@Ivegotbugsflyfishing it probably won't sell. Just seeing if anybody might want it. Like to get in a smaller boat. That's the last thing between me and debt free.

I have similar size pond but only 2.5ft deep. There are about 24 rosy red minnows, spawning hundreds right now. But the problem is most of them got eaten by the tilapia. The largest tilapia I have is about 7 inches, what is the largest you have in this pond? It amazes me that they can get along. I also have prawns in the same pond that seems to eat tilapia. Daily floating pellets, some fruit peels, and carrot peels, but no grass cutting like you described.
@Ivegotbugsflyfishing5 ай бұрын
i actually dont have tilapia at the moment, i harvested them and then last year i injured myself pretty bad and had three surgeries and a complete knee replacement. So i didnt really have the ability to do extra projects. I am going to restock next season. But at the time of harvest i had several that were 10 inches plus. Im sure they ate several of the rosy reds, but not enough to compete with the amount of reproduction that the rosy reds do.

I have rosy reds! We are turning our pool into a pond and I got them so our frogs would eat them instead of our goldfish. Wanted to know how to make it easier for them to spawn since a pool has smooth sides with no hiding places. I do have many floating planters with lots of hanging roots so maybe that's enough. Thanks for your videos!

If you have plants that are going in the water especially native species that can sometimes be rooted in the resivior as well as the soil around the structure, well that's natured natural air stone

i actually planted some water plants in there yesterday after reading your post. Thanks, thats a great idea, probably will help with water clarity as well.

Whats best minnows to raise to sell for $ ? Flat head or red minnows?
@Ivegotbugsflyfishing4 ай бұрын
I think that would depend on location and state laws. I actually think rosey reds are an offspring of fat head minnows.

I'm not sure how cold they can handle. They over winter here in Oklahoma just fine. But we rarely get below zero. And if we do get below zero it's not for very long. Very seldom do we get to single digit weather here.

@@Ivegotbugsflyfishing oh ok thank you so much! I am in North East GA. We get below zero sometimes. Haha. Windchill especially. When I can afford a big container plus the fish, I am going to try it. Sick of not having bait when I need it. And that is often lol.

Better be careful and check your local laws. Being as they are a variant of a native species, they may be illegal to use as bait and keep in an outdoor pond. I'm not 100% on the minnows, but comet goldfish are highly illegal for those exact reasons and game wardens love to nail you with HUGE fines for doing so.
