An in depth analysis of the gameplay design of Yae Miko, limited 5-star character recently released in Genshin Impact's 2.5. Hopefully you can tell why I feel that her kit is very poorly designed in many different ways.

for those mentioning that "the triangle is too small" for my proposed idea yeah... I know that when I said "though it would admittedly be much more difficult to implement" I had assumed everyone would understand that includes the many smaller changes that would also have to be added to make the ability feel right and properly fit the gameplay style it's going for (stuff like sakura tether length and dash length) 100% my fault, that's what happens when I'm the only one proofreading my scripts so everything makes perfect sense in my head lol

She's definitely fun to play but one thing I noticed which was annoying is that her normal/charged attacks hit very low and straight. If there's a hilichurl up on its tower, yae's attacks won't hit (whereas Kokomi's will track up and will hit).

Her Charge Attack has such a long animation... and her Normal Attacks are fast but really don't do much damage

You need to be really close to the enemies and remember Yae will die with 1 to 2 hits because of her low hp/def.

@@Quaderyl yeah cuz ur not rlly supposed to use them for real dmg as she’s an off field sub dps but in situations where you don’t have a ranged char in the overworld, it’s kinda annoying how her normals just dmg in a straight line instead of homing in on enemies

Yeah the charge is an insanely long animation. I'd be fine with it if they made it scale really well so you're rewarded for successfully pulling it off, but... It doesn't. You can cancel part of it, but you still have to hold it really long or it'll cancel the skill (compared with, say, Klee - and I know because I've compared the required timing frame by frame 😅)

Her elemental skill already deals with that, so why would I want to use the basic attack of and off field DPS?

One thing she really deserved was an alternate sprint, she's like the head shrine maiden and it really doesn't suit her thematically to walk since she delegates tasks to her subordinate shrine maidens, so it would've been nice if she got at least a special looking dash like Hutao, heck even Kokomi has her Jesus gimmick so why not?

You know as much as I like her I felt like something was off while I was playing her it just didn't feel right for a limited 5 star then i realised her kit is wonky as hell. Raiden is basically her but better.

Fischl especially fills the same off field sub dps role as yae but more efficiently, higher uptime and much less field time. Apparently at CN server there’s a viral conspiracy that yae was originally designed to be an on field NA/CA dps but mhy changed it during development. It’s on tentens channel if you’re interested, personally after seeing the receipts it makes a lot of sense to me

@@curryfishheadenjoyer yeah it honestly makes a lot of sense, the normal cleaves in short range, charged has a super flashy cleaving animation compared to any other catalyst, and E skill is animated/designed like it was intended to be a dodge/supplemental dmg rather than main part of kit (useful mainly for on field dps/CA spam). And the burst requiring 3 totems makes way more sense if she's already on field spamming totems as dodges.

Yeah, having to recast all 3 charges of her elemental skills after casting her burst is really huge inconveniece for alot of players. I really wish they change it to just extend/refresh the duration. And maybe have her cast some kind of buff for your party whenever she uses her burst. So that her 90 cost burst makes a little more sense rather than just a highly expensive burst for the sake of it being expensive. I mean, some flat EM bonus would be nice since Yae herself can benefit from it due to her A4 passive and its could make her viable as electro enabler for teams like Hutao/Xiangling Over-vape. She have so much potential and she honestly kinda dissapoint at this moment.

I almost balled out all my primos for her until I played her in the trial and atleast for me she felt more like you would pay for a character flex rather than a character to play

Imagine having Yae just have 3 of her turrets around her after her burst instead of just resetting her skill cooldown that would make her so much better

personally, I like her kit because it’s mobile, fun, and chaotic but I need to say that the setup takes so much time. I like playing her *except in the abyss* where Fischl is safer and faster to use.

i have both Fischl and Yae but i completed 12-3 in abyss for the first time with Yae on my team. Fischl is much easier and friendly to use, but Yae's Elemental Skill deals damage more frequently and her ulti's damage can be maximised pretty easily and hits pretty hard too. The downside is that it doesn't feel good using her if you are not familiar with her style becuz when i first started playing her, she feels very stiff and stuck, not as mobile as other characters especially during her E when you need to wait for her gliding animation to finish, and then reset the direction to form a specific triangle. But now I'm used to it so it felt alright for me. I guess for my case I needed more raw damage that's why a quick swap DPS like Yae works better for me. If you lack supports and electro applicator, Fischl is a wonderful choice for you.

i actually use both yae and fischl in my kokomi taser team along with xingqiu, it’s a very comfy and fun team imo!! fischl batteries yae with no problem at all for me, though she does have eosf and fav bow. was my second 36* clear too

Actually, according to some tests, each new stack gained for her weapon resets the duration of the previous stacks. So almost every catalyst character can use it, but it’s not ideal for most of them

Yep, stack mechanics in Genshin works like this by default. Each new stack always refreshes the duration of older stacks unless it's explicitly mentioned to be independent (Thundering Pulse, Mistsplitter, Blackcliff weapons).

