When I was in the US Army, I saw propaganda every day, after leaving, I see it everywhere now, in our stores, parks, advertisements, streets, people and news. People are not left to think for themselves, with the internet now, no where is free.

@Totalinternalreflection 3 күн бұрын
@Oliviaaa1026 in the UK there is always a display cabinate or shelving displaying the tabloid news papers so everyone walking past gets those toxic headlines implanted into their minds even if they never actually buy them. That's not the only thing though. For example products selling you a lifestyle rather than just the product itself are engaging in a form of proganda, and products heavily decorated with claims of being "natural" or playing on the increasingly nationalistic zeitgeist by being covered in the national flag are all forms of propaganda. They're all designed to make you think a certain way with the only real goal being consume more. This video does actually explain how it came to be that way in the west rather well.
@UsaraDark
@UsaraDark 3 күн бұрын
@@Oliviaaa1026 A lot of consumer products are developed to take advantage of psychological factors and inherit bias. Think about gendered goods, let's say shampoo. Is the hair of woman or men really that different? Do you really need to buy that gendered shampoo whose container is a fitting color of your gender? iirc, baseline hygiene products for woman are on average much more expensive than men's simply because of social dynamics. There's nothing stopping woman from going for the cheaper men's products, but they don't gravitate towards them, they gravitate towards the section specifically labeled "for woman". Now is this specific example a bad thing, probably no. It would perhaps be better to advertise "short hair" and "medium-long hair", but general store is going to advertise products like that.
@jenduck5520
@jenduck5520 3 күн бұрын
@@UsaraDark Where I live, men's products are not cheaper but the branding is very manipulative on average. Brands are actively named "dominate" and "uppercut" and "shockwave". Women's are things like "grow gorgeous", "body goals" and "after party". It's a small example but it is across products, just take a look at the names of colognes and perfumes - men overwhelmingly get brands like "invictus victory elixir", "sauvage", "guilty" and "bad boy", women get "sweet tooth", "pretty", "lovely", "beautiful", "fantasy", "good girl" and "sweet like candy". And when these themes recur (and imagine it beyond just gender, but towards other facets of how you should "be" as a human) it slowly affects your psychology and propensity to consume...

Always find videos like this, talking about the manipulation of the masses away from a needs based society to a wants based society because all I can think is, who can afford their wants? The bulk of my funds just go on housing and bills. But then I remember, they're talking about the boomers, not us. It'll be interesting to see what happens with all these companies when no-one can afford their products anymore.
@wdgbirmingham2
@wdgbirmingham2 4 күн бұрын
I read an article just yesterday about a man (a boomer as you say) in Maine who purchased his home in the 90's for around $100,000. He's now retired and living on SS. However, he can't afford the property tax on his home anymore. Apparently in Maine they have a high property tax and his home is "worth" $700,000 now. So even the Boomers are feeling the pinch. No big screen tvs or new cars for him, he couldn't even afford the $7,000 a year property tax on his fixed income. What's worse is he had a very, very modest house. Nothing fancy. So it's not like he can really downsize. The world's just upside down nowadays 😞

@@DamonCassidy Don't be sorry! And congratulations! 🙂 But believe me, I know the feeling of people turning a blind eye all too well. This channel (my own) began in 2005 when YT itself was brand new. For decades, I kept it simple, and I *NEVER* had a lot of money, manpower, nor resources. Still, I gained quite a decent audience, community, and camaraderie. But once Gargle took over, ~boom~... that was it. ☠️ I had no chance, and I'm even less fortunate now. And also, even my award-winning series of books (on a different, newer channel from 2020) is literally and purposely ghosted, "invisibilized", and deliberately nerfed. Nothin' I can do about it. Ya need coin, connections, crews, clout, computer code, control, corporate communities, and opulent opportunities in order to prosper! No exceptions. Without 'em, there's just too many folks who DO have the resources with whom you cannot compete. There's no standing alongside anyone who is wealthier and more marketed; it's impossible. But I've accepted it now that I'm old, heheh! 💪😎✌️ Cheers all the same, and enjoy your work. 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨ "Before I start, I must see my end. Destination known, my mind's journey now begins. Upon my chariot, heart and soul's fate revealed. In time, all points converge; hope's strength, resteeled. Before watching this I'd just like to say, I used to argue a lot on the internet. Sometimes I would bring up propaganda in different contexts, and the response was always the same: that it doesn't count as propaganda unless it's related to war. I'm so disappointed in the general public and people's capacity to think for themselves. It truly diminishes any hope I could have for a free and civil future. Edit: After watching I'll say that I've been disillusioned with the establishment for some years now. I started meditation recently in hopes of changing my perspective and find peace in the chaos. It's content like this that makes more comformable by the day with the idea that a revolution is coming. Even as I watched this inundated with 4 sets of ads feeling nothing but rage towards the machine, there's a sense of hope that the masses will reach a critical tipping point. I look forward to your next.

You only have to see the way certain products are advertised with a big emphasis on labels and names which are claimed to confer a certain aura of wealth and status on their users. This is a form of magical thinking which would be more at home in Medieval times than in in the 21st century. Persons with real wealth seldom indulge in such consuming of named or designer products and just buy what they need and use a generic product of a medium quality in their daily lives, they do not have to prove anything to anybody. As a 66 yr old man it amuses me when I see people in public lives with immense wealth and power going about in public with jeans and t-shirts while their underlings still wear the traditional suit and tie.

What we face today is unfortunately even more extreme due to the manipulation of history itself with internet censorship and AI manipulation. Absolutely, it’s only getting worse. The best way to combat it would be if we actually had leaders that could rally people together and use their voices for the common good but that won’t happen so I do think we all just need to do what we can to break free from this sickness and hopefully build a community of individuals that believe similarly to you. Things are fixing to get a lot worse but I hope that we will learn from it and create stronger individuals coming out of it. Really glad you enjoyed it! I think this is a massive issue with multiple smaller solutions that can compound into actually making a difference. I think farming like that is a great solution, as it will provide freedom to those that participate but will also lead to conversations about the importance of healthy foods, self sufficiency, independent thinking and so on. Once we can get away from this popularity of “get the bag at all cost and buy garbage you don’t need to impress those you don’t care about” and replace it with the riches of an authentic community driven life things will change.
