In this video I talk about the mages and how powerful they are in the Warcraft universe. Covering their history, the history of arcane and how the mages can manipulate it. Lastly I compare them to other available playable classes in World of Warcraft. In the Arthas novel they describe how Necromancy affects the user, and, well, you wouldn't want that happening to yourself or your students. There's also the unethical practice of enslaving dead people, probably not something you want in society.

There are couple of things that I would like to mention---Although this video is quite nice I feel that it was mostly made from general knowledge and lore pages such as wow pedia---Sadly magic doesn't have that much lore on the actual lore pages---A mage's real strength is their versatility. Although fel is more potent in general-They still counter each other--You can see that by the fel wards that kirin tor mages place around Karazhan, not to mention that mages (depending on their knowledge and strength) may actually draw energy from ley lines OR from mana gems, it is even shown in game that mages can use mana gems instead of their own mana reserves in game in a questline. Not to mention that mages doesn't really need to 'target' their enemies to cast a spell---They can blink as said above, polymorph or the best they could slow their enemies--Which is literally stated to be a chronomancy magic--Meaning it actually slows down the person literally. Apart from that mages can actually combine multiple schools of magic to create stronger spells--Domes of arcane by abjuration, elemental wards, and even in the nightborne questline combining abjuration with transmutation to create an unstable space barrier >.< Or the time where they can actually place wards or enchantments on their robes or on themselves---Such as in game wards where they shield you when you are hit or fataly wounded--Imagine a rogue's dagger strucking against a pre placed ward :P Their main strength is the combination of their deep knowledge and understanding of magic and their creativity. Also on a side note---In some lore sources mages can use other elements other than fire and frost--including electricty and arcane arcs in game lore and secondly a mage's water and frost can be enchanted and used to dose off fel fire and stop fel assaults as it was shown in gul'dan vs khadgar. Also in game kirin tor mages actually use ice block to literally block off falling infernals c: Comparing a mage's ice block or frost is like comparing a druid's animal form to your average animal ^^

Thats pretty accurate save for the Target part. A mage 100% has to focus on who he casts on as he "channels" thud mumbles an incantation and like with a gun needs to kerp wjat he conjurs and where he guides it in mind till the channeling finishes. During quick abilities like blink wich are btw Transmutation. So in the reality wrap school such as Portals, polymorph etc. A short ranged teleport you need to aim or you teleport into a wall. A mage could however skip time around himself to basicly quick run to a spot while time around still flows. But overall actual teleportation allows to reach high places pr even futher locations if you focus more.

Then again spell castig is portrait differently in every novel :/ In the old hored one for instance to burn a fire they focus on the concept of fire and try to bring an inner heat out. Ie focus. Some spells do seem to require incantations, though per novels some don't. And yes! THANK YOU never sen anyone else mentioning the speeding up time around the mage bit before x'D People tend to forget that slow all is actually chronomancy, and so is timewarp.

@@DemonMaluMintus From what i gathered all the big spells requier some form of casting and since things like curse of tongues slows castime we can assume all spells kind of do if they need to be channeled or cast forca lenghy time before you can fire them out. The instant spells do not. Now you can say it is just purely gameplay application id still go with it. As no not rob warlocks of a vetsitile silence in rp combat situations.

Actually, if you read Tides of War and other material, Arcane is usually described as representative of order, being depicted as math, orderly and predictable, by Kalecgos in a conversation with Jaina. The magic most representative of chaos in the lore I've read is Fel. A quote from Wowpedia: "While arcane represents order, fel is the magic of chaos and disorder." Edit: Just realized that he may have said "this order" and not "disorder," in which case, disregard.

I think the mages are the strongest class in lore (my main its not even a mage, so dont think that im not trying to be objetive). The warlocks has nothing to do against them, cause mages are the only ones who can manipulate all forms of magic. The titans are also considerer mages. Obviously their power depends in the training and skills of the individual, but almost nobody could face a mage that has reached all his potential. (Malfurion did, but the context play a huge part in that moment of Azeroth, also malfurion is the most powerfull druid) DK and Demons Hunter are really dangerous counters, but I still think that a mage with enought potential could still winn

Well I think that time manipulation which is an arcane mage strength far outclasses the warlocks's powers ... and tbh it should counter death knights and demon hunters for fun. Time magic is magic that outclasses everything else

@@SemperVII Actually so far only magic that could counter chronomancy was arcane in itself..Using wards to move inside a time stop zone etc..We know for a fact though that their simple slow spell actually slows the victim via chronomancy.

Doron, could you maybe do a video on how artefact weapons are treated in roleplay? Are they rejected because everyone having significant lore weapons ruins rp, or are there some exeptions? I am planning on server changing my mage to argent dawn and I've rolplayed before, but I'm wondering about the state of rp in legion. It would be great if you could clarify!

1. Necromancy is magic of itself, it most of the times is not entirely arcane. 2. DK can always (on average) beat mage in 1v1, especially the new ones.

