Nice to see people educated in alternative methods, adopt them and then help an ecosystem and of course see increased benefits in there own lives.

Hi, in Mexico we face this problem as well, the brown sea cucumber is actually on our top 10 most iconic endangered species list. I would like to start a sea cucumber farm here, and would appreciate advice from an expert.

In Malaysia they use sea cucumber (known as gamat by local) as effectice medicinal remedies. It may not a beautiful creature, but have lots of benefit for ecosystem and economic value in future. Even China is starting to do commercial farming and harvesting on this.

Sea cucumbers are quite yummy. It's not for aphrodisiac purposes, but people eat them because its another food source like fish.
@inesdelahoya2045
@inesdelahoya2045 5 жыл бұрын
The sea cucumber is not regarded as an aphrodisiac, at least in the majority parts of Asia I’ve been to, but Indeed a much-sought-after, constantly-in-demand and terribly expensive delicacy; i.e.: ~$300/kg for upper-middle grade dry product. It is proven by science to be healthy - potent with collagen, protein, other nutrients and beneficial properties, and no cholesterol.

@inesdelahoya2045 5 жыл бұрын
@@RBuckminsterFuller Yes. There is such logic when applying to certain food, such as rhinoceros horns or the Vietnamese eating cow penises; however, in this case, it DOES NOT apply, as the Chinese and the Japanese eat sea cucumbers simply for their gastronomic pleasure, with NO consideration of any other department -- as written already in my previous comment: "The sea cucumber IS NOT REGARDED as an aphrodisiac...". Thank you.

@@inesdelahoya2045 "Chinese folk belief attributes male sexual health and aphrodisiac qualities to the sea cucumber, as it physically resembles a phallus, and uses a defence mechanism similar to ejaculation as it stiffens and squirts a jet of water at the aggressor. It is also considered a restorative for tendonitis and arthritis."

@@RBuckminsterFuller Yes at one point it was marketed that way by word of mouth. but no, Chinese people are not that ignorant and uneducated nowadays, unlike 30 years ago. There is still a small community that favor the old thinking, and yes. Apologizing that 0.01% of a 13billion population is still 130k people.
@RBuckminsterFuller

@@p46709394 Sorry, you think there are 13 billion people living in China? As far as being ignorant... there's a reason elephants and rhinos are being poached for their horns in Africa and why sharks are being killed for their back fins.

I know a joke about sea cucumbers: There's a mollusk. And he walks up to a sea... Well, he doesn't walk up, he swims up. Well, actually, the mollusk isn't moving, he's in one place. And then the sea cucumber, well, they... I mixed up. There was a mollusk and a sea cucumber. None of them were walking, so forget that... There was this mollusk and he walks up to a sea cucumber. Normally they don't talk, sea cucumbers, but in a joke, everyone talks. So just then, the sea cucumber looks over to the mollusk and says, "With fronds like these, who needs anenomes?"

It's collapsing because of commercial fishing vessels. If we cap the fishing industry to a small size plus the yearly no-fishing for mating season, then we won't have poor fishermen nor expensive fish in the market! Those small fishermen living in humble homes don't want millions. They just wana get by,put their kids to school and have a simple life. They can't and have no desire to compete with commercial fishing vessels
