I've got some specifics as to *how* Generations neutered the Egg Dragoon's music track: -The original's sporadic breakbeat drum n' bass percussion is watered down to an easy-to-follow rhythm with little punch. -The opening melody is no longer performed solely by brass instruments (which bring alarm klaxons to mind), which instead take a backseat to strings, which lack the bright timbre. Speaking of strings... -The high wailing of the violin from the original is cut entirely. Before the original fight even starts, there's a scene where Sonic struggles to find his bearings while in freefall backed solely by the percussion and violin solo, before Eggman descends in time with the song's climax. In Generations, it truly feels like Eggman and Sonic are just going through the motions. No showmanship and no substance, reflected perfectly through this Diet Egg Dragoon track.

I think the funny thing is, Eggman built the egg dragoon as a Sonic the HEDGEHOG counter, and data didn’t pick up on Werehog with the use of heavy armour and firepower . Meanwhile he built the machine again in Generations as a Werehog encounter not a Hedgehog one, by applying more mobility and evasive tactics, alongside a freezing weapon to hold him still. Well that’s how I see it.

So, in defense of the Egg Dragoon boss fight in Generations. The fire laser *is* used, most videos however don't demonstrate it because Robotnik needs enough time to finish his Ice Shockwave attack in the 3D sections (this includes not grinding on the Rails) to say "BURN!" and use that Arm Cannon properly, which is entirely dependant on if you have Boost or not. In phase 2 same deal. As for his Drill Attack, you *do* actually have to sidestep it because you CANNOT jump over the explosion it causes. The boss fight in Generations *knew* it couldn't match the Story Intensity of Unleashed, and instead went ham in the gameplay department by making the Egg Dragoon a final exam of Modern Sonic's gameplay (which is done fantastically because unlike... Y'know, some Eggman Bosses, you're actually doing something, and the fight can QUICKLY turn sour, I recall losing a lotta lives when I first met this boss, wheras I don't think I could lose to the Unleashed Egg Dragoon once, even casually). 3D sections, 2D sections, Walljumping, Rail Grinding, and Freefalling all in a single boss fight, the Egg Dragoon in Generations is the *real* final boss of that game, the Time Eater is more of a finale.

Something I like to think is that the Egg Dragoon in Unleashed isn’t finished and the generations version is the finished product because of the amount of things the generations version can do that the unleashed version can’t and I think it adds to Eggmans desperation for him to use a robot that isn’t even finished yet.

I like to think that the unleashed dragoon is eggman's flaw of being impatient coming full circle. He rushed the awakening of dark gaia, forceing him to regather it parts. He rushed ejecting sonic into space, neglecting to grab the chaos emeralds. He rushed off after Sonic confronted him in Mazuri, accidentally leading Sonic to the first gaia temple. Things like that just keep happening until he decides to fight sonic in the prototype 1, "prototype", as in it is literally not finished. That may explain things like why the shield generators are in an exposed spot or why the controls can be locked up simply by punching it. Eggman plan was great, but he was too eager to beat Sonic, and he made careless mistakes at nearly every opportunity, leading to his utimate failure.

While Egg Dragoon theme still does feel a bit more watered down in generations than unleashed, I still liked that they kept the orchestral feel to it. I think outside of a few level tracks and the final boss fight it is one of the few that doesn’t really incorporate much synth into the theme. Not that synth in music is bad, the rest of generation’s soundtrack is still amazing, but when it comes to the egg dragoon, I feel it’s important to keep that orchestral grandness it had in unleashed because that was part of its identity, which they did do which was more than enough for me to enjoy it in gens despite having removed some really good parts. Now imagine my surprise when it shows up in forces and its theme is now ENTIRELY incorporated of synth and digitized instruments with not a single orchestra instrument to be heard with no grandness or tension in its theme. They really did make the egg dragoon feel like just another eggman mech here

