The list of recallls and issues you found are not minor. They're major quality issues, imo. And the mileage you have is not as much yet. Wait till you have 50k or 100K even just like most of the Japanese cars that you don't see the same issues as what you have at 35k.

I don't know how deep Mr. Edmunds' pockets are...but a long term fleet of option for option 1/4 ton diesel pick ups from Ford, Chevy, and Ram would be interesting to me. Each offers one and I haven't seen any real apples to apples comparos over the long term for any of them.

Old ones are better. 5.7 on new have oil starvation for cams at idle. Design flaw. I had 2006, headers and air box made big difference. New probably wouldn't help because of new computers, would have to tune it. Still didn't like it. Only because the windshield design made me car sick.? Never had a problem with any other car or truck. Even driving, got better after time.

I purchased a 2019 1500 Rebel last September. I have just over 12k miles on it. I've pulled a 30 foot travel trailer from Chicago to the Great Smoky Mountains and back, done some off-roading and it's my daily driver. I have to say, it does all three exceptionally well. This is my first truck and I couldn't be happier with it.

sukhman marwah like any vehicle, you take care of it, it will last. I’ve had four cars in my 40 years of driving. I’ve gotten ten years and 150,000 miles out of all of them. And all were in excellent condition when I traded them in. Because I wash them once a week, detail them twice a year, change the oil every 5k miles, and other major fluids every 30k miles. With that I’ve never had a major repair on any of them.

I've got a 2015 Chrysler 300 that's had a couple recalls. The last one is still waiting on an evap canister from Fiat Chrysler. I bought the car with 6200 miles on it and have had a tire tpms cable repaired under warranty and the trunk emblem repaired under warranty. I've heard horror story after horror story about Fiat Chrysler poor quality and the research shows that they are not as reliable as other brands. But at 36K miles my 300 has performed flawlessly. To me the real quality of a vehicle is not known until you get over 100K miles.

I have a 2016 1500 Hemi - 392 gears. Heres what will happen. You'll get the Hemi tick eventually - its due to the exhaust manifold bolts breaking. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if your fuel pump gives you problems. This will give you a check engine and you wont see and MDS (ECO Mode). I ended up paying for a new fuel pump and FCA took care of me on the tick problem ( told them this issue has been going on for a decade with their hemis, and they paid for it ) - even having 95,000 miles on the truck. Other than that, love my truck.
@sc12100
@sc12100 4 жыл бұрын
@BriceGarrett86 The only thing I can say is that they are using the same HEMI in the new body style. To me, that probably means that FCA hasn't fixed it - however I could also be wrong. The HEMI tick has been around for over ten years. I believe the reason I got my bolts replaced on their dime was due to the fact that I called them out over the phone and told them that they are well aware of this problem. They acknowledged that and paid for it. The Hemi tick is a legitimate design flaw and FCA should put out a recall.

Had a 2015 5.7 Hemi with the tick and thought it was the lifters from an oil flow design flaw. It went away after a few seconds on start up. I also heard it went away because the manifold and heads swell after they warm up and seal smaller leaks.

Best thing on all the Dodge 1500 ram trucks is the pricing. A ford f150, Chevy, GMC, Tundra that is as optioned as this Dodge will cost about 10 grand more on average. I priced a New 2020 Bighorn, non leather, double cab, 4x4 with the v8 hemi for around 35-38k. By contrast the New ford ranger for 4x4, double cab with a 4 cylinder with boost to do anything cost 35k or more. Same for the Tacoma. The full size fords, GMC, Chevy's optioned like the Dodge shown will cost 60-70k. I take care of my maintenance myself I do oil changes every 3k-4k miles. I never let it go longer than that. You will get much better reliability internally. Just my experience in owning used trucks for last 30 yrs. and Towing with AC on is killing your gas mileage.

I own a 2012 I bought from a dealer in 2015 with 33k miles on it. Though its been useful it's also been the most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned over 40 years and probably 30 cars. It now has 94k miles on it in January of 2022. Let's see...all four brake calipers seized at various times, ruining the rotors, calipers and pads. Wheel bearings ruined on 3 out of 4 wheels. Exhaust manifold cracked. Starter, alternator and water pump went at various times. Heater blower fan control went. My favorite? The entore top end of the engine had to be rebuilt due to a commonly known lifter problem- seizing and ruining the cam. Luckily the 6k repair was covered under the CPO warranty. This happened at only 66k miles btw. The truck was never used commercially nor never towed anything. Rear sliding window leaked. There's currently a water leak from under the driver's dashboard when it rains. Rust bubbles are appearing on the passenger front fender- also noted in forums as a common issue due to a sound absorbing mat behind the panel staying wet all the time. Today I see there are rust bubbles forming on the driver's rear wheel well arch. I'm sure there's many more issues I can't remember. For a "truck"- supposedly built "Ram Tough" and only having 94k miles it's had an incredible number of annoying, serious and potentially fatal repairs- none of which I ever experienced on any other car or truck I've owned. I'll never buy another Dodge/Ram product. Total pain in the ass and expensive to own. At last count it had incurred 15k in repairs over the 7 years I've owned it. I paid 33k for it btw in 2015. It also had god knows how many recalls along the way. Other than that, great truck.

