It's not really a secret that I hate how catalyst users play in Genshin but I think that Heizou is really fun! In this video I explain why he's fun and what his uniqueness means on a larger scale.

I think catalysts are the most unique type of weapon genshin has (and a lot of variety on how wielders use them, klee throws bombs, ninguang fires 2 rocks at once, heizou punches enemies, lisa producing lightning strikes, etc) and that's why its my favorite weapon type. Its great to see a new 4 star catalyst DPS that feels great to play and does respectable damage

It's my favorite weapon type as well. It's so easy to do reactions around and simple teams. My favorite being yanfei (main dps) with supports like xingqiu, fishcl and diona/Bennet. You have good taste 👌 😌

@@sasha8578 if you're a "real" catalyst main. You know full well that the fantasy of being a catalyst user isn't supposed to be melee. Heizu while a good character doesn't feel like a catalyst. He feels like another sword user. If this is other game he's a fighter not a mage.

The one I'm most exited about is dainslef's gameplay. He coats himself with that abyss magic to enhance his physical abilities, making him sprint like yelan, and he can choke his enemy from afar which is really cool

Yup it totally makes sense. Afterall we all have been asking for a fist fighter and here he comes. And now after experiencing that how much of an awesome all-rounded character he is I am now more excited to see how future catalyst will turn out to be as I've also heard that Scaramouche is going to be a 5 star Anemo Catalyst user and if it's true then I hope that just like Heizou he's a fist fighter too.

Honestly Though Heizou is a catalyst user (basically a mage because catalysts are basically spellbooks/objects with magic) i'm still weirded out to see him basically doing "punches and kicks powered up by elemental magic" So in the end,in my eyes,he breaks the general concept of Catalyst (Magic),but...why not lol,i don't really mind since i don't care about Heizou,gameplay wise. Still,i like him and i am happy he exists,even though i don't like Anemo that much. I do believe that some games/series/movies probably had their moments where a person mixed their physichal strenght with the power at magic within to create a powerful impact (Punch,kick,etc.), it's just not as common. And in the end,i am simply not a big fan of such concept/fighting style. Anyways now i wish they release a female catalyst fist fighter someday,maybe a Hydro one. And male "ranged" Catalyst,maybe cryo,so i can add at least one more male in my team besdies Venti. And no,i don't care about Meta nor about the fact he is a Catalyst DPS done right.

It's so cool that Heizou got all the attention he deserved, cuz they did a really good job creating him. Kazuha was a media and player favorite since lunch and he created a lot of buzz at his time, and now he's back, Heizou still shines so much. Honestly, he's absolutely fun. I play him in my Last Airbender Team, with Yelan, Thoma and Albedo. He's Avatar Aang himself!

This really highlights how ranged mechanics really need to get reworked in the game, melee characters always feel better to play because there's no screwups in the targeting. As someone that mains ningguang I find going in melee range to always be necessary for effectiveness, rendering the whole range mechanic useless

They already reworked it once. The targeting system was worked on for Ayato's release. It included stuff like tightening the arrow accuracy zone on bow users.

Yeah catalyst for me I just don't like how repetitive it feels, 1 2 3 1 2 3 on catalyst and it's so slow, make me feel locked in the animation. Heizhou is much better, hopefully they figure out a ranged version. Bow is ok IMO

you should do a video on tartaglia. i think his kit is very unique from most character back then and even now. his gameplay loop is great and the way he makes the max of both of his stances is wonderful. he's very much like heizou, different for a reason and his easiness to play but high skill ceiling is and feels great. his kit reflects his own character, always improving on the battlefield.

Now I wish a character that use melee weapons but instead, do something like manifesting the weapon power or even control the weapon using telekinesis to do range attack. Like imagine this, launching copies of your weapon like Xingqiu burst, using element to launch weapons forward,... Thers are so many possiblities with how a weapon can be used just because in teyvat, you also use elements and magic, not only physic.