Archmage can take on ordinary DK and most likely win, but if you want fair comparison you have to look at Archmage vs Deathlord/Scourge Lord (basically high tier DKs) such as Koltira, Thassarian or Rivendare (or even higher Mograine). And these guys are on entirely different level.

Mr.Vojtik to be fair jaina is an archmage, she faces the lich king himself in the halls of reflection. She couldnt kill him, but arthas wasnt able to kill her either. Archmages are often said in the lore to have powers rivaling those of demi-gods

Death Knights, Demon Hunters, Mages and Warlocks are the strongest classes in lore. Which would beat which is absolutely circunstantial for these classes, but they pretty much steamroll all other classes (with the exception of pallys being a match for DKs because they are counters to each other). Any other interpretation is just plain wrong.

Void and Light are equals, Pure void and Pure light can't manifest themselves in our world, we only see a shade of their power. The same way Light inspires, the void can be used to impart fear, despair and similar emotions. Arcane can be used for destruction, but it usually means Order. Fel is Arcane on steroids and a quicker way of doing things, where Arcane requires effort and hard work. With Fel you can just sacrifice animals and you can get enough to do quite a lot of things.

play W3. or read the story down below. They were originally allied with the Alliance of Lordaeron (during 2nd orc invasion and Troll wars), this is the time when Dalaran was build. However then W3 happened and Arthas with his undead horde prrety much destroyed entire kingdom of Quel'thalas. In this time prince Kael'thas became leader and High elves started to call themselves Blood elves (in honor of all those who died there). But there was another big problem: elves were connected (and addicted) to magic and they were in search for more power. They were also trying to keep good relationship with the Alliance (they were really dependent on them). Unfortunately the commander that was put in charge of reclaiming Dalaran (Othmar Garithos) was terribly racist and he was pretty pissed he has to work with blood elfs. So he was giving Kael impossible tasks in hope to get rid of him. In response to that Kael accepted help of Naga and eventually allied with Illidan. However not all blood elfs went to Outland with him. Some have remained in Azeroth. Excited with their newfound ability to siphon mana from creatures of the Twisting Nether, the blood elves have managed to retake the land of Quel'Thalas. Silvermoon has been rebuilt and the resident blood elves there were trying to return to Outland, where they could reunite with Kael'thas and achieve the golden destiny he promised them. And with the opening of Dark portal during TBC they got their chance. Unfortunately, the decisions of Kael'thas to continually accept the aid of Naga and willingness to use fel magic have caused blood elves to be no longer accepted by the Alliance. So, the remaining blood elves on Azeroth looked to the Horde to help them reach Outland. Addiction to fel magics and the desperate search for a cure are things the Orcs are very familiar with, and many older orcs who've experienced similar addictions feel a kinship with the blood elves. Trolls were more careful about it, since they were in war with elfs all the time, but since Vol'jin is reasonable guy, they accepted them too.

To sum it up. After the orc wars the high elves weren't a big fan of the Alliance with the humans. They did ally fully with them when Quel'Thalas was destroyed but Garithos (commander of the remnants of Lordaeron) ruined that when he attempted to execute them. The blood elves were a shell of their former society and through Sylvanas who was also once a high elf they joined the Horde.

I know this is ages years old but I still wish to point somethings out for new watchers, as a lot of rpers from the eu and us rp servers tend to use these videos as referencec too-Mages aren't restirected with in game spells we have. For instance wards can be long lasting if they are cast on armors or runes like dhs or rune mastes, and they can stop both physical attacks and magic basic attack, this bit of lore is from novels. Secondly if a mage or a warlock or a caster in general manages to lock down an opponent(a potent or experienced caster thata is) they can literally bring down doom upon them, casters can channel potent spells if they take their time, and they have more than simple ice novas in lore, there are literal binding spells that can immobilize an opponent and so on. I know in game they try to balance things out for games sake but for real lore and novels(and I am speaking about the recent novels not the ages old ones) casters and dhs are quite op actually, this is shown in illidan novel various times as well, spells or glaive attacks being deflected by wards, binding spells, scrying, portals, wards, and many more!

Arcane I'm pretty sure, as Arcane is the raw power of the world, while fire is just an element. Of course magic fire isn't the same as an element, but you can do pretty much everything with the right amount of power. Also lorewise, there's only "Arcane Mages" as their fire is made out of Arcane and not friction and what not..

Normally Fire. Ultimately Arcane. Arcane has the higher potential, if the Mage can take it on. This is shown mechanically with Arcane being 'trickier' to handle while Fire is more straightforward power.

