My takeaway: it’s best to own a car/crossover/van that gets decent gas mileage (30+ mpg) for road trips and also own an EV for daily use. OR just get a hybrid that gets good gas mileage and you don’t have to worry about finding charging stations.

When the range gets to the 500 mile mark, I’m all in. With that kind of range in south Texas, I’m confident in being able to make a round trip out of town to Houston or San Antonio without the inconvenience of hunting for charging stations. Most of my driving will be 100-200 mile round trips to different towns but being able to drive from let’s say, Corpus Christi to San Antonio, drive around town and then back to Corpus Christi without needing to charge till you got home would be everything. Being able to avoid charging stations 90+% of the time by charging at home would make life so much easier (convenient).

Do any of you "the future is electric" fan boys realize that the US and State governments are going to tax your electric use when they complete this illegal, forced, get rid of gasoline/diesel vehicles coup? Do you really think that our government is going to give up its gasoline taxes and fees cash cow or lower the current rate of tax income, when all of you are talking about how much more cost effective EVs are in comparison? Where do you think the electricity is coming from, or is going to come from in the future? Unless some Star Trek innovation comes along, or we start building nuclear plants, where do you think all this additional electricity is going to come from? You are all being lied to...btw, I am not against EVs; I wish the current leftist administration would stay the hell out of the market. The best solution is to expand the hybrid market which yields the best solution to efficient energy use and gas/EV milage. And btw, there is no global warming.

@@richardkrueger9097 3 to 6 min charge takes more than Battery Technology to do that. Even with the current 350kWh Chargers running at full capacity for the total 131 kilowatt hour battery would take 23 minutes if the system could actually do that. We would need Chargers around 1,000kWh to do this and that's not possible with any of the current technology they have today. It will be many years before we can ever see a 6-minute full charge on an EV with a capacity of this truck. When batteries are being filled up in capacity the voltages rise while energy is being pushed into them, the computer thinks that the battery is getting close to charge so it has to throttle back the current coming into the battery pack, this is why some of these cars take almost an hour to charge the last 10% of the battery capacity. This truck is for today and selling out. It's going to be another 5 to 10 years before there's a major change in Battery Technology in EVs to take better advantage of the charging that we currently have.

I’m calling BULLSHXT. If they wanted to put an actual charger port with a operating door there, the dummy panel would _inevitably_ have to be switched out with a functioning one. Body panels are pennies to Ford either way, they weren’t being proactive for a oversees F150. They should’ve just gone ahead and offered dual charging ports. Seems like Ford has the right idea when it comes to rating specs on their electric vehicles. Lots of people easily getting & exceeding the rated range of the Mach-E, now the F150 getting faster charging speeds than originally advertised. Definitely a smart move, makes people more happy to see a vehicle exceed expectations vs not meet the advertised expectations, and I'm sure the specs they release are way more "real world" than the specs other manufacturers release, like Tesla.

I like this truck, but can we please get off the narrative of “you gonna eat while you charge” as justification for the long refueling stops. Nobody eats a full meal EVERY time they stop for fuel (gas or electric). For those of us that care about our health…we don’t eat meals at fuel stations and fast food joints anyway. Let’s just accept that in current times, you are going to spend a LOT of extra time waiting to refuel an EV. There’s no way around that fact with current technology and infrastructure. That’s just part of the price you pay when choosing to embrace this lifestyle.

Here are two tips available on many new F150s - TAILGATE, just bump the gate up about 2 to 4" and it will automatically grab it and raise/close the rest of the way (think of how you swoop your leg behind some SUVs and the gate automatically goes down) - you can actually use your leg and quickly left and let go ... very cool. Within the settings there is a "Hold" option, so you get to a red light and as after you come to a complete stop the brake will hold and you can take you foot off the pedal (BMW and Mercedes have similar) - when ready to go gently touch the accelerator and you will feel the brake release (no sudden jerking that way) - there is a small green light on the dash that shows it in operation.

