Great video, one small mistake I want to point out. The great schism had nothing to do with the crusades and was already cemented for a while by 1099. It had to do with the addition of filioque to the creed and IMO a power struggle between the Eastern apostolic sees and Rome.

Didn’t the Emperor offer to recognize Papal supremacy (thus preventing the schism) in exchange for soldiers with which the Emperor could retake Anatolia? The Pope called a crusade instead and the Emperor never recognized the primacy of the Bishop of Rome, but they’re related, no?

At its height, the Pontifical States militarily controlled all the current Italian regions of Lazio ( with exception of some territories in the current province of Rieti); Umbria; Marche ( provinces of Macerata; Ancona; Pesaro-Urbino and Ascoli Piceno); parts of Romagna and parts of Emilia. In Romagna ( which comprised the central and eastern parts of present-day Emilia-Romagna), the Pope controlled all the current provinces of Rimini; Ferrara; Forlì-Cesena and Ravenna. In Emilia ( which comprised the western part of the present-day region of Emilia-Romagna, including the current provinces Piacenza; Parma; Reggio Emilia; Modena and parts of Bologna), on the other hand, the Pope controlled only a tiny part of it. Nevertheless, Rome was considered the spiritual center of the world, the eternal city ( AETERNA), the "queen of Italy" ( REGINA ITALIAE) and the "capital of the world" ( CAPVT MVNDI). The Pope had, therefore, the spiritual and the cultural hegemony of the Christian world ( but not a military or a territorial hegemony).

Good video, however the schism of 1054 was due to ongoing disagreements over the veneration of icons. The crusades were not the instigator of the split as the fist crusade was called for in 1096, over 40 years later
@johnlewis3891
@johnlewis3891 3 жыл бұрын
The schism of 1054 had nothing to due with icon worship. That dispute had long ended at that point. "A succession of ecclesiastical differences and theological disputes between the Greek East and Latin West pre-dated the formal split that occurred in 1054.[1][2][3] Prominent among these were the issues of the procession of the Holy Spirit, whether leavened or unleavened bread should be used in the Eucharist,[a] the Bishop of Rome's claim to universal jurisdiction, and the place of the See of Constantinople in relation to the pentarchy." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East%E2%80%93West_Schism#Differences_underlying_the_schism

@@johnlewis3891 True, but even beneath tthaz there was undercurrent - the differences in language (latin vs greek) the fact that the Pope was turning away from Byzantine empire and turned towards the Franks was maybe even more important because in the old Empire political unity and religious unity went hand in hand. In the 8th century political unity was in shambles and what followed was disintegration of religious unity. Suddenly, everyone started to look what was different, wgat was before a minor difference became a major one etc.

Important thing to remeber is that we must talk about distinction between power and authority. The first is excerised by force second by respect. In Catholic theology angels have hierarchy based on authority and demons on power. Similarly secular states excerised their rule by force most of time (though authority also was present). Role of the Papacy and Church in general was based solely on authority (not including secular possesions of the Church's officials like Papal States). It lead to basic notion that there are moral laws transcending will of the ruler (namely Natural Law and Divine Law) that should govern kingdoms and the kings should oblige to it. That is if a ruler rules unjustly he would be condemened and deposed by the Church (which was kind of a League of Nations in that regard, but independent of secular powers as spiritual authority and more succesful) and subjects does not have to oblige to him etc. It basicaly gave way to freedom we had/have in Western civilization compered to e.g. Islamic or Chinese collectivism as well as to the international law. I personally think the succes of Church's authority in the world, even to this day, is due to God's support.

The pope gained a lot of power when priests were no longer allowed to get married and have families. Having a family, especially a large one, creates a significant local power base. Just imagine running an organization, and some local chapter is ignoring you. Now you want to punish some of the ones that are doing this. This is much harder if they are connected to hundreds of people. Because by punishing them, you also anger those hundreds of people. And possibly other families that are connected through marriage. Just a single priest without family, much easier to influence, and much easier to create a steeper hierarchy. Same reason why you had eunuchs in China, and slave armies in the middle east (that were not allowed to have families). It is all about control.

Laughs in Orthodox truth xD. Funny part that the Pope separated himself from the Other Holy Sees of Constantinople / Antioch and Alexandria and from the Pentarchy and changed the creed by adding the Filioque. Pope Leo III denied his approval and publicly posted the Creed in Rome without the Filioque, written in Greek and Latin on two silver plaques, in defense of the Orthodox Faith (810) stating his opposition to the addition of the Filioque into the Creed. He was Primus Inter Pares first among equals not the de facto ruler of the church only Christ is leader of the Church himself. How is he a vicar when clearly Christ himself sent the Holy Spirit in his place on Earth after his ascension to Haven? hehe there is a whole other controversy that I can argue in long paragraph about Peter supremacy but let's say even if Peter had a special treatment all Apostles where equal in the face of Jesus and mostly they made Councils regarding certain things which the Orthodox still do today regarding doctrine and theological debate and if one bishop or priest doesn't agrees the change is nulled as it was for the all Ecum Council. Prior to the Islamic occupation of Alexandria, Jerusalem and Antioch the Popes were much more receptive to consulting with the other four Patriarchs. There were more frequent synods of bishops during this period. Once only Constantinople and Rome were under Christian control the Popes pushed a more hierarchical structure. If the Great Schism hadn't occurred before Constantinople fell another issue would have caused a split soon after. A similar split happened most recently in Ukraine so there are now Uniate Catholic churches, Moscow Patriarch churches, and Kiev Patriarch churches.

