Victoria was also buried wearing the wedding ring of John Brown's mother. This was hidden so that her children would not know. She was also buried with a plaster cast of Prince Albert's hand, which she had treasured since his death. Her private physician was entrusted with a very long list of things Victoria wanted in her coffin, so he ensured that they were in place just moments before the coffin was sealed and out of sight of the children (who would undoubtedly disapprove).

Imo, Victoria was so beautiful as a younger woman. The many pregnancies & losses she had in her life, especially her husband, Albert; I think just did her in. I heard somewhere that she " comfort " ate. Noone can blame her, there were no grief therapists & this was her coping mechanism. 🇬🇧👑
@chooseyourpoison51052 жыл бұрын
I don't know if I'd describe her as beautiful, but she was reasonably pretty as a young woman. She had large blue eyes, long light brown hair, and a pink and white complexion. She was also a good horsewoman and a graceful dancer. She didn't start to really gain weight until after baby number three, and then she piled it on with all her comfort eating after the death of Albert. I mean, her cooks named Victoria Sponge (sponge cake with jam and cream) after her because she had a slice for afternoon tea every day. Same with Queen Pudding (dense yellow pudding with jam and a meringue topping) because it was her favourite. That's quite a big clue about her post-Albert diet.

She didn't even look that bad in her old age, when you look at other women of the same age who haven't had plastic surgery. People judging her looks like they’ve never questioned their own looks or have had others question their looks. The world would truly be a better place if we all didn’t place so much importance on our looks. Trust me, even as a young person, I’ve learned that looks don’t amount to shit if we don’t let them. I don’t care how good looking a person is, if they are a complete trash bag of a person they’re out of my life. Plus I believe we should never tie a persons looks to their character or personhood. I never let my actions be impacted by a persons looks. Whatever our first thought about a persons body may be, we’re only thinking it because society has conditioned us to think it. Our second thought and our action afterwards is what truly matters. And don’t come at me with sh*t like it’s just the way society is, we can’t change how much importance we place on it, because we can, individually at the very least. If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say it, and atleast act with empathy when you can.

I dunno - I actually feel sorry for the Duchess of Kent. I mean, she no sooner arrived in England than her husband up and died, and Victoire found herself stuck in a foreign country with an eight month old baby, where she knew no one, barely spoke the language (she spoke so little English that her wedding vows had to be put into phonetics for her so she could say them) and saddled with her husband's enormous debts. Conroy saw his chance, and like a true manipulative narcissist, he took it. The Duchess regretted her actions later on in life, writing in her journal "I blame myself that I was so blind and so inactive." She was reconciled somewhat with Victoria towards the end of her life. Victoria, in turn, had a nervous breakdown after the Duchess' death, when she read her mother's journals and realised just how much her mother had loved her. All those wasted years . . . it's just a terribly sad, tragic story.

Sure it was done off the backs of the British but truthfully this monarch really did care for her people. It's well noted on many occasions that she involved herself deeply when trouble hit such as mining disasters. Events such as The Hartley Pit Disaster saw her not just request constant news updates but also creating and helping fund a disaster fund for those affected by the event. I doubt we'll ever see such a mighty monarch again. She recognised her countries ability and utilised it to its greatest effect.

Victoria was a sad woman who struggled with the misery resulting from the loss of several loved ones. Life does not treat people well sometimes, even if they are monarchs. By the time she died, though she was surrounded by numerous loved ones, she was truly devastated. I feel so sorry.

She was not unhappy and miserable her entire life. She had many happy times too.

@@zzzbbbooo yeah but losing a loved one is a devastating, tragic experience and she witnessed the sad deaths of many loved ones. She must have felt really heartbroken so many times.

In her youth, Victoria was a very tiny, unattractive woman. On canvas, all of the artists created an image of her which would appeal to her vanity. As an old lady, Victoria was continually portrayed as an attractive lady.

Pretty impressive work. If only this wonderful technique could be used to turn on young students minds to History!

Good video. Keep in mind that she didn't wear makeup like we do today. If she wore makeup like we do today, she would look like what we consider attractive. For her time where not many wore makeup, she was attractive. Our expectations of beauty today have gone up because we're used to seeing people in real life and on TV with a ton of makeup on, fake eye lashes, lipstick, fancy hairstyle etc. Same with weight. She was never a skinny emaciated looking woman like models are today, so to us she would look plump. Her real weight gain didn't happen till later in middle age after Albert died.

In the famous portrait of her, she looks like a white skin Polynesian. I was always confused as to why she was though of as white.

Hi! I love your channel and I'm a new subscriber. I'd love for you to animate the Princes in the Tower, using the portraits projected to look like them! That whole era of English history was creepy anyway, but in a fascinating, attractive sort of way. THANK you!

I recently saw a video that inferred that he had Crohn's Disease. Poor guy, he did seem like a true blue, hard working man.