Then resets itself. Continually does this randomly. 5x under warranty, they say has to duplicate it,,,, duplicates it right by the road by the dealer!!! Pull in ,, say please don't turn off ,,, verified problem and codes.!!! Well now its was at 38 k, after being at dealer 5x before. I finally had to turn the truck in, lost wages, emotional distress after the power cuts of 5x or more on high way, very dangerous when happens at 70mph... 4 lane highway!!! Incidentally the engine compartment always looked dusty and untouched , even though the dealer claimed , changed cam phasers and sprocket.. Chrysler you made your own karma.. you did not honor your warranty . The power train is supposed to be 5 year, 60k. They practically left me no choice but to turn it in and pay over milage of $2200,, then had the balls to try and sell me another new truck!!!!?????.

Really want an American SUV next (not very happy w/ my current Swedish) but none jump out so considering a truck. Good to know trucks can have a more comfy feel these days. I Have never been a truck owner and don't like sacrificing ride quality and comfort, but looks like I won't have to.

What's wrong with that? At least Ram tests their trucks and fixes their issues even after release. Others would rather not do anything for perceived higher "reliability". Those fixes get put into the newer models. There's a reason Ford and GM get sued so often, they lie. You're truck is completely functional and the recalls aren't even bad. It's mostly just touch ups.

I've had a 2011 Ram 1500 for 5 years now. Exhaust manifold bolts did break, however the truck has been hella good. Bought it at 164k miles and its at 195k now. Honestly the best part of it all is the engine. The hemi is a good engine as long as you replace the valve lifters before they become a problem. Should also note that 2011 had like 1 recall and it was for something minor.

I have a RAM eco diesel 2016, 4x4 and when I bought it in 2016, it was advertised as 29mpg on the highway. I was pleasantly surprised when my truck exceeded that to 32,7mpg on my first trip to practically non-stop trip. But last year state of California((group of lawyers) sued the Dodge and recalled many trucks including mine and after the changes they did the milage dropped drastically, down to 24mpg. Does anyone else has this problem after recalls?

My 2015 Ram 1500 5.7L Lone Star has been pretty good. I bought it new in Dec 2015. It has about 60K miles now. Been to the dealer twice for warranty repairs and a couple recals. Once to replace a bad drivers front wheel bearing. The dealer replaced both for me. Next repair was bad fuel level sending unit. I had a water leak after about a year due to the tradional crappy third brake light seal. Fixed that myself with a better seal. The only other issue I am still having sometimes is when I use the steering wheel controls to scroll through the computer readings it will activate the phone instead. Does not do it all the time. Very Random at most. Gas milage blows away my 2005 Tundra TRD quad cab 4.7L I had. Ram quality has greatly improved since I worked at Dodge as a tech in the early 2000s. Just wish I would have got the 4x4.

The "gremlins" he mentions are synonymous with Chrysler quality. They don't seem like a big deal at 35,000, but will continue to pile up, until the gremlins become real issues that will keep you side lined when you just need to get in your truck and go. I broke from Ford years ago and tried a Dodge. I also experienced way too many gremlins for my taste. On top of all the annoying gremlins, some of which required trips to the dealer and a rental car, right near the end of the warranty I had a transmission problem, and then when the warranty was up the A/C evaporator core gave up the ghost and flooded the passenger side interior. Bye-bye Dodge. I currently own a 2013 F150, 3.5 Ecoboost. Eight years into it and it hasn't seen the inside of a shop except for maintenance. I change the oil myself with Mobil 1, and the plugs/coil boots. I still have the OEM headlights, brake lights, marker lights. Every time I get into it I just know it's going to go where I need and do what I need it to do with no complaints. Every time I cranked up that Dodge I'd keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. I guess they haven't changed much.

Reviewing new cars with an eye towards ownership and reliability is a tough balancing act because you want to get the information out but you also need time to rack up the miles. We've settled on roughly a year of ownership as a measuring stick that tries to satisfy both needs. We also try to put a minimum of 20,000 miles on each vehicle we test in that period, which is more than the national average.

Alan Bowers Not new, no. I don’t see it fit to refer to 1.5 years ownership, 35k mi, and car mags using it as they claim, as a long term or a test of reliability. Just stating what I thought when I read this misleading title. I think the Ram 1500 is a good truck, I think it would’ve been better to provide information like how they (hopefully) have fixed the lifters issue that affected older models or given high praise to the 8-speed ZF trans that makes driving this truck a dream, even compared to the modern competition.

So, your transfer case didn't need to be replaced every 7,000ish miles, all of the injectors didn't have to be replaced, your radiator hose/pump didn't develop sludge (under 35,000) and have to be completely replaced, you didn't have various shorts and bulbs repeatedly go out, your rear camera fail twice under 40,000, the electrical harness get caught on WEEDS on your first trip into a field for a job and leave you stranded for 10+ hours during the construction season and then have to pay for rentals cars? I must have gotten a lemon...but that's not what the crooks that deal with Lemon Law said. Mopar = the new TP. I'd rather buy a Kia.