I understand why some people despise the Church and the Vicar of Christ, especially living in the countries that betrayed Our Blessed Lord and the Church of their fathers and then started their own "state" churches . Like the heretical sects of Luther and Calvin. Countries that broke away from England, esp the USA and Australia, are taught from infancy that the Catholic Church is evil and the Pope is the antichrist etc. Look at it this way; the Church has many pieces of filth and trash who represent Her,even from the very beginning..Judas Iscariot was one of the original 12, ordained a bishop from the Hands of Our Blessed Lord Himself, then betrayed Him ...Betrayed God Himself!!! That's proof of mankind's fallen nature and if not in a state of grace, man would commit terrible deeds: even inside the Church. After 2000 years of existence and after MANY horrible Popes, bishops, priests etc poisoning the Church from the inside making Her look soo bad, causing scandal after scandal....Amazingly the Church is still in existence. If that in itself is not some proof that the Church is of 100% Devine origin and of God, then idk what is....

Nice video but you butchered so many words in this - it's not "eccalesiastic" but "ecclesiastic" or more accurately "ecclesiastical", it's "vicar" not "vicaaaar" and the Pope is not the head of the "state of the Vatican", he is the head of Vatican City!! It's not called "Vatican" or "the Vatican" but rather the name of the country is "Vatican City", it is commonly referred to as a city-state because it is comprised of a single city. Also you said 'the christiandom", it is actually "christendom" where the "t" is silent. I like your videos but please proof read your script before posting 👍

Who knows Scriptures, please tell me who said: "My Kingdom is not of this world..." "I do not belong to this world..." "This world belongs to the evil one..." and if you don't know, "the evil one" is Satan! "This world is under the control of the evil one..." "Satan, the ruler of this world..." "If you love this world...the love of the Father is not in you...for this world belongs to the evil one..." So according to Scriptures above...Who is really the pope? if he is the ruler of this world? Can you put together 2 + 2 = 4? Dan.7 & 8 and Rev.13 & 17 reveal exactly who is the papacy is...He is the Little Horn of Dan.7 and Dan.8 for our Father in Heaven reveals to those who love the truth and live by the truth, but the rest of the world, those love NOT the truth they remained in the great deception Scriptures foretold!

@@johnchrysostomibarra First, I did not interpreted, but The Father and His Son revealed and taught me everything I need to know, just as Scriptures said in Dan.7; Dan.9, Dan.11, and Rev.13 and Rev.17!!! Even history showed the papacy did rule the world...and still does, but not so upfront but more behind the scene now...but as Scriptures also said, the WHOLE world is deceived and cannot see, and you belong and live according to this world so you are too deceived and cannot see no matter what...this is what Scriptures said (Isaiah 60:2; Rev.12:9).

@@jc2coming In what way does the Father and the Son revealed and taught about all that you said? Did God revealed to you in a dream like He did to Joseph? Or in a form of light like what happened to Paul? Or are you just pressuming like thousands and thousands of protestants do by privately interpreting the scriptures? History can't deny the fact that the Pope had a great influence among the Empires and Kingdoms in the Medieval Era, but that does not mean the Pope is the little horn mentioned in the Bible. Your interpretation of scripture is typical among protestant churches who don't even agree with each others interpretaion of scripture.

@@johnchrysostomibarra The Father & The Son revealed to me exactly the way Scriptures tell us, through His Ruach/Spirit, which is the same way He did with Mosheh and the prophets and all of His elects. Only a few times through dreams/visions but most of the time through His Ruach. As the apostles shared with us, we direct access through the Father/Son through His Ruach/Spirit, as mentioned all over Scriptures! Once He revealed, your eyes are opened to the truth...and I see clearly that the Pope had, and now is ruling the world though now more behind the scene...but the world cannot see, because they are under the power of the evil one, exactly as Scriptures said!!! And NO, I am not a protestant. Christendom is a deception, a counterfeit of the truth. I used to be a very devoted Catholics but I am one of those that The Father called "come out of her My people" prophesied fulfilled!!! Before truly reborn I kept wondering why Christians were not living like Scriptures said, why our prayers were not being answered, and many miracles were not happening like in the apostle times or before that...now I know why, because before I was being deceived like all Christians were, for Scriptures repeatedly told us that this world belongs to Satan, and that He rules and has deceived the WHOLE world (Isaiah 60:2; Rev.12:9) so we were praying to false names which were Satan's who deceived the WHOLE world into worshiping him thinking he is god. In fact, all the names & title the world uses are Satan's...before you got upset/angry go and read those Scriptures and see if it said "Satan has deceived the whole world" first...how could Scriptures repeatedly tell us all that and yet NOT one person of this world even see it even though they read the Bible? Because they are deceived/blind just as Scriptures said, so much so that even when I pointed out to them, the truth is too much so they denied and attack me...but this is not me but The Word of our Heavenly Father!!! And as Scriptures also said, only those who belong to The Father believe the truth...those belong to the world will listen to what the world said.
