How Rihanna Became the Queen of the Met Gala

The first Monday In may is reserved for fashion’s biggest night. A List celebrities gather at the Metropolitan Museum for a night of charity and fashion. The Met carpet is the chance to be daring, and take fashion risks one might not normally take on a traditional red carpet. Fans hope to see their favorite celebrities in iconic looks, and many flock to social media to share their opinions live. Fans especially hope to see Rihanna, as she wows every time she arrives. Stunning in designers from Stella McCartney, to Margiela, to Balenciaga, Rihanna shows time and time again through her Met looks that fashion is art. Her big Met breakout was her Guo Pei look for 2015's China: Through the Looking Glass event. Since she's pregnant, Rihanna likely won't be at Monday's Met. So in her honor, let's take a look at how Rihanna became the queen of the Met Gala!

Rhianna is so effortless. She doesn’t try hard to be the centre of attention. She just is. She always looks so great at the Met. Ever since Kim got with Kanye, he was her introduction into the fashion world and to me, she seems to desperate to be accepted and respected in the fashion industry. Since her first time at the MET with Kanye she has gone EVERY year. Most celebs don’t turn up yearly but Kim does. She wants to be always be the talk of the gala and what’s to be seen as an fashion icon. Rhianna doesn’t show up yearly but when she does make an appearance, all eyes are on her. 😍

I was really ready for like some 90s black culture inspired looks like Lil Kim/ Foxy Brown type fashion, or some “ghetto fabulous looks”. I also expected some looks that were Influenced by Latinx- American culture. It would’ve even been fun to see people do a take on that preppy New England aesthetic. Or even decade looks like a 60s/ 70s vibe. It would’ve been cool to see someone in like a Black Panther outfit, or some fringe/ jumpsuits to represent that era. There was no Disco representation, which could’ve been such a fun moment. It was kind of boring to see everyone go for Old Hollywood looks. The only one I enjoyed was Yara Shadidi’s. I just found it to be such a boring representation of American fashion when we have so many diverse looks. I could go on and on forever about how uncreative this last met was

I think for the first few years you're missing the fact that she was a guest of a designer, which mean she's going to wear the designers clothes. 2015 she was the performer and could wear what she wanted, following that she was already the GOAT so she continues to wear what she wants, to the point that she wouldn't make a year and they made a statue of her.
