My path to becoming an Auto Mechanic/Instructor/KZbin creator and why I think this field is so awesome! If you are new in this business, I hope this story encourages you.
ScannerDanner Tools:
www.scannerdanner.com/tools.html
www.amazon.com/shop/scannerda...
For more information on this topic, I have written a “field manual” called Engine Performance Diagnostics which is available at www.scannerdanner.com as an eBook or paper book.
Want even more diagnostic training? Whether you are a DIY trying to fix your own car, someone looking to become an auto technician, or a current auto technician that wants to get more into diagnostics, subscribe to ScannerDanner Premium www.scannerdanner.com/join-sc... There is a 14 day free trial.
On ScannerDanner Premium I will bring you right into my classroom at Rosedale Technical College. You will find page for page lectures taken right from my book as well as exclusive classroom type case studies. What is so special about these classroom case studies? I pull live problem vehicles directly into my classroom and we troubleshoot them in real time, using and applying the theory and testing procedures we learn during the classroom lectures. There is no better on-line training of how to troubleshoot automotive electrical and electronics systems anywhere!

@@ScannerDanner ScannerDanner I have a problem. I am a decent mechanic and I have run into a totally unsolvable problem with my 1988 Ford Bronco II. It runs well but dies totally randomly while I am driving it. Heres the weird part I can throw it in N and it restarts like nothing ever happened then it will run fine for a random amount of time and die again like someone pulled the plug. It has gotten worse over the last year to make the Truck undriveable. I have replaced a ton of parts already (Ignition Mod, ECM, Relays, Coil, Battery and cables, Starter Solenoid, cap rotor, plugs and wires) and they made it run a little better but none of them was the problem that makes it die. If you or anyone else knows a good way to diagnose this issue or has had a similar problem please let me know what I might try next. I have a multimeter and watch lots of your videos but I am stuck on this one and I can't really run tests on it while I am driving it. I posted here because I know you and your audience are the best mechanics out there. Please help me exorcise the Ford demon in my Bronco II i love so much.

I have always have a passion like yourself for electricity but never applied it due to my alcoholism and other issues. After getting sober in 2009 I found a lot of good (and some not so good) info to further my pursuit of diagnostics. I found your you tube channel and it was the dodge neon video that told me i wanted what you had. Me and my pregnant wife were about to lose our house to the bank back in 2011; Your book and what I have learned from you, and others like you. Have allowed me to work for myself doing Mobil diagnostics, thus able to keep my house. At the moment I am entrusted to run a busy repair garage and not only financially stable, i get to learn and still love what I do everyday. I cannot thank you enough for being here as gods worker and to share your gifts with us. I only hope I can share my gifts as well as you have one day. Another great video, Its always great to see you again.

Great words from A Great Teacher👍 Thanks for motivating us SD, you're my true inspiration👍 I was a regular mechanic a wrench everyday guy, & had probably given up on myself & was thinking to switch to another trade🤔 One-day (I don't know how) your video popped-up in my suggestions in which you were finding a shorted wire on a Ford Crown-Vic😉 That video opened my mind & changed my life, since then I was addicted to your KZbin channel👍 Like all your students, I desperately wanted to get a hard copy of your book w/SD magnet logo😉, (initially it was impossible) but it took sometime, got the order placed with Aeswave & finally received my shipment on 17 Dec 2019 (Boy what a moment it was)👍 Since then, your book has transformed my knowledge to a different level & no matter what system I'm working on, it has always led me to the right direction👍 Normally I don't have access to any sort of service info or wiring diagrams, but following your method of understanding the theory of operation & utilizing a test-light has been outstanding👍 I'm still hustling with my career for various reasons, but I strongly believe that your teachings will make me successful one-day🙏 Thanks SD, Stay Blessed❤

Never worked that way for me. The better I got the more time I spent helping everyone else make money in the shop. I was always asked to help when someone was in over their head and it would take up most of my time in the shop. Like you I started working for myself doing diagnostics for shops around Memphis TN and did some demo work for some of the tool dealers. One thing I noticed was that every now and then you could help that one guy that dreaded coming in to work everyday because he was being asked to do a job that the shop he was in wasn't equipped to do or willing to train their techs to be able to do it. I'm glad to see your videos on KZbin. I'm sure it's going a long way for a lot of guys that are in similar situations today. All the best from Graceland ;-) Paul