Actually, Infinite is supposed to be another Shadow thing (fake memories and a fake past made by Eggman to give him the will to be a seemingly normal mercenary that is oddly way stronger than the rest), except him and his team are made of a weird and possibly digital material (final judgement) before Eggman has his hands on the Ruby, and Eggman’s plans backfired so hard that Infinite almost killed him. The Egg Dragoon was designed to counter Sonic the Hedgehog according to Sonic Unleashed. So Werehog vs Dragoon was an easy fight because it wasn’t designed with the Werehog in mind. Good video! I did spot a minor error here though, Egg Dragoon in Generations DOES fire the red laser that's shown in the opening, he just sometimes never does it. He mainly does this when he splits in two, I think it's more likely to do it if you decide not to jump on the rail and run up close to him, though he can end up doing it either way. Though if you're on hard mode, he goes ham with it like there's no tomorrow! Or at least as I remember it, I used to play the game on my PS3, which means he could have a higher chance of doing it there than on other versions. [likely due to wacky porting, the boss fight is already jank at times, so this doesn't seem entirely unlikely to me]
The Egg Dragoon is my favorite Eggman mecha. Is the one that cost me the most to beat and the only one that has actually scared me when it was about to destroy the last rock platform. I love everything about it, and the soundtrack is the most incredible and it matches perfectly the atmosphere. But in Forces... They made it another badnik that can be easily defeated. Most people don't see this as an icon. I see the egg dragoon as an icon, as someone who first played the Sonic series with Unleashed. I have replayed this game for over 15 years (PS2 save file was corrupted last year and I need to get a disc drive to get a copy I can play the story in now bc mine's got scratches from the amount of times I played it) and one day, while playing it, I noticed something with both the Egg Lancer and the Egg Dragoon. The Egg Lancer, as you stated, cobbles together both the Egg Beetle and Egg Devil Ray (tysm for noticing it), but what isn't really talked about is the Egg Dragoon does something similar, at least in PS2/Wii versions. The three attacks when he's not breaking the platform are ALL BASED OFF OF THE PRIOR THREE NIGHTTIME BOSSES. The fireball projectiles that home in on you just like the feathers of the Dark Gaia Phoenix, the icy blasts the Dark Moray charges up at you that can freeze you are here too, fired as a charged attack from the gun and the electrically charged hammer swing from the Dark Guardian (Sidenote: That boss is PATHETIC, I have a record of UNDER 20 SECONDS on it) translates to the electrically charged drill swipe. And even the drill could be a refrence to the opening cutscene, with the earth broken apart. Just bc we don't have the voice lines PS3 and xbox 360 have (I will get the xbox version one day) it does not downplay the epicness factor, especcially as you get TWO CHANCES to regain lost health (rings) and they're when you're freefalling I have never played Generations, but the boss fight looks tolerable to me Sonic forces just butchered my boy, I literally was like 'I'm disowning this Egg Dragoon fight' as soon as I played it Wyvern from Frontiers... Well, it's too similar to be a coincidence, right? But if it is actually related, then it's a return to the Unleashed form as the fight was EPIC

Actually, eggman DOES use the fire strip attack in generations. It just circles around the whole tube and forces you to jump over them if you take too long. I think gens and unleashed respected the robot and understood why it was hype Unleashed is supposed to represent how both sonic and eggman have grown and eggmans involvement in the story. Eggman finally creates eggmanland and finally has the power to rule the world, meanwhile for sonic it represents how the mech he once struggled with now has the ability TO defeat it with a transformation that sonic was first struggling with. Its THE final boss fight for both characters, the culmination of their arcs throughout the game. Meanwhile gens is more of a nod to what the robot was intended to be, the peak anti sonic mech. Now the mech is going faster than sonic always being infront of him, and its finally finished instead of being a prototype. Unfortunately, yes the fight is lessened in intensity because of time eater but i also think its because of unleashed that the fight is the way it is. Now instead of this fear of “oh boy, this eggman mech i fought in the beginning of the game that i needed to go super so i could beat them is now fighting me in werehog form” its instead “I’ve faced you down so i know what i gotta do, but you’re still pretty strong.” Both characters know that this isn’t the same threat as before. Sonic WILL save the world and eggman is fighting just for the satisfaction of finishing his ultimate mech yet which is why he says “I was supposed to beat you this time”. Forces is just disrespectful in every way. Before with how they handled it in gens, MODERN sonic could take it because sonic UNDERSTOOD how to fight it and used his strength to win. No offense to classic but LITERALLY HOW DOES CLASSIC WIN IN THIS SCENARIO?! Its true that sonic overtime has gotten stronger, and because of that he’s able to take larger foes. SO HOW IS CLASSIC SONIC FIGHTING *THE* ANTI SONIC MECH DESIGNED TO COUNTER MODERN SONIC. No dire song to panic to, no engaging challenges that the boss represents, and the dialogue is just a nothing burger. All together Really good video! I do hope you get to play eggdragoon soon!

