@@nancychartrand7808 From what I have read and heard, she wasn't a very good mother either. One of her daughters lost a son as a toddler. Instead of trying to comfort her daughter, she told her that the loss of her son was not as difficult as the loss she herself sufferred when Albert died. Nevermind that her daughter had also lost Albert as a father. IMO, she was a selfish, self centered woman. However, the children, especially her daughters, had a close and loving relationship with their father.

Victoria was also buried wearing the wedding ring of John Brown's mother. This was hidden so that her children would not know. She was also buried with a plaster cast of Prince Albert's hand, which she had treasured since his death. Her private physician was entrusted with a very long list of things Victoria wanted in her coffin, so he ensured that they were in place just moments before the coffin was sealed and out of sight of the children (who would undoubtedly disapprove).

Imo, Victoria was so beautiful as a younger woman. The many pregnancies & losses she had in her life, especially her husband, Albert; I think just did her in. I heard somewhere that she " comfort " ate. Noone can blame her, there were no grief therapists & this was her coping mechanism. 🇬🇧👑
@chooseyourpoison5105

I don't know if I'd describe her as beautiful, but she was reasonably pretty as a young woman. She had large blue eyes, long light brown hair, and a pink and white complexion. She was also a good horsewoman and a graceful dancer. She didn't start to really gain weight until after baby number three, and then she piled it on with all her comfort eating after the death of Albert. I mean, her cooks named Victoria Sponge (sponge cake with jam and cream) after her because she had a slice for afternoon tea every day. Same with Queen Pudding (dense yellow pudding with jam and a meringue topping) because it was her favourite. That's quite a big clue about her post-Albert diet.

@Selma De Faria I agree. I don't really see Queen Victoria in Princess Beatrice. Not even in the eyes. Both have/had prominent eyes, but Beatrice's eyes are startling to the point of looking unreal. Queen Victoria's weren't so staring. And Victoria had a much rounder face than Beatrice. I think that Victoria looked reasonably attractive in her younger years. She didn't even look that bad in her old age, when you look at other women of the same age who haven't had plastic surgery. When you find out a bit about Prince Albert, he was a man ahead of his time, especially when it came to his children and their education. It must have been a sad blow for them when he died.

People judging her looks like they’ve never questioned their own looks or have had others question their looks. The world would truly be a better place if we all didn’t place so much importance on our looks. Trust me, even as a young person, I’ve learned that looks don’t amount to shit if we don’t let them. I don’t care how good looking a person is, if they are a complete trash bag of a person they’re out of my life. Plus I believe we should never tie a persons looks to their character or personhood. I never let my actions be impacted by a persons looks. Whatever our first thought about a persons body may be, we’re only thinking it because society has conditioned us to think it. Our second thought and our action afterwards is what truly matters. And don’t come at me with sh*t like it’s just the way society is, we can’t change how much importance we place on it, because we can, individually at the very least. If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say it, and atleast act with empathy when you can.

I dunno - I actually feel sorry for the Duchess of Kent. I mean, she no sooner arrived in England than her husband up and died, and Victoire found herself stuck in a foreign country with an eight month old baby, where she knew no one, barely spoke the language (she spoke so little English that her wedding vows had to be put into phonetics for her so she could say them) and saddled with her husband's enormous debts. Conroy saw his chance, and like a true manipulative narcissist, he took it. The Duchess regretted her actions later on in life, writing in her journal "I blame myself that I was so blind and so inactive." She was reconciled somewhat with Victoria towards the end of her life. Victoria, in turn, had a nervous breakdown after the Duchess' death, when she read her mother's journals and realised just how much her mother had loved her. All those wasted years . . . it's just a terribly sad, tragic story.

Amazing info in the narration! Loved it, the whole era -.even named after her - an absorbing time to regard. You may forgive me, I hope, if I say, You made her look a little bit prettier than I think she was. The painters didn't keep putting it in there over and over for nothing though. Bet they were toning down her realness, like most royal portraits. I have a love hate relationship with Queen Vic ... So I personally would leave the eagle-like bump in the nose, showing more gradually earlier, but you are so good at giving modern makeovers! The right make-up artist, some shading and yeah, she could pull that off. Warts and all, a choice, it's a personal choice, being artsy myself, in more old-school methods. Paper, pencil, paint etc mostly sketch, and I really am not that good ... But I have the picture, the goal always forming, getting clearer in my head ... you too ... and the Muse ... 👵👍😊💯

Massive respect for this monarch. She transformed Britain and made it a powerhouse, a mighty foe and a world leader that transformed the world. Sure it was done off the backs of the British but truthfully this monarch really did care for her people. It's well noted on many occasions that she involved herself deeply when trouble hit such as mining disasters. Events such as The Hartley Pit Disaster saw her not just request constant news updates but also creating and helping fund a disaster fund for those affected by the event. I doubt we'll ever see such a mighty monarch again. She recognised her countries ability and utilised it to its greatest effect.

Interesting video. I couldn’t get over how accurate your video was. You should look at current pictures of Queen Elizabeth’s grand daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. You will see the likeness to Queen Victoria, especially around the eyes. Most of the other royals favour their grandparents, Elizabeth & Phillip around the eyes. Queen Victoria’s eyes were quite full and open and have been passed through 5 generations in Beatrice and Eugenie. Thank you sally💕🇬🇧💕

Contrary to what most people believe. Queen Victoria wasn’t a very good Queen. She just wasn’t interested. And not to mention the fact that when Albert died young she almost completely stopped functioning properly as a Queen. She had good wise rules tho. She NEVER dined with the middle and upper classes. Becos she absolutely knew that they only wanted to do that so they could influence her to get what they wanted. Or find out secrets they could utilise.

Victoria was a sad woman who struggled with the misery resulting from the loss of several loved ones. Life does not treat people well sometimes, even if they are monarchs. By the time she died, though she was surrounded by numerous loved ones, she was truly devastated. I feel so sorry.

In her youth, Victoria was a very tiny, unattractive woman. On canvas, all of the artists created an image of her which would appeal to her vanity. As an old lady, Victoria was continually portrayed as an attractive lady.

Good video. Keep in mind that she didn't wear makeup like we do today. If she wore makeup like we do today, she would look like what we consider attractive. For her time where not many wore makeup, she was attractive. Our expectations of beauty today have gone up because we're used to seeing people in real life and on TV with a ton of makeup on, fake eye lashes, lipstick, fancy hairstyle etc. Same with weight. She was never a skinny emaciated looking woman like models are today, so to us she would look plump. Her real weight gain didn't happen till later in middle age after Albert died.
