And he can do that also because the middle level govt officials like building inspectors etc are either corrupt or incompetent...... Hence this .....

This need urgent attention ,my friend lost his relatives in mumbai building collapse. In Our country roads, building, bridges are built of low quality and in weak foundation,on top of it we keep on adding floors to weak foundation,this could happen to any of us , our country needs scientific urban planning and maintenance.

I have no clue why these owners are mourning. They paid bribe to build a house UNLAWFULLY there should be atleast 1 or 2 meter distance between 2 buildings. The official take bribe and allow such construction.

Very nice analysis sir. In Sriharikota, isro employees are staying in 45years back constructed houses. All the houses and buildings vibrates during launch. So many houses are renovated. But not safe.

Properties also sink and get damaged due to Subsidence. This is typical as Bangalore extracts a lot of ground water. I agree with this report also.... when constructing the landlord and contractors break all by-laws ... such disasters are waiting to happen more as construction rule are not followed. Just see he apartments constructed by KHB in Surya city ... they have so many defects those apartments are a disaster waiting to happen.

Upper strong, lower weak. This is the mentality of people who want more for less. People themselves become expert structural engineers and architects and together with the Masons do up a building. Most of Bangalore was developed a few decades ago and as such was levelled and land filled. engaging a qualified structural engineer, having soil tested for withstanding building loads etc entails an extra cost but definitely worth it. Most important characteristics of a building is hidden by a coat of painting. A lot goes inside that. A 90 year old lady can be transformed into a 16 year old simply by makeup..

Goddamn! This has nothing to do with reservations, this is the problem of Indian education system and corruption done by officials at multiple levels! Reservations are not a poverty alleviation scheme, it is to give adequate representation to all communities in india in all fields according to their population. Anybody who can put together the building materials are contractors. There is no permission required and no scientific rationale behind contracting eligibility in India for private development. Structural engineering is reduced to a regulatory and academic joke. Corrupt building permit approvers are directly responsible.