Imma say it. I really like Eggman land and feel like it's the perfect partner for Egg Dragoon. Eggman has been talking about Eggman land for over 10 years at this point. And when you finally get to the end of the marathon you see this beast of a Mecha. Probably Eggman's coolest mecha. It doesn't look like his other mechas. And the soundtrack is amazing. The beats intense and bombastic, constantly ebbing and flowing. Remember your falling to the earths core. This is do or die. It's a perfect fusion of cinematic and gameplay. You may or may not know, but the boss is "timed." In the second phase, eggman will intermittently destroy the stage. Till leaving you with just one. At which point desperately Chip and Sonic will point out it's the end of the road. If you still fail to beat him, he will destroy the stage and you will die. I will say this in defense of generations. I think the change of theme is just to the dynamic of the fight. Now being a high speed chase, instead of a 1v1 brawl. Frontiers is just bad lol. Reskin it as a Random Giant Egg pawn, and there would be no difference. Nothing about this is Egg Dragoon. I hope they don't try and "normalize" it as just another mech he always has on standby like his Eggmobile

fun bits about the unleashed dragoon - eggman has not seen the werehog in combat during the entire game. the dragoon was built with only data on regular sonic. likely it was designed to be fast enough to be out of sonic's reach, and even then, the cockpit was the obvious spot to target. if sonic were in his comfort zone he would have gone straight for the cockpit. however, due to his slower speed he had to actually think about his approach. additionally, he would have had a much harder time ripping them out without the stretchy arms. it's seemingly built for range and to be high up as well, taking into account sonic's lack of flight (ignoring how he has all the chaos emeralds here). however, the continent is still floating here, and dark gaia is complete, so all evidence suggests eggman has won, despite sonic's resistance. (side note - if sonic and chip had visited professor pickle one less time they would have gotten there soon enough to prevent dark gaia from being released). however, he seemed to have run out of time to design it since the gens version has the ice feet. canon-wise that was likely a cut feature from the dragoon, but during gens eggman has the opportunity to finish it, although it still wasn't enough. and then he mustve designed the forces version with a brain injury since it completely loses all ferocity and gets beaten by fucking classic sonic. went from one of eggman's greatest creations to a monument to the fuckup that forces was.

I think it might be the fun aspect, that Sonic and Eggman were having fun. I get that it's not as serious as the original fight, but it's not supposed to be. Darn, I was expecting a remark on eggman's final line in unleashed that he uses when you actually run out of time and die by falling into the earth's core I find it really interesting that he specifically says that there's nowhere left to run given how running is sonic's thing. But yeah no remorse or sadness like back in SA 2, nah it's over for sonic and you can clearly hear eggman laughing for that

What I can say about each version of the egg dragoon is that eggman is increasingly calmer, and the most remembered thing about the first battle is that he was completely unhinged and even more so with the original theme you could tell this, given the fact that eggman He rushed and used a prototype before fully testing the robot, I feel that the next one in generations was the full version of this plus it added more functions to defeat Sonic. In generations this essence is completely lost but it is complemented by the fact that Eggman now improved it and even if he loses, he knows that he has a time eater for later, literally the guy improved the egg dragoon for this fight and this is completely ruined in the execution of the battle for the rails that leaves all the creative attacks such as the lines of fire or the freezing rays that he launches from his feet in the background. In Forces it is more or less explained why he is so degraded taking into account the dialogue that he lost 10% of his abilities but Tails calls him a liar, maybe this egg dragoon is only what Eggman was able to restore from the original and it is not complete , it lost all the charisma and could have been more creative about it with this issue, I only feel the essence that Eggman once again uses an incomplete robot to defeat Sonic but this is lost since it is classic Sonic and how the execution of the boss is very disappointing

