenly, his wife is on some conference in Europe in a full makeup a few hours later. Where she was while Navalny was in prison? - Not in Russia. Even other opposition didn't say a thing about her existence while Navalny was alive. This "charismatic, clever and strong woman" can continue sitting in Brussels or whatever and do her "meaningful" protests there. Putin will surely be scared after he sees a few dozens or hundreds of people in some EU country protesting against him, and Russians would surely see her as a leader of opposition too. Right? Russian society is a traditional one and it won't accept a female leader unless it's according to monarchy. In the recent hundred years there was whooping one woman politician who was respected - Valeriya Novodvorskaya (died in 2014, was respected despite having quite questionable opinions). Others? People even don't respect Nabiullina who does nothing short of a miracle by keeping Russian economy not only afloat, but also growing. And some random woman who just happens to be late Navanlny's wife? Yeah, sure, no. Maybe in a Russia from your fairytales, but not in an actual Russia. Even if she has some support, it would be teens who cannot even vote yet. Navalny was respected to some degree, his wife never was and never will be.

He sounds like a boring old lawyer-bureaucrat, it's really boring, before the crisis in Ukraine I didn't even listen to his speeches, only since 2022 I had to figure out what was in a person's head when this nonsense with Ukraine began in Russia. It seems to me that in the West he is either demonized, or, on the contrary, glorified by other forces. Yes, he boldly went against the collective West, but in speeches he is almost always the one who, according to his first education, is a dry lawyer.

The main resource and basis of Russia's existence is not oil or gas. Russia's fundamental asset is its huge deposits of cheap meat marinated in poverty, immorality and alcohol. Centuries of slavery, debauchery and alcoholism, multiplied by decades of the Gulag and glorification of the prison subculture, could not but give rise to the establishment of animal-like relations between people as the norm there. I would call this a feature of Russia, a protective mechanism developed over centuries of invasions and wars on Russian territory. The territory of Russia is huge and rich in resources, and the number of inhabitants is only 140 million. To defend this territory, we need men with strong willed qualities, ready to endure and die, all this is in Russian culture. Western people will not be ready to live in the trenches, kill and die, because they are accustomed to a high standard of living, consumption, and are well educated, but educated people are difficult to manage! In general, at the beginning the Russians suffer losses, but then those who survive gain experience of war and become deadly weapons! In general, the West wants to wake up this sleeping bear again 🤔

We have to take into account cultural differences before discussing the idea of X or Y country becoming a democracy. There are societies whose culture is intrinsically collectivistic. Russia is one of them, and so is China. People lack initiative, the needs of the individual are sacrificed to the common good, dissent is suppressed, and decision-making is delegated to a father-like figure or autocrat. People in the West can't imagine living in a world where their freedom would be taken away. But for the people of these collectivistic societies it must be a relief to have someone making all the big decisions, as it frees them from having to make complex moral choices which even we in the West might not be able to make correctly all the time.