I think the closest to this is that one part in Kuki's NA sequence where she throws a bunch of blades at the enemy as she does a backflip, with an honorable mention being Albedo's who has that one NA where he summons his sword parallel to his arm with his signature flower symbol appearing. I do hope we get more on-field attackers with similar NAs to them but with more range because I'd love to see it, even better if they make that character as cohesive and fun as Heizou :D

before his release i thought "a male catalyst user? cool, i'm probably just gonna get him to complete my 4* collection and that's it" but honestly he's so fun. i don't usually do this but ever since i got heizou i actively tried to search for enemies to fight just because i want to use him more. i gave him my xiao's artifacts at lvl 40 his skill crits like 15k, now at lvl 70 its about 30k? i don't care about damage but holy he beats some of my decently built characters

I would like to share my Heizou performance too. Ive leveled him up to 90 with lvl10 E. With R2 Widsith his max stack E is giving me about 70k when he crits with the Widsith buff. And this is without Benny buff. He is genuinely a very good unit. Update - got his c3 so with Benny buff it goes upto 100k

New creative style, very flexible to build (for an anemo char), very easy to play even without delving deep into his talents, works in many teams bc anemo, well balanced in overall power for a 4*, constellations are nice to have but not crucial for his kit, last but not least- super fun. They knocked it out of the park with this one.

It feels so liberating to not be shackled to 4pc VV with an anemo char for a change. At first I tried to give him 4pc out of habit, but then realized, if I’m making him a DPS I can have _another_ anemo char on the team who will bear the burden of 4pc, so Heizou can rock a 2pc atk set instead. It adds SO much flexibility to building.

Homeboy is shockingly good for what he is. He's relatively easy to build and simple to play, his skill hits like a truck, and he's just fun to use. I really hope that we see more 4 stars like this from Hoyo; that is, not broken, but balanced, flexible, capable and fun. More units like this Hoyo!

Ganyu was a cryo catalyst originally actuallly. Which makes sense with her splash art and her splash charged shot probably being a charged attack like Ningguang/Yanfei's. I'd love to the alt universe with a melee catalyst Zhongli though.

I'd say lack of range is actually a problem with catalysts. One of the issues with Klee is her short range, and she also throws stuff at the ground. Yae's normals are pretty short range. Sucrose... also not exactly long range. Lisa, again, short ranged attacks. And so on. This, combined with their poor defensive aspects (low hp, easy to stagger), makes playing them rough. The only ones I'd say are proper ranged units are Kokomi, Barbara, Mona, Yanfei, and Ningguang. Three of those even have homing attacks. Sadly, two of them are healers, not characters you generally use to attack, and Mona's normals aren't great, plus she pays full catalyst-user price for her charged attacks (barring her constellation that lets her get a chance at some free ones). So that means for on-field ranged DPS, catalysts are pretty much reduced to Yanfei and Ningguang. We really need more, proper, ranged catalyst users in general, be they male or female.

Im just glad that they arent afraid of using no icd skills to benefit an interesting gameplay, you can spam charged atks with Heizou to build stacks really fast, this with his burst also having separated icd makes his kit so cool to use, he looks almost like a 1.0 character but a little bit weaker. His constelations are good too.

yan fei has also been a really good on field dps with her auto/charged atk sigil combat loop and burst that makes them stronger. heizou has definitely improved the catalyst dps playground but he is not the only one. klee is still pretty good and fun to play but yan fei is more optimal than klee's admittedly slight clunkiness for more focused teams. no defence for yae, wouldn't want to since i don't like her. kit and character.

I love heizous gameplay. Honestly his fully stacked skill does more dmg than my Xiaos skill. Xiaos skill does around 9k while heizou does 20k with a full stack and around 1k on his normal atks.

At this point, this should be the trademark of Catalysts. Since the Catalyst, itself, is not directly involved with damaging opponents (such as getting hit by it), the Characters often get away with being able to hold something else. In my opinion, Catalyst Character Class has the benefit of making Characters wield weapons outside the other 4 we already have (Sword, Claymore, Polearm, and Bow), such as throwing projectiles, martial arts, axes, hammers, swinging polearms (greataxes, halberds, and scythes), crossbows, and even guns. If only Genshin Impact allowed us to build our Characters with only Stat-enhancing Items like what MOBA Games like League of Legends does with their Characters so Hoyoverse does not need to only stick to 5 types of Weapons.

