How safety valve or engine oil filter bypass valve works

Hi,This video explains about the working of an engine oil filter bypass valve, it can be also called as a safety valve.
As you can see in the above video and understand that the engine oil is stored in the engine oil sump; the oil pump sucks the oil and supplies it to the main oil gallery and different sections of the engine. Before its been supplied the oil gets cooled by the engine oil cooler and gets filtered. After it passes through the cooling galleries. But the path through which the oil passes to the filter, if the filter is blocked or chocked due to impurities it restricts the flow of oil to the galleries from the filter. This will result in oil starvation in the engine there by engine failure can occur due to overheating.
To avoid this engine oil filter bypass valve is used; it acts as a safety valve. Its working is explained very clearly in the above video. A valve is installed in the path of the oil flow to the filter from the cooler. If the filter is chocked, the pressure at this line increases and exceeds the cracking pressure of the valve and it opens to redirect the flow to the main gallery without filtration, thereby preventing the engine from major failure that can occur due to oil starvation.

thanks... did comp test Checked everything couldn't work it out ... rang my mechanic... asked what oil he put in... changed to a synthetic and a thinner viscosity .. light bulb moment. that's what it was .. thanks for your ongoing support ..👍👍

Quick question: if the OEM filter opens at 21psi and I use an aftermarket that opens at 10 psi, by assumption do I have the risk that my engine to open completely the valve of the aftermarket and basically not filter the oil in my car?

can any one HELP ME does anyone know if the oil pressure valve is stuck closed ...(not safety valve)... apart from high oil pressure .. (mine at 80 at 3400rpm approx) ... is it possible it be causing me to use oil and possibly push oil past my valve stem seals etc ?? or some other way of oil use ... as my oil is not milky .. water not oily .. only thing i can see is exhaust pipe weep holes have water drip out and it feels quite oily .. it's in a 1971 hq holden 308 proffesionally fully rebuilt . mild cam mid range .. all stock otherwise . with twin system paceys .. would appreciate some thoughts please...
