Ever wondered how Russians actually live in winter? In this video I walk around Izhevsk (the motherland of Kalashnikov) in the Udmurt Republic, Russia on a cold winter day. You'll see provincial Russia with its Orthodox churches, typical Russian (or Soviet) neighbourhoods with tall appartment blocks, lots of snow removal equipments and legendary Russian public transport (btw, have you ever heard of a trolleybus?). I hope that this video will bring you closer to the Russian culture and make you smile!
As a bonus, in this Russia vlog I'll show you an amazing ice sculpures festival and some cool street interviews with Russians. Also, you'll learn some interesting details about ice fishing in Izhevsk and will hear modern Udmurt music! Enjoy this new episode of Russian girl's adventures! :)

Hey guys! Two questions for you: 1. Should I make some sort of giveaway with little presents from Izhevsk? How should I choose who to send them to? 🎁 2. Do you think Izhevsk is ugly or cozy? (you can be honest 😅) Thanks you for watching my video ❤️

For me who've been living in Izhevsk for my whole life Izhevsk seems dull and kinda ugly but i noticed a thing that surprised me. I've watched few videos about Izhevsk by people who've just arrived there or who just wanted to film a little documentary about their hometown. In these videos Izhevsk seemed so live, so exciting and cozy. I looked at places i got used to in a different way and it's interesting to me, Izhevsk is really unique and i love this about it. Thank you for bringing us there and showing Izhevsk in various angles, i really appreciate it. Wishing you the best and sending virtual hugs ❤️

very nice video, bringing out the beauty in your city (so in answer to your question its "cozy"). i appreciate the fact you show factories and industrial parts of the city, even if at a distance. many videos about cities from all over the world ignore things like that, as if such vital things don't exist. thanks for sharing.

This is a great video with a visit to a church, the fisherman and the artists. Considering the limited funds available to the city administration, they do a good job. Be aware that in Germany they can spend about ten times more money for each inhabitant than in Russia. In Sweden or Switzerland, it's thirteen times more. It's no surprise how with that much more money any public service will be improved and any town or city looks better. The holy water from the church also exists in catholic areas in Europe and probably many other areas of the world. It is used in many ways like sprinkling it on animals like cows to make sure they stay healthy.
@elenastravels
@elenastravels 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, James! Glad you liked the video :) You're right... Izhevsk is developing really slowly because not much money goes into this region. But the city administration still tries to do everything they can. Yeah, I thought so too about the holy water. Interesting!

Красивое, уютная, информацию видео Елена как обычно мне понравилась твоя видео. Ты художник. Спасибо большое! Very nice video as usual, your vlogs are like short films. I like Izhevsk too, like many other Russian cities and also the countryside where your grandparents Dacha is as well as Udmurt folklore. Both the village and city life seem nice in their own way. The wooden buildings, ice sculptures, lots of snow which I like but don't get to experience in Istanbul except a few days at most every year, and I love summer, the people you met, scenes around town, trolleys that we had in Istanbul in my childhood some 45-50 years ago, they all are cool. And the ice-cream machine too. I am hoping to be a1 in Russian in three to four months.
@elenastravels
@elenastravels 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, Mehmet! Thank you for comparing my little videos to films, it's so nice to hear :) Wow, you had trolleybuses in Istanbul? Do you know why they got rid of them? I haven't seen trolleybuses anywhere in the world except for Russia :) By the way, it's not an ice-cream machine. It's a little booth where some person sits all day and sells ice-cream ;)

@@elenastravels we had trolleybuses in the 1960s and 70s in a very small area near Taksim, probably one or two lines, they were imported from Britain. I was a kid in the 70s and I remember getting into them when visiting my grandpa with my family. They took them off service in the 80s and imported more gas engine busses. Don't know the reason it could be to enrich some connected people or maybe some other reason. Turkey is looted by capitalists since 1945 and governments did everything to privatize and sell everything Turkey had to Western companies and their local stooges.

So much snow, but quite beautiful. The ice sculptures are so beautiful and the detail is amazing. So much talent to create. Always love your backround music. You have good taste with your music choices. After seeing so many vlogs showing life in Russia if I was younger and in good health I would love to visit Russia. The scenery and variety of nature is everywhere. I think a small give away would be nice for people to cherish coming from you. Maybe a random choice out of the ones that gave your video a thumbs up? A Q AND A about your family..I would love to see your mom and dad and about what it was like growing up.Do you have siblings? What do you like to do in your spare time or what are the favorite foods you like to eat at home? Etc Etc. Of course maybe your mom and dad might not want to appear on video. Either way they should be very proud of raising such a nice respectful daughter with such a down to earth beautiful spirit. You even talk to old grandpa’s like me! 🥳 I would be so proud to have a granddaughter like you! Keep up the good work and be encouraged many people love you and your videos educating so many of us from other countries.

I live in the U.S. and grew up in a place where it gets -40F in the winter and the high can be -10F for the day. (not Alaska) The winter doesn't stop people from doing things. Where I live now, they get 6" of snow and the city panics and shuts down, but the think winters are brutal. It's all what you're used to. Best Wishes.

Every place has beautiful things and others less beautiful. I like the ice sculptures in your video... beautiful, original and linked to the territory and the culture of cold. It is also culturally appreciable the enhancement of local music (Udmurtia) and beautiful reed flute. The graffiti on walls and objects are not beautiful: a horrible copy of the West and the sadness of the fisherman's loneliness. better a nice tango course for adults.

Elena, sometimes you make me laugh without even trying to be funny. I started laughing when I saw your AK-47 key chain and I laughed again when you said something like, "I hope he doesn't follow me. But he's drunk so he'll probably fall down." Just out of curiosity, what day is your birthday?
@elenastravels

That’s funny 😄 But why did the key chain make you laugh? It’s May 1
@meatwad1
@meatwad1 Жыл бұрын
@@elenastravels Probably because it was unexpected. You seem like this sweet, laidback woman and you pull out this keychain and it has this little machine gun on it. It suggests you have a well-hidden feisty side to you. :)

Hey Denny! Thank you for sending the book… so sorry to hear it was returned back to you :( I’ve heard Russian post hasn’t been working properly lately due to the sanctions. It might be why, I really don’t know…