I think now in addition to Sucrose and Yanfei Heizou feels like one of the better designed catalyst users the latter two having a much more focused and cohesive design with Yanfei’s main focus as her charged attacks and everything else complimenting that and similarly Heizou’s skill being his main focus but he fulfills the role of driver very well because of his overall kit fluidity. Sucrose’s kit overall still made her a good driver especially in taser comps but her autos weren’t as well designed for driving as opposed to Heizou’s (their biggest difference there is their charged attacks). While Sucrose is an excellent unit I think Yanfei and Heizou just have such more focused, simplified, streamlined designs that still work effectively for their intended purposes.

And don't forget Ning. She's also right up there with Yanfei in terms of being a properly designed ranged character. I'd actually consider her to be the best designed one, in that regard, personally.

That moment when getting a specific 4* is more difficult than a 5*. I experienced that with Gorou: I won my 50-50 on Itto's first banner but I couldn't get the doggo. It was only with the rerun that I was finally able to get him. I still miss Zhongli for a complete geo supremacy team but at least I can finally reveal the full potential of Itto and Albedo. 🪨

@@Gonzora 3.0 leaks suggests that Zhongli will be accompanied by Ganyu, so if you're going for him, I highly advice going all out for his shields. I have Bennett, Itto, Zhongli and Gorou in a party together and the damage Itto dishes out is supplied by his supports and Zhongli is one of them. His debuffing when he casts his shield is unprecedented and supports Itto's damage immensely.

Catalysts are my absolute favorite weapon in the game. Every single character who uses them feels unique, their animations are the most well thought-out and Heizou is no exception. I'll happily take a little bit of clunkier gameplay for style points, but I am also glad that Heizou excels in both regards :)

Yep, the first thing I noticed about Heizo is that his normal and charged attacks are basically copies the sword users. This seemingly small change actually means a lot. It solves the stamina issue and makes him a lot more agile.

I took a break from Genshin for months. I came back only because of the Fatui trailer, and got Heizou on day 1. Heizou's gameplay was the one that pulled me back to play it again much more regularly. A balanced DPS unit that doesn't necessarily need to dish out super big damage, but has fast consecutive attacks and can work really well with teams.

One thing I would like to see is that other characters would have a unique look to their elements like pyro, instead of the usual red flame it would be interesting if there's one that can conjure up blue flame. We did get some differents like how Yae electro is more pink than purple.

No, I disagree with the things you criticize about Catalyst users, the thing that make a Catalyst user is simply their kit. Klee is an old character and has been massively powercrept. Kokomi is absolutely amazing in the right team comp. Yae is an Electro DPS, which are very hard to design due the Reaction system being so limiting to them. Hopefully the new reactions will fix this.

While it's true that there's quite a lot of design space for HVY to tap into, would be nice if they actually attempt to tap into it. For the past year we're been getting only 4* or 5* versions or slightly different versions of existing characters, there's barely any new characters(gameplaywise).

The fact that Heizou does a normal attack with his charged attack and the stamina cost is so low makes him so satisfying to play alongside characters like Xingqiu and Thoma, whose burst effects only activate with normal attacks. His skill is also extremely satisfying with hot high the multipliers are! A very nice touch to round off the niche 4stars we were seeing in Inazuma up until now.

now after heizou being a meele catalyst i want the other way round. i want something like azir. spear but normal attacks deal elemental dmg per defaultand its ranged. a dream would be if cyno already has that (i mean, he is connected to the desert so he *kinda* has similarities to azir already)

What are some good teams for Heizou? I was using him with sub DPSs like Xiangling so he was the driver to the reactions.

