You have spent approximately nine months attached to your biological mother during her pregnancy. During those months, her body fed you through the placenta and grew you into a strong little baby.
Throughout a whole lifetime, nine months are not that long. But did you know that those nine months of pregnancy, and the health of the placenta, can impact on a woman's health for the rest of her life? Dr. Meryam Sugulle believes that the placenta is the real center of the universe. Meryam Sugulle is a Consultant Obstetrician and Researcher at Oslo University Hospital, one of the largest delivery units in Scandinavia.
She holda a MD from Germany, PhD in Medicine from the University in Oslo. Scottish Quality and Safety Fellow, Cohort 13.
Meryam believes that the placenta is the real center of the universe and has a passion for multiprofessional skills- and simulation training in obstetrics. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Incredible how very important talk about womens health is still getting comments like “whatever, women’s function is to make babies, shut up and get pregnant”

When women speak up about their health, they're treated like they're disposable and it's their "responsibility" to suffer for the sake of having kids. This is why many suffer in silence. Some women might be OK with the life-altering choice of having babies but those who don't want to get pregnant shouldn't be treated like they're "selfish" for not wanting that lifestyle.

I vomited for 2,5 months, had stress during my pregnancy, enormous weight gain, lost a lot of blood and pelvicproblems. I lost all the weight right afterwards. Now 20 years later I have very high cholesterol and Lichen Sclerosus. My thyroid levels are changing more rapidly than they should according to my age. So in my case I cant deny what she is saying.

With both my pregnancies I had Pregnancy Induced Hypertension and bed rest. The doctors at the time told me that though I normally had low blood pressure (that returned after delivery) that I was at risk for hypertension and complications as I got older. This is interesting and it makes sense to me that some complications could be an indicator of future problems. Thanks for the heads up.

This video is a fantastic resource for expectant mothers and anyone interested in women's health. As a life coach, I often work with clients to prioritize their physical and emotional wellbeing, and pregnancy is such a critical time to do so. By making conscious choices about nutrition, exercise, and stress management during pregnancy, women can lay the foundation for a healthy and fulfilling life. Thank you for sharing this valuable information and for raising awareness about the importance of taking care of ourselves during pregnancy and beyond. *I'm really happy to see that someone have same passion like me because I'm also making this type of videos to make your life productive and meaningful*

Imagine having kids when you're not ready or mentally/physically healthy enough to take care of the kids properly. It's cruel to bring a child to a life of relative ambivalence and unmet needs. There's a time and place for everything.

One of the reasons why I choose not to have kids is because of health issues. I've been happy and healthy throughout my life and don't want to mess with that. Almost everyone I know who has had children have health issues due to it including depression, autoimmune and thyroid problems, back issues, etc. This isn't talked about enough and women suffer in silence about it.

@Covyn it was pretty clear to me. 1) there needs to be more studies on the issue. And 2) doctors -pcps - need to communicate with their patients who have had complications during pregnancy so that they can use preventative medicine and track if any diseases come up later in life.

Why is she only talking about the negative changes only? There are plethora of other physiological advantages of pregnancy as well. This is just a propaganda to deter women from giving birth so that they can adopt more cats and pretend those animals are worth more than having a babe. I understand not all women are able to have kids and not all pregnancies are helpful to the mother's overall health. All these should be investigated during antenatal care. But exaggerating to ward off women from having kids is no brainer for me. It's one of the many deceptive ideology running the existial postmodernism

@@jjay9909 out of the manya things that can kill a woman, complications from pregnancy is one of the least. Most of the cardiovascular diseases are due to lifestyle (smoking, alcohol, obesity, occupational stress and sedantry ), genetics (familiar and genes) and pre-existing medical conditions (diabetes, hypertension etc). All the above are kindly to cause fatal cardiovascular diseases that lead to death of women including those Who have never been preganant. So she is just exaggerating to push a postmodern ideolgy. If preganacy is a top cause of cvs pathology then Most women Who have given birth before should have it but that is largely not the case.

@George Akoto so you're saying that the dangers of giving birth just shouldn't be talked about at all because women die more from other issues? Do you hear yourself? You sound ridiculous. And it does happen to a lot of women, it's just not talked about or studied because science doesnt typically care about women's issues, which is the precisely what she's talking about. There's no agenda. It's just about saving people who otherwise might die from preventable diseases. You sound indoctrinated ngl.

Disagree, more needs to be done sooner and earlier. The placenta is critical to the health of the fetus and the pregnant woman. In the USA > 50% of women start their pregnancy overweight or obese, with notable health concerns. A woman's health most certainly will impact the health of her pregnancy, the baby and her future health. I agree with this physician, women would benefit from improving their health before pregnancy AND having earlier health checkups. The USA maternal morbidity and mortality is twice that of other developing countries.
