Can you do two minute tuesday how to become more confident on the pitch?
@CalvinFox31
@CalvinFox31 3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about doing that on my channel here. For me I can relate to you a lot with this, I sometimes struggle with confidence but here is what I find really helpful. First before a game think about all the hard work you have put in during the week to become successful for the next 90 minutes. Confidence is connected to how well you feel you are ready to handle the task at hand and if you're putting in work remind yourself of that. Second start with the small things look to connect small passes then grow from there. Everyone goes through times where they feel less confident but its how you respond to them that matters! Let me know if you think this is something I should talk about in my next video. Hope this helps mate.

From my experience you get confidence in games from practicing on your own because If you practice long passing for a week then when you get the ball and you are about to play a long ball you will have confidence because you know you have been working on it for a week and in a week it may not be perfect you will be okay with messing up on it because you know you have been working on it

@Yvan Sainathan I actually kind of disagree. When you're facing people who are really good, there's a point in which you have to realize that stopping them is going to take more than normal solid play. In other word's cheating to stop passes in and forcing harder balls over the top to create a foot race, or if they get the ball constantly shuffling my feet, because even though it's tiring it stops them from being able to get you fully turned around. Neither of these things are natural or instinctual, but are just adaptions you need to think about when playing someone more skillful than you.

I remember when I was a young defender, I would always just think of getting to the ball first and not letting the attacker make the first move. But as you get to 15,16,17 years old you start to realise that some of these wingers you come up against are actually getting smarter with their movement and it made me start to realise that you have to use a little bit of your instinct and just anticipate through body shape

Another example is with the 'under the wall' free-kick technique. Ronaldinho, and many others since, anticipated that the players in the wall would jump to anticipate his shot going over them and block it, and decided to shoot under the wall instead. He anticipated the other players' anticipation, and found a solution to score.

Great insight Matt! I deffo think this is not spoken about enough in coaching and training. Great explanation of a key part of being a pro player! Question for another video: Often I’ll get messages from friends/colleagues in the pro game who complain about their agency not doing enough, the politics of a particular team, or teammates who aren’t welcoming/kind. I’d be really interested in your take on personal responsibility and “extreme ownership” (Jocko Willink book), and how it can help with becoming and staying in the professional game. with the fullback, so to make it clear, the fullback is stepping towards the winger acting as if he is going to tackle him, he anticipates that the winger is going to go down the line, therefore he is going to take an explosive step and run down the line before the winger sets off. Is this correct?

The last thing you said I've been doing that since I was in high school. I never thought of it to be a particularly high level play, but it was very effective especially against my friends who played d2. It's also a good way to save yourself from having to do a long sprint because you can just intercept the attackers long touch with a short burst and shield it or force them out of bounds if you're feeling lazy and don't want to have to turn out with the ball. I liked to put in as much effort as was needed. No more no less lol. I used it mostly on the wing near the 18 and then force them out for a gk. I feel like it's one of the few positions you can get away with not being totally goal side of the attacker. Like I guess technically they could shoot, but if you stay tight you can just stick out a leg and stop it.

It all comes down to knowing patterns and soccer isn't different to other sports like snooker. An amateur snooker player might be able to think a few plays ahead but a pro like Ronnie O’Sullivan will look at a table for 10 seconds and knows how he can clear the entire table without really thinking. Because he has seen so many tables during his career. It's the same for soccer players. An experienced soccer player will see the positional pattern on the field and what the possible options are and will act accordingly without much thinking.

The defensive feint is incredibly powerful, as often the advantage goes to the attacker due to uncertainty of where they will go that forces the defender to anticipate. However, the defensive feint shifts the power to a more balanced level between attacker and defender because now the attacker faces the uncertainty of when the defender will actually make a tackle, so that power shift can make a real difference over the entire 90 min as the attacker becomes more weary and maybe less aggressive offensively than they would have otherwise.

I really think this will help amateur players more than all their usual trainings. Maybe most people think they haven't the physicall level of a pro. having solid technique is not everything, and i have seen a lot of amateur level players rely on that while not improving their IQ in game. These players fall short of progressing beyond the amateur level. At the semi-pro level it's assumed players will be able to control the ball, and so the difference there is how they collaborate with their teammates to create a functioning attack or a cohesive defense. I cannot speak about the pro level.. i cannot imagine how difficult the competition is at that level.