I'm so glad you made this video. The Egg Dragoon is my favorite Sonic boss in so many criteria. Like you said, I love the atmosphere SO so much. Sonic in his more aggressive Werehog form, having destroyed the mechanical paradise his nemesis has spent so many years trying to realize, careening down towards the center of the earth on rubble as Eggman is so mad he's no longer toying around with their rivalry as usual, actually fighting to kill for once. Outside the classics, this is the first time it feels like Sonic and Eggman are truly and earnestly giving it their all against each other, going head to head purely for the sakes of their egos and hatred for each other in that moment. They are no longer obstacles in each others' way; they themselves ARE the final objective. It's exhilarating. And musically? It's my favorite boss theme of all time. I fell in love the first time I heard it as a kid, and that love has only gotten stronger with time. I even appreciate the Generations remix; it's inferior to the original, but I love the song so much that I will graciously take any crumbs, any remix and mashup I can get my hands on, official or fanmade, to experience my favorite boss battle song in a new way. So imagine my utter disappointment when my favorite Sonic boss was announced to be returning in Forces, only for it to be reduced to the disappointment it was, and its theme NOT EVEN BEING A REMIX OF THE ORIGINAL SONG. Glad there are other Egg Dragoon lovers like me out there. Even if it never returns, I do hope we get a Sonic/Eggman clash as heated as this one again someday, and with a theme on par with, if not surpassing, the Egg Dragoon's.

Egg dragoon is I think one Eggmans most badass mechs aside from the Death egg Robot, it also has a very awesome looking animation of it rotating its body, the fact youre falling from eggmanland to the earths core, very climatic location. Though it was awesome to see it again in Sonic Generations, but it has new twist, its much faster, and has more weaponary. Can even split its body into separate machines. Though I still prefer the fight in Unleashed, but we can all agree they are both way better than the one in forces.

I don’t think you’re really doing the Generations version justice, and I do recommend you play it. Obviously it loses grandiosity the same way every boss but Metal and Silver do, but that’s just symptomatic of putting end-game bosses in Generation’s lack of story. The boss is still animated excellently, and it feels like a real menace. The gun arm is used for an attack! It does a huge rotating-fire-laser-cage thing, and it’s pretty cool. Just about all of the guides on KZbin beat the phase before the attack comes out tho. Shame, as it’s probably his flashiest attack. I think its only real failing is its pacing. There’s a badass attack phase where the top and bottom halves separate and bombard you with ice waves and fire lasers and it’s AWESOME, but if you’re keeping pace with the boss (and especially if you’re using the jump pads that launch you up to the grind rails) he’ll almost never use it. In conclusion, it’s an awesome boss and you should definitely give it a go. It’s a real shame that beating it optimally means you don’t see some of the awesome stuff, and I really wish there were better videos showcasing them.

Nice video, although the egg dragoon does fire it's laser at Sonic in generations, it's just that most videos don't show it because the attack is canceled if you get to the 2d section.

Btw: dragoon is an actual word. from what I could gleam from Wikipedia, it means something akin to artillery or cavalry or special unit etc. essentially meaning “big guns”. If this is true, the egg dragoon would be named so due to its arsenal, being equipped with a fir shooting Gatling/ cryo cannon and a lance/drill launcher. I now contest the title as biggest egg dragoon fan by having simply googled the word dragoon.

I honestly feel like a Classic Sonic Egg Dragoon fight done right could actually work. The falling platforms returning as the arena would fit in with 2D Sonic boss design and also having it possible to fall off the sides would add more challenge and make it harder to use the drop/spin dash, and beyond that I feel like despite Classic and Werehog playing completely differently it's easy to imagine most, if not all elements from the original Unleashed battle translating over, though you would probably have to add a bit more to it to avoid just being a 2D rehash of it, though even that would be miles better than what Forces gave us

The egg dragoon is one of if not my favorite boss fight in sonic history! The story behind it, almost feeling like the wrap up to Sonic adventure 1 and 2 with the giant tentacle god and BLOWING UP THE PLANET instead of the moon. The falling to the core, the music, the dialogue EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS FIGHT IS JUST UGHHH SO GOOD. And it was bastardized... Hell, even the fact that you fight this thing RIGHT after beating Egg man land, a level that'll take most beginners AN HOUR to beat! (I love eggman land, favorite sonic stage of all time fr)

