I don’t agree with grouping beginners with posers they are two completely different things, one is actually trying to embrace and get better in skating/skate culture while the other is tryna be something they ain’t
@darkskinwhite4 ай бұрын
not even trying to be something they're not, just dragging around a skateboard for cool points. being a skater is a piece of your identity. imagine being a bodybuilder vs some dude with a fake muscle suit on lol. cultural appropriation 😂 & idk if everyone knows it or not but we all as Americans kinda understand what happens when counter-cultures get commercialized is bad. public gains vague interest in thing, big companies or even cornerstones of the culture end up pandering to people who aren't truly a part of the culture just following the money, culture gets diluted until it's hardly recognizable until the public loses interest & the original thing is left fucked up, sometimes never recovering. so disdain for "posers" is 1000% appropriate.

Well, sorry to say, my friend, but you are a pre-poser. Once you learn to ollie, your ollie will be pretty close to the ground, which will make you a poser. Once you start getting a more confident ollie, you'll be an intermediate skater, or as we like to call them, an advanced poser. Worry not, once you can confidently hit a 900 without a ramp (ramps are for posers) you will officially move out of the poser phase.

You can’t tell how good everyone is by their Ollie alone. Most people today have learned to focus on perfecting what style they’re best at& ignore everything outside of that . Probably because of pressure to meet a certain standard of success to post for social media. Not a lot of well rounded skaters today . So you’re either 1)really good at street where your ollie actually does says a lot about your skill . 2)Good at transition/vert where your Ollie doesn’t say much because speed and gravitational changes make your board more responsive to less exaggerated popping 3)very good at hippy skating where you may bust out no complys ,weird boneless & slappy tricks all over the place & never learn to Ollie at all.