Well, the fact that "fel is stronger than arcane" If you mean just power, yes, it it, but fel isn't so volatile, if the fight lasts long, the warlock would just not be able to use fel, thou it is more potent, the arcane is better for longer fights, as for DK's, I was looking for so much information about them. I have a Dk in my guild that sais that my spells don't do anything against him, then I founded out....saronite armor has small gaps.... perfect for evocation of flame

Hm... I would say that they can be as strong as they are smart irl, I had a priest in my guild, said he was supposed to be a disc priest, but would whine about "shadow" and why he has it. When I tried to help him he said I was too OP, but he never used Holyflame((witch is one of the best things ever)) he didn't use shadow made from light ((even thou he was a disc, not a holy)). But I won't be so sure that shadow priests are that powerful, they are a bit insane and they use the shadow from the old gods/void lords

Fel isnt better than arcane, the mortals are just not powerful enough to use arcane properly. Fel and arcane are like void and light a two sided coin.

Correct me if i'm wrong but aren't mages always decent but their power is very limited compared to other magic users like priests, warlocks and necromancers because they only really use their own power to use it

It is true in a way. The main thing about power is that in order to get a lot of it you also need to sacrifice a lot. This is why demon hunters and warlocks are very powerful. In the case of mages there is a limit to practice it safely. (there is also a limit with fel, void to the point of losing your mind) However there isn't too much magic lore and it isn't described in detail on how exactly it works and what exactly students do to learn it. If it was just learning and time spent than the draenei would be light years ahead of the humans. There is definitely a big factor of mortal limitation and the source of magic. For example Jaina could almost overwhelm Orgrimmar with the Focusing Iris which is a very powerful orb, but by herself she wouldn't be able to even think about anything close to it.

The draenei are really more of a light race than a mage one. They still use arcane but it isn't the center of their society like it was for the original Eredar.

Mages can control the world around them using the arcane and use that very energy to manipulate fire and ice by just physcally controlling them, this makes their control over fire and ice also much more reliable if you think about the control that shamans have due to the fact that a mage doesn't have a pact or a contract with a "superior" being, they use the raw power of the arcane to control the material world.

Arcane is like control of the natural laws of physics, and by controling that, Mages has control of reality itself. This allows them to basically create anything from thin air as they so desires, and create forces of nature aka. Fire and Frost, but also other elements.

Yes it does. Mage fire and Shaman fire are two very different things. Mage uses arcane energy, temporarily transforming it into fire (that's what is mage during during casting). Same go for frost. Shaman on the other hand is using raw elemental power which originates from their own sources (eternal flame, ...). And that has nothing to do with arcane.

Branko Dimitrijevic Honestly I'd hate to agree but likewise Azshara is far powerful even without the well(Naga form) as when Illidan got his eyes from Sargeras, he was able to sense the aura of Azshara and the highborne, after which he stated that Azshara's power could rival Sargeras' own. Though that's what I remember from the lore videos I watch. Not sure if she got such a threatening aura after being given it by Sargeras or whether it was solely from the well.

Branko Dimitrijevic the story is like this. Azshara once upon a time ruled over the night elves and they were prosperous yata yata yata. During this reign she decided to work with the well through her highborne spellcasters during which cousilor xavius thought the wells best use was to purify the world in his own way. However tampering with the well, the world caught the attention of sargeras who craved it for himself appearing in front of Xavius making him believe Sargeras to be a God. when Xavius introduced them Sargeras seduced her with falsified vows as he bore no actual feelings towards her. Then his plan went into action, war of ancient happened, she along with her followers submerged in the depts and eventually sides with the old gods (there's actuslly no proof that they are working for the old gods but ye, that's the jist of it.)

I think a correction is in order in my first part, I think I'll need to research further how she became a Naga after a quick nap. As for her power, from what I gathered it was her own, and that is another reason why she saw a potential mate in Sargeras, as she finally believed she found some one who is worthy of her due to his power.

1. learn English 2. he said that blood elf are the best mages 3. There is not really that many powerful mages. Ok Jaine is good, Kael was really good, Anthonidas was quite powerful, but that is all. Medivh, Aegvin (+ other guardians) and Khadgar are something different.

Jaina created a really powerful transmutation spell, Mass teleport, in Dalaran you can find a book that sais that, also, and this is my favorite, the inventor of "Mirror image" died because even thou her illusions are perfect, they weren't good enough a diviner.... a shame

MasterSouth5 Well she almost died after giving her powers to Jaina, that is still canon. She then became her adviser. If Blizzard really wants her dead, they may say, that she just died in Theramore or even before - when she gave her powers to Jaina. With return of Medivh we may found out something more, but until then she is dead. And even if she is alive she is living her peaceful life in nice cozy cottage far from civilization and no one knows about her.

their power is boosted,but it is still unknown how powereful Azshara is now,but even in the War of the Ancients she was the most powerfull mage of her time,and with the transformation to naga from N'zoth,she is far more powerful,so maybe they're equal or Azshara is more so

And even if that is true, I'm pretty sure the thing about archimonde and kil'jaeden being a match for Azshara was said before she was turned into a naga, which made her even more powerful. Also why the fuck aren't you talking about Medivh? You know, the most powerful and most recent guardian.