Honestly, one of the things I love about the 4 star DPS characters is that they are good for beginners, including Heizou despite being from Inazuma. He uses Ruin Serpent mats, which only makes you go partway through the Chasm world quest to unlock. His skill scaling is really high, so you won't worry about getting to the Raiden boss for a while. Even if he's under leveled, he still deals a respectable amount of damage. The only thing is Onikabuto, but there's some spots that don't require you to explore the entirety of Inazuma to get. Replaying genshin makes me glad i had completed the entirety of Inazuma months before I prefarmed for Heizou in my main account 😅

I got Heizou on the day of his release which was the 9th day after I'd started playing. Even though I didn't know much about the mechanics back then I knew that I hated catalysts. But oh boy did I get lucky with him. It was a pain in the ass to level him up considering I didn't get to Inazuma at that point but even then he was somehow the strongest one and I used him in every single battle. Still do.

That's something MiHoYo should address sometime in the near future. For the other 6 regions, you can simply walk to them. The fact newcomers can and will be locked out on ascending and refining them until they have to speedrun the first two chapters of the Archon Quests feels bad. Have a lost Inazumian merchant in Liyue that sells you a handful of ascendation materials before you unlock Inazuma would be a good starting place.

@@Toonrick12 yes!!! And maybe make it more clear you can't get to Inazuma through the ocean. Like, put a barrier closer to Liyue. I'd spent two hours building ice bridges just to drown after getting struck by a lightning over and over again like an idiot. This and an NPC selling onikabutos would save me so much time and nerves.

@@miketaya8128 The closest in terms of gameplay might be Seele Styagian Nymph in HI3. Honkai also have several cases where set weapons dosen't fit fighting style at all. Its a good thing, since new weapon types won't be needed. Adding new weapon types in Genshin might be a problem in gacha due to the added pool, plus the capacity is limited enough.

So, what I am grasping with catalyst (and bow characters) from both the video and comments is that ranged combat in Genshin does not translate well into the late/endgame. How can this be improved? One thought I have is looking into the corresponding character's constellations, but that system does need some more tinkering, especially for Amber, Kaeya and Lisa. Is there any catalyst or bow character atm with normal attacks that can pierce through multiple enemies in a straight line? Might be interesting if those character's attacks could hit through shields too.

Would you do a video on useless ascension passives like diluc charge attacks or Jean or ayato energy refund when they could have had lower cost to begin with. Something that doesn't add to the characters but pseudo buffs them in a roundabout way ?

They won't have innately lower costs because cost is a function of recharge time. If your recharge time is 20s, you will have a base cost of 80 energy. If it is 10, it'll cost 40. And 15 sits between those two at 60. The reason why you have those refund passives is because most characters get an energy related constellation. The reason why those refund ones exist is to increase the variety in terms of those things.

I got C6 heizou because i pulled for both Kazuha and Alhaitham (which i regret because i don't use alhaitham) and lost both 50/50s. I love him very much, I use him with Beidou, Fischl, and Barbara and it's honestly super fun.

I seriously love how fast his normal attacks are, it makes up for their low MVs by having 100 attacks fly at ~~your fo~~ Criminals to trigger swirls then launch a miniature nuclear strike with his E I really want to know how he would turn out if he was designed as a 5 star character tbh.

I just saw this video and realized the next character, Scaramouche, also does this well: -He can hit multiple enemies with each attack -He can stagger enemies very easily thanks to his swirl reactions (he still has the problem of getting staggered, but shields solve it) -His charged attacks, from what we know at the moment, don't cost stamina when he is airborne -He does't have to dodge almost any attack, because he flies, so having range feels beneficial I just wanted to point this out in case you decide to talk abut him in the future

Yanfei is the smoothest catalyst Hoyo released prior to Heizhou. At 3 stacks she gains interruption resistance (further boosted if you have her C1) and her CA's are fluid compared to Ning and Klee. Don't get me wrong, Heizhou is smoother than Yanfei. I just want to emphasize that hoyo had made a smooth catalyst user prior to Heizhou. Also, I have a strong hunch that Hoyo just don"t want male catalyst user fight in range because it would look al little funny 😂

Yup, my lv 79 heizou w lv 6 E can deal around 30k in floor 11 abyss. So if u enjoy him, build him well. He's fun to use, pack a punch, and swirl application is fast! :)