So 63% battery to 90% charge in approximate 32min to give 71 miles of range back into the battery, about 2.2 miles per minute of charging. Around 35.4kWh at 2 miles per kWh. (63% to 90%) At the beginning of the video, 50% to 63% was about 7min of charging to get 34 ish miles of range. Charging around 4.9miles per minute.

@@LafemmebearMusic the math doesn't change it would be a new calculation of 66% capacity charge if you want that math. People are generally getting 1.6-1.8 miles/kWh on the highway at 70+, and 2.2-3.2 miles kWh in the cities. The cost for DC fast charging is generally 35 cents/kWh. 27% of a 131kWh battery, which is ~35kW * $0.35 = $12.38 (63% to 90%) Charging from 15% to 100% should be about $39 At home charging would be around $11-$25 (depends on rate, this is 10 cents/kWh to 25 cents/kWh) (I pay $60 to go the same distance in my '06 F-150 5.4L)
@trullmann
@trullmann 2 жыл бұрын
The national average for "cars" at highway speeds is 2.6 to 2.8 miles per kWh. This truck saw 2.0 miles per kWh so that's pretty dang good and better than my original guess of 1.8-1.9m/kWh the fastest way to calculate costs is take price per kWh / miles per kWh. This charger was 43 cents per kWh + tax, so about 43.8c per kWh / 2 = 21.9c per mile to operate. My 2011 Raptor gets about 15.5+ mpg at highway speeds at $4.29g = 27.7c per mile (at current inflated fuel costs). 2 years ago, I paid $1.97 for premium averaging 16.5mpg that week, giving right around 11.9c per mile to operate. Slower speeds I can get 18-19mpg so about 10.6c per mile at the wonderful $1.97g a few years back. Charging stations are starting to charge more as electric prices rise, and also extra taxes are about to be added. I think Cali has started adding new taxes at electric charging stations to help cover "road tax". some charging stations are up to 53c + tax per kWh. Some countries have a hook up fee that I think is like a road tax. Some of those fees are up to $2.00 per charge session. All these fuel source price increases are dumb to drive cars and trucks. I'm going to buy one of these electric Fords not to save money more for fun with my RC collection, just wish they had the range of my Raptor. I see between 550 to 680+ miles per tank, about 480 miles if I keep my foot in it all the time. I almost bought the Ford Mach-e 2 years back for my 110-mile daily commute (job offer) that was going to cost about 5.5c per mile charging at home vs at that time of 10.6-11.9c per mile in my Raptor, not for the savings but the miles not put on my truck.

@@trullmann Total ownership costs on my 2006 F-150 XLT 5.4L is 29.1 cents/mile (14.6 cents/mile for running costs) according to the Feully app. I get between 14.5-15.5mpg on my truck, and I fill up at 1/4 tank, so I go around 250-260 miles. (I have a 27 gallon tank). I don't tow much (three times in 16 years, towing more than 1500 pounds), so it doesn't bother me that the SR Lightning goes 230 miles. If I could afford it, I'd buy the ER Lightning. I generally drive less than 5 miles a day, and go to my parents house once a month (220 mile round trip). There are no fast charge stations along US-287 between DFW and Amarillo, TX, so I'd just use the mobile charger at my parents house. I don't plan on buying the Lightning until end of 2023 or 2024.

@@jghall00 No. Because EV trucks are mainly good for local driving and not cross country driving and especially heavy towing. EV trucks are not good for a lot of uses, like a lot of truck work. Most of these 'reviews' fail to show the downsides of these new EV trucks and when you should really look at gas or diesel powered trucks. 100% of truck driving isn't to your local Home Depot, either. Yeah, they can't do that. No one ever says: I can't tow my camper long distance, but it's great for my landscape business. Not every vehicle needs to do every thing. I have a Focus Electic and an Expedition. If I need more than 4 seats or am towing my camper, I use the Expedition. When I don't, I use the Focus.