The Egg Dragoon always stood out to me because it really is just an upgrade of the mech from the intro of Unleashed. The docking area is made from the torso of the original model, the legs are hilariously identical to the point of looking vestigial thanks to the increased mass of the upper body and even uses a version of its arsenal here; a rotary gun, missiles, a launching arm, and extra goons. It fits together with the theme of it being a prototype too. It's ramshackle, has exposed generators, unfinished wing units that are mostly just geothermal sails, but its good enough for when he's against the wall. Plus, the Dragoon name comes across as a poetic thing. Dragons guard their hoards carefully and violently, but most importantly were a metaphor for rich kings and emperors who hoard their wealth and enact cruelty on the neighboring nations. Since Eggmanland is specified as a continent and Eggman it's wealthy emperor given how he can afford any of the resources to do this to begin with, that would mean he fits the title of "dragon" perfectly. As a bonus, dragons - being reptiles with mild avian traits - are often assumed to hatch from _eggs._ Generations' depiction being rewritten to be less dire isn't just a quirk of the writing team though. The point of this fight being so thoroughly reworked from the Unleashed fight isn't just mechanical cohesion to avoid bringing out the Werehog again, but to hint that Eggman is ABSOLUTELY capitalizing on the Time Eater. This isn't the Egg Dragoon you fought then. This is a modified version he made with the foreknowledge of where and when that fight takes place but twisted to be more advantageous towards his intended use of the Dragoon, and he's being casual because this isn't Unleashed Eggman, this is the current, present Eggman PRETENDING to be Unleashed Eggman. The separation attack could even be him adding the Time Eater's dual cockpits to the dragoon so he could potentially use it alongside his past self, or even vice versa depending on how recent the changes in the final encounter with it were. The Dragoon in Generations, like in Unleashed, is a turning point boss that shows how deep into this plan Eggman is. But rather than being desperate because he's lost control of the situation, you start realizing he's actively toying with you because he's STILL the one holding all the cards. It also stands in stark contrast to how the Death Egg Robot battle went, with it being relatively true to the text with only the second phase being notably different in how it's attacked, and Dr. Robotnik being more genuine in both his taunts ("Catch me if you can!" because he's in the process of trying to escape the Death Egg and cut his losses) and the aftermath of him being genuinely unaware of what his Modern self is planning when he's first abducted. The Forces fight is indeed straight ass though.

A thing i love with egg dragoon is just the whole purpose behind it. At this point in the series, eggman has had enough of sonic, even says during the fight “just give up and DIE already”. He isn’t holding back, he wants Sonic DEAD, all his work, all his plans, to him this is his magnum opus, his ultimate weapon. And sonic knows this too, no quips, no jokes, this is serious. Even the setting, a platform falling into the very core of the earth, this is it, he wants you dead. This is between sonic and eggman, one last fight, eggman has sonic where he wants him, and the only way out of this is through HIM

I actually agree about that Eggman sanity. The old man pissed by some blue hedgehog in some goofy shoe's without pants destroying his entire land, who has already been ruining his plans for years, NOW GONE COMPLETELY INSANE READY TO UNLEASH ALL OF HIS ARSENAL JUST FOR ONE MUTATED ANIMAL, HE NOW CARES ABOUT NOTHING ELSE BUT KILLING SONIC THE HEDGEHOG! I love how after few moments in 06 they finally brought back original rivalry of those 2 adding some more dramatic insanityto Eggman at the finish line.

Well for the egg dragoon in forces it was stated to have lost a lot of its combat strength by eggman himself, also if you look at the machine again in close details you can see that its paint job is unfinished, the wings are fully out and look corrupted and there are multiple scratches as if eggman was planning in upgrading it midway but hasn't fully finished it hence why it lost its combat strength and more than likely the finished product of MK2 was probably gonna be a combination of what we got in generations and forces along with it being powered up by the energy of the phantom ruby, and have better shield orotection over the body plus more however eggman never finished it and thus it came iut the way that it did that's also why eggman wasnt too salty about losing it due to it being an unfinished project that he put back on doing and due to the fact that he focused more on the phantom ruby

Both the Generations and Unleashed versions of the Egg Dragoon music use midi soundfonts to create the vibe, but the ones in Generations just feel more muddied overall. The higher frequencies are much less prominent, making each "stab" in the music less prominent. How much energy was in each percussive stab in the original helped give the song its intensity RIGHT away. And honestly when you make a change that big to the overall sound without changing the structure of the song to adjust for it, it reads entirely differently. The strings have that same problem, which makes them less prominent in the middle section (the one you used as an example to represent the intensity). You're absolutely right in that it is effectively the same structure, and thats its biggest flaw, as the midi files used just somehow sound higher quality, but worse for the song in question. (I think the Egg Dragoon theme is my favorite boss theme in any Sonic game, and I'm a composer, so I have a LOT of opinions about this downgrade, and I think you were completely right about its flaws)

the egg dragoon boss music in unleashed really pushes the motive that, eggman, really REALLY hates sonic and this entire track solidifies his feelings towards him. the fun and bombastic side of song shows that eggman doesn't mind playing around with sonic while still being completely serious, meanwhile the dramatic and suspenseful parts show how he loathes every part of the rodent, and genuinely is out to kill him.