Greetings Mr. ScannerDanner from Sri Lanka! Funny story to be told from my end. After I finished schooling, I went to Australia to study auto mechanics ( and you know to settle down) I learned many things there but always struggled on electricity and testing. Basic principles where missed by myself and I also have the same experience working in a workshop where you do services and brake pads etc. After completing first year, I came home for vacation. Then, COVID hit. I am still stuck at home unable to go back. As curfew was imposed upon us, I used my time for self study as much as I can. This was the moment I came across your channel. I'm happy to say that I am now in a position take on an electrical job way more comfortably thanks to you Sir! Hoping back to go back and pursue my dream to become a master tec. Wish you all the very best in life and to keep educating countless people all over the world !!!

Holy Crap Paul. I am doing much the same as what you did, but I still turn wrenches and do mechanical stuff too. I study your videos and case studies like crazy. I started with a friend, who is a mechanic, recommending me to some other shop, and then it just snowballed out of control. Over the last month and a half or so I have made about 7K. It is crazy. I am doing this after my 8-5 job. At first they all took me a while, today I found a power feed problem on a PCM in a Malibu and diagnosed it to a bad fuse box in about 15 minutes. Confirmed diagnosis and $100. I thought wow, I am actually getting pretty good at this stuff. I do a LOT of work for buy here pay here lots that bring in the strange one from auctions. I am considering quitting my full time job soon as a Network engineer and just doing this stuff full time. Like you I keep raising my prices, but the work doesn't slow down. They are just happy that someone can figure it out, so they can get the car sold.

I found this channel from trying to fix a car . I also went to trade school and GM training . I working for a dealership but I hate warranty work so I left that an finally got a job for a power generation company . One of the reasons I got the job was from my mechanical training and other skill sets. I retired now but I still like to learn and Paul is a stand up guy and his training it very good . . These videos can say you a lot of money even if you don't work in the field . That's where I at . I appreciate all you do Sir

This is great Paul. To anybody else out there. The correct answer to the Question, "What's wrong with it?". I don't know. I am going to have to troubleshoot the problem first. I have been an Electrician in commercial, industrial, institutional and healthcare for over 35 years. That was my answer. I don't know. But I will figure it out. Unfortunately people in general have come to expect instant gratification. As wise mentor once told me."Plan your work. Work your plan". Don't get rattled and don't give in to blurting out something to satisfy their insecurity. Never ever tell them how long it's going to take either. You might solve it in 15 minutes or it might take a day or two to recreate the exact circumstances that are causing the malfunction.

Your videos and book have really helped me out a lot. I am still a fairly new mechanic. I was promoted from an oil and tire guy about 6 months ago, and have had to do a couple of engine diagnostics since then. You do an amazing job of explaining why you do the things you do and what you are looking at rather than saying "if you see this then it's this" and just leaving it at that. Now I can go into this P0171 lean diagnosis tomorrow with a plan because I understand what the car is doing, what systems could be the problem, and have the knowledge on how to test and verify those systems. So I would just like to say thank you for what you do and to keep passing on that knowledge because it is great for people just starting to get into the field.

I have entered this field with ericthecarguy's slogan (keep dirty) , after that I stepped up to the second stage when knowing you and slogan changed to (no assumptions just follow the evidence = work smart) which is danner's slogan ❤ , finally I reached to my own slogan (it will not be harder) , it will not be harder to learn whatever I want now ! .... Mr.danner thanks for giving us light and thanks for sharing with us drawing my career borders and mind. I love you man , and If one day I owned a garage , I will put your photo on my wall Thanks

Great stuff man! We had similar backgrounds, only it took me several more years than you to get my head out of my… you know where... Instead of working in automotive fields, I did everything but in my younger days. Roofing, plastic factories, speaker factories, truck driving, trash pick up. You name it I’ve done it, LOL. After wrestling six days with the transmission in my truck, I’ve come to realize that I should’ve stuck with ONE thing, and focused on that. I would’ve been a master, and everything would’ve went easy with time. Instead I still try to do it all. Electrical Diags, nuts and bolts work, outdoor power equipment of every kind from chainsaws to generators… There’s some benefit to having your fingers in everything, but I would’ve been much better served focusing on one thing. I was interested in electrical too. I should’ve focused there. Hindsight is always 20/20! Anyway, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with the world. It’s one more tool in my toolbox, & has helped me out tremendously. Thanks, brother! 👍🍻
