I lived in Hawaii for about three years. The people of Hawaii and culture are amazing. I would hear from people over there regarding why Hawaii leaned so far left as them having a "plantation mentality," meaning the plantation owner, which is now the the government, would take care of everyone's need. what a lot of people get wrong on "money" for Ukraine (Joe included) is that a vast amount of the spending is actually on already bought by the US military gear. For example we are sending 100's of 30 year old bradleys to Ukraine and it is charged the actual price the government spent even though they are really old. Hey Mr. Rogan.....my daughter, her three children the youngest a year old and myself live in Eastern Tennessee. Our home got flood due to the rain and Hurricane Helene. So my daughter put in the application to FEMA for funds to make the repairs. She was approved for $700. Then we find out a woman she knows down in Florida who doesn't even have a home to live in put an application in to FEMA and received over $5000, her last name being Latino. We should have put the application in my name, my last name being Latino, maybe we would have gotten more instead of my daughter's Irish name.

@DeltaDanner i believe in the doctrine of personal responsibility. If you live in an area with tornados you should install impact windows etc. You do maintenance on your car so that it keeps running. If it breaks down you don't blame the govt or insurance companies for your incompetence. State preparedness in Tennessee is weak sauce. Florida power and light has a bunch of trucks for hurricane response, to reinstate power throughout the state after a hurricane. This state doesn't have plows or salts the roads in a lot of areas. Electrical posts are wooden posts that are over 70 years old. Why aren't the army core of engineers reviewing a lot of these dams. If you're paying for services like electricity and water, there should be an emergency plan to reinstate these services quickly. Building code here is designed for cheap housing, but that needs to be upgraded. A roof flying off a house does damage to other properties. A lot of things need to be addressed, but playing the woe is me card for handouts from the federal govt is stupid... In my opinion.

I was staying at the kaanapali alii on aug 8th the date of the fire. The stories and pictures i have from that experience still boggle my mind. That was my first time visiting hawaii as well. I will never forget it. Rest in peace to all the victims that passed.

i live in hawaii, oahu to be specific. not only did the rest of the world move on from the maui tragedy, but our own people as well. the media doesn't do a good job of covering what is actually going on or what actually went down on Maui. i guess you could say that not a lot of people actually looked into it as well, but either way its crazy. I'm still learning about the water rights that are being fought for over there, its CRAZY!

I lived and partied HARD in Lahaina for exactly one year, 1998, and in that time I lived in 5 separate residences and worked 6 jobs, had an absolute blast, loved all of it! I never went back but EVERY place I lived at and worked at were burned down in the fire. Thankfully, nobody I knew got hurt or displaced( they had all moved upcountry or to Kaanapaali over the years). I've never lived anywhere else in my life that has been destroyed like that. It was so sad for the lovely people there and for that sacred place. It also brought back a flood of memories that hadn't occurred to me in 25 years...I thought I'd forgotten some stuff forever due to time and partying...