Amazing video, very much agree, but one mistake I noticed, the fire laser thing DOES come back in the fight, but only rarely and it's not very hard, which is unfortunate because it is, in concept, sick as hell, the barrels of a machine gun splitting to fire beams of fire in every direction. I also like that the Egg dragoon in Generations is technically to different functioning robots (oh, you just adressed that, cool), and the feet actually have a use, though I agree the pidley ice spike thing is pretty underwhelming, though the ice wave is cool, even if it's to small actuallybe a threat. A larger wave in combination with other attacks to throw you off balance would be cool. So much missed potential. By the by, you should check out the remix by GaMetal, it's different, but sounds soooooo bloody good.

Speaking as someone who adored playing this as a kid and an adult: That feeling of desperation and finality is felt in the gameplay especially if you didn't properly upgrade your abilities. The real thing i think is mostly ignored is that if you're REALLY bad at the original fight, Chip will warn you that there is no more platforms to fall back on, there is no more ground between you and the molten core of the earth. With that warning, Eggman responds with this dreadfully, eeriely, and almost contented line of "No where left to run." I highly recommend playing it yourself. Generations in atmosphere does feel like a watered down version, but part of that feeds into the narrative of Generations, as its implies for most of the boss fights that some things have changed for the villains benefit, especially for the two fights where Eggmans are involved. By the nature of the narrative in Generations, it is intentionally hollowed out, because plan A was just to see if any of Eggman's plans could have stopped Sonic. You even get that in the cutscene after when Eggman responds with "i really thought i had you this time" after the generations fight. Edit: Something else worthy of note: Dragoon is an actual word! Its common use was a noun to describe a member of a large calvery in british armies. It gives the impression that the "prototype" was meant to be one of hundreds in an army Eggman would use to attain domination of the world

Although I agree that this fundamentally pails in comparison to its original encounter in unleashed, allow me to give a perspective as someone who hadn’t played unleashed or generations before playing Sonic Forces (yes at the time I was a legitimate “noob” to the series. Before playing Sonic Forces my only experience with sonic was Lego dimensions and the Olympic Games.) Even as casual, I recognize phase 1 was a homage to the original Eggman boss fight. Which I was satisfied this was just supposed to be a throwaway callback… but then after defeating the boss suddenly this towering mech rises from the background. Kid me was freaking out thinking “oh my God this is the coolest mech I’ve ever seen!” And then the boss fight changed from Eggman playing with passive defense to him aggressively firing spears at sonic and kicking boulders. Again, once you played the other two bosses, this battle kind of sucks, but I think it is worth noting that for some people, like me we hadn’t played the original fights and such this was the first encounter I had with this legendary machine and I will always remember my first reaction to this beautiful mech suit

@@niknokYT No probably. This is one of my favorite non-sentient robots in the series. And although I’ve learned to appreciate it for how incredible it was in unleashed and to a lesser extent sonic generations, I think a large part of my enjoyment for the machine does come from that initial wonder of seeing this massive show up when I was expecting the boss fight to be just a little call back to the first sonic game. Now I just wish that we could have something that combines the best elements of all three bosses. The spectacle anthem the first fight with all the bells and whistles it had. Then take the split mechanic from generations. And finally take that tail whip from forces which uses to launch pieces of the environment at sonic. I think all three would be the perfect evolution of this machine. (I’d rather see new boss fights, but if they have to bring it back, I think taking notes from all three would be pretty cool)

I think that the egg dragoon is one of the strongest eggman robots! Because with the first cutscene of unleashed. I always assumed that the robot eggman uses, was some kind of prototype of the egg dragoon. I mean it was literally built to counter and kill Sonic! With machine gun fire, that keeps Sonic at bay, homing missles, that can keep up and knock Sonic off balance. And a giant claw hand that can catch Sonic! Like if Sonic didn't have the chaos emeralds, then he probably wouldn't have survived everything that the mech threw at him! Then he upgraded it into the egg dragoon! Which was designed to counter base Sonic since he never really fought against werehog Sonic in the game. The ice and drill upgrades would have probably ended base Sonic, if were being real, but since the werehog form has super strength, then it kinda counters the dragoon!
