How Putin’s rule will end - as Russia collapses around him | Defence in Depth

Putin, of course, doesn’t care how many people die for his cause at the front. But he will care when those bodies either aren’t replaced with new soldiers or when the effect of those additional people ‘choosing’ to be in Ukraine, is felt by them not working or spending at home.
Signs of the system struggling to cope are there if you know where to look. A shopping mall in Izhevsk has been converted into a weapons factory; bakers are quitting bread production because they’ve been told to make drones; office workers are asked to ‘volunteer’ to work in munitions factories after work. AvtoVaz, a carmarker, and Ozen, Russia’s Amazon, are employing prisoners.
It all adds up to domestic trouble.

Because 2.2% growth doesn't outpace 30% inflation. Just over the last year the Ruble lost 30% value against not only the Euro and US Dollar, but against the Chinese Yuan and Indian Rupee as well. So whatever Russia doesn't manufacture domestically has gotten at least 30% more expensive to import. And whatever they do still export has gotten 30% less valuable to export.

@Deadpoolion
@Deadpoolion 6 ай бұрын
Exchange rates and inflation are not the same thing. The ruble exchange rate is the most speculative in the world, there is no point in relying on it. Even in years of peace, inflation was 14-16%; wages in Russia are growing just as quickly. No one goes on strike for a 5-10% increase in 3 years like in England or the USA. The low percentage of unemployed in Russia means employers are constantly fighting for each worker. The trade balance in Russia has been very positive for many years, which means there is a lot of money inside, so prices on the market for mass goods can be easily regulated by eliminating duties and introducing subsidies when necessary. @@fermitupoupon1754

The discourse surrounding the conflict is rife with contrasting narratives-some assert that Russia is on the cusp of victory or has already claimed it, while others contend that Ukraine is prevailing and that President Putin's grip on Russia is loosening. However, both perspectives seem to be steeped in their own biases. My observations are anchored in the shifts, or rather the lack thereof, on the ground as reflected by the current stalemate on the map. In my view, the fall of Kyiv would signal a decisive Russian victory, whereas a complete withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukrainian territory would undeniably mark their defeat. Until such time, everything else appears to be speculative noise, contributing little to the understanding of the conflict's trajectory.

Completely agree, and the few likes on your comment further underline the truth behind your reserved analysis. Yet there are some fundamental forces that point in one direction: Russia's war effort is improving, Ukraine's is in decline. Men are openly avoiding conscription, Russia just increased it's military by another 170 000. The Russian war machine is running 24/7 shell production outnumbers European and American production COMBINED. They are building a new factory to produce a cheaper version of the shahed loitering drone in Tatarstan. Political division is slowing down aid from the US, Germany's debt ceiling stops the Bundestag from spending on this war without limits. Europe wants to buy cheap Russian energy, their economies are reciding, certain eastern European governments are openly demanding peace,(Hungary, Slovakia) Hungary is blocking an EU funded aid package. the Bulgarian president recently vetoed arms supply to Ukraine. In the meantime Russia cracked down on all dissent, strengthened security forces, moved to a 'hard authoritarian' governance approach.
