Truly sad. As a Yankees fan I LOVED Robbie Cano, especially since he was a new spark on that aging team. It’s upsetting how he fumbled all of that…and for what reason? He’d have gone down as the best 2nd baseman of his generation without juicing. Great vid man. Keep it up.

Don Mattingly was basically my favorite player as a kid and I saw Cano as the second coming of Mattingly. Hit the ball with authority wherever it was pitched, sprayed the ball around, had plenty of power but wasn't a power hitter, and of course, just flawless in the field. Smooth and just preternaturally confident out there. It was incredible to watch him develop and blossom. One of the sweetest swings you'll ever see. And those hands. My God, what quick hands. And he was one of the best defensive players I've ever seen. If the ball was hit anywhere even remotely in his vicinity he was going to convert it to an out. So smooth and so reliable. God that man could play baseball.

Really solid video; I’m a lifelong Yankees fan and Cano has always been one of my personal favorite players since he came up. To be honest, I watched Cano for years in New York and the way he made certain difficult plays seem so nonchalant and easy was amazing to see and he’s a HOF player in my mind regardless of the failed PED tests. The man was a fantastic baseball player who -for a few years- was a Top 10 player in the game, in my opinion. Fantastic defensive player with a really solid arm and his swing became taylor made for the new Yankee Stadium. He was one of my favorite players to watch for years and I was really ticked off when the Yankees didn’t resign him; but I didn’t blame him at all for taking the extra money. Sadly, I knew going to Seattle and signing a 10 year contract there was going to end badly for him & his career (he should have just stayed with the Yankees but Arods contract situation made them gun shy-reasonably so-to sign another 30 year old player to such a long deal). Great player and a HOF player regardless of the fact that the last few years of his career have been very forgettable. Still wear my Robby Cano Yankees shirt with pride!!

the cano era for the mariners was the most significant throughout my childhood. But there were at least three or four different instances which lead me to believe robinson cano hated me. once i was at spring training with a friend and he signed an autograph for every kid but me, once he was throwing balls into the stands, looked right at me, then moved away, and again i was just next to someone who got his signature. of course, i know this has nothing to do with me, and yet i cant shake the feeling that this pro baseball player hated the 12 year old version of me.

As a kid I was a 3rd baseman and I always tried to imitate Jeter's fielding and a combination of Arod and Cano's swing. I remember being always glued to ESPN watching them break down each swing so I could then try it at practice.

Man, as a Mariners fan, his signing was a double edged sword. The 2016 Mariners deserved to reach the playoffs, they could mash but just fumbled games in critical times. The 5 years we had Cano, he was great and the fan base was expecting a slow decline in his remaining years. It ended worse for him and it was such a huge hit having to sacrifice Diaz to get out from under most of his remaining contract where if we didn't have him bleeding the cash and still had Diaz as he was and is, we could have got an absolute haul for him if he still needed to be traded. It really set our team back and I'm glad Jerry is using that experience now and not going crazy, knowing it's likely the back end of these monster contracts become a cancer.

@Sparky Shore He's a gift to baseball itself. When he came up, I hadn't seen a pitcher since maybe Chapman with such a dominant fastball where even Mike Trout was trying to catch up. Sometimes he just doesn't have the command, but when he's on, it's something else. Most mariners fans realize we probably would have had to trade him with or without Cano, if the Mets still wanted him then it probably would've been the biggest haul seen for a reliever.

Great vid. Even as a Mets fan, you had to respect Robinson Cano in his heyday with the Yankees. Another sign of Cano’s fall from grace; when he signed with the Mets, they gave him #24, which had been out of circulation since Willie Mays retired in 1973. After he was released, the Mets announced they were retiring 24 for Mays. I do not think that is a coincidence.

Addendum: I looked it up. Rickey Henderson wore 24 when he was with the Mets in 1999-2000. Also Kelvin Torve, some random guy who played 30 games in 1990. Also, Joan Payson, owner of the Mets at the time, had always intended to retire 24 for Mays, but she died before he retired.

You know you love playing baseball when your willing to ground out minor league games in el paso. And can we revisit this PEDs means no half of fame stuff? I disagree with that mentality. PEDs enhance your natural ability, and if everyone is using, the playing field is level. Even though it enhances there stats, they are executing there performance, they still have to practice their swing, there fielding, maintain there fitness etc. Im fine with letting them in with an asterisk noting their ped test history.

We were very happy to have him in Seattle..literally up until the suspension. Then it just seems like we were done with him and happy he got traded away, though less happy about Diaz being included (that kid was electric as a closer). At least I can finally say that as of this comment, Seattle finally made it back to the playoffs! Honestly never thought I'd say that, especially after being there on the final day of the 2014 season and seeing the A's clinch their spot via the scoreboard.

It was a cool moment when I got to see the Mets played the Marlins at what’s now known as loan depot park, after mid inning, tossing, he would be the last person with the baseball to throw in the stands, he looked in the crowd, and apparently I was the only person in the stands, who had the same skin tone as he did, and he actually threw the ball to me, that was pretty cool

Don’t forget young Cano was best friends & came up with Melky Cabrera on those mid-2000 Yankees teams .Melky is another player who was caught using PEDs multiple times. ARod mentored both & his use likely influenced their usage. Many of Cano’s Yankee teammates from 06-08 have PED attached to their name:Giambi admitted PED use ,Sheffield was listed on Mitchell Report,Wilson Betitmet suspended,Cervelli suspended & players suspected Abreu,Damon,Ivan Rodriguez. So it was all around him.

I see your point, but I’d assume the Dominican PED culture had more of an impact on his decision. It was probably more prevalent when he was growing up, and there’s a chance he used PEDs as a teen to increase his stock as a player to get signed

i loved this video cano was by far my favorite player as a kid i remember him breaking into the league and was devestated when he went to seattle and i also didnt believe it when he first tested positive. he will always be my favorite player but sad to see how it ended