@@userneim7673 And thats where youre wrong, new Blackcliff stacks dont refresh currently held stacks. One of the reasons the passive is never assumed to have more than one relevant stack and it dropping in viability. It even explicitly states that all the stacks are independent from each other in the passive Never assume anything works in a way by default because similar mechanics work that way. You even have to question the translation of certain abilities or passives, as seen with the misleading english translation of skyward blade before its fix. Most of the english community thought it adds 20% damage for the longest time, and not add another damage instance based on 20% of your attack like CP

Was about to say this. Kagura is BiS for Klee, Ning, Yanfei, Yae and Lisa if you building for DPS. Its a Catalyst Staff of Homa but with a passive that works on everyone that would want to use it. Imagine if Homa was increase atk% on elemental skill casts or something

I love how hopeful people still are towards future changes to released characters like as if Mihoyo had any history of doing anything about it. For the record, we have had no changes for any character after their release, the only exception was Zhongli. At this point, we have no hope in whatever change we want in her kit because they will not do anything about it. I really wish in the future that I will be wrong though.

The only real QoL updates we can expect for characters at this point are tailor made artifact sets for those that don't already have them. But with the next sets being geared towards Yoimiya/Ayato and Xiao, we can't expect a Yae set for another 3 updates or so.

just one thing: the buff you talking actually ruin Zhongli, a character should be balanced, not broken, and because his buff (remember: made for political reason, not for gameplay purpose) now people feels forced to have Zhongli (i remember a meta slave once said "if you don't have Zhongli your account have no value") it's not like more op is a character better it become, Spyral Abyss should be a challenge, not something that should be trivial because you have op characters

I always just stop the video when they start talking about even the slight design changes to a character. MiHoyo is never going to do them. They'll much rather focus on the upcoming characters that are the ones that are bringing the next big batch of cash in.

They do change something. But it’s not the character-they’ll make an artifact that’ll revolutionize how she’s used like Kokomi, or create enemies that she’ll be particularly good at. Personally, I think they might make an artifact rather than an enemy.

they should add a mechanic on her E where if you long press , it will immediately spawn 3 sesshou sakuras , while tapping only spawn 1 so that they dont really need to remove the chance for players to dash around also adding some I frames to it would be nice

Hard agree with this. Having her 3 totems on a long press is far better than having to manually place them down. Not to mention if they're too close to each other the recent one will not spawn and in return lowers her DPS and lost a charge.

I kinda disagree though, you have to add some kind of drawback to make it more like a tactical choice than an obvious one. If you make it like that people will 100% of the time use the hold version more and make the press version useless. I think almost every character that have this two versions offers different uses altogether no matter how small, even Zhongli's fast e press can be used on c1 to spam more pillar. Maybe if you add a casting animation and make it as slow as Zhongli's then it might be great. I think the skill needs rework overall.

@@aivreescend7945 zhongli is a support so being slow caster is okay with him and no one would complain . In yae's case she's a dps so people want her cast time to be fast so she can deal damage immediately. Since her scaling rn is high asf so people want to utilize that much faster

I kinda feel bad honestly. I hope reworks can happen in the future since as the game evolves and time continues, everyone should eventually get stronger. I really hate loving a character for who they are and immediately despise them as soon as you try to play them. It gets me excited that competition will soon come like the Solo Levelling and Seven Deadly Sins games that can make hoyoverse work harder.

I'm hoping for reworks too. Mainly for Klee though, her kit is literally broken(as in not working, not op). Though, given how long it took Honkai to fix their old valkyries with outdated kits, I don't have any hopes for the near future.

@@La4geas All they need to do for Klee is let her burst stick around when Klee goes off field. Squishy DPS into incredibly powerful pyro support in an instant, imagine the near constant reverse vape or melt.

I do like what she has though, its kinda fun weaving back and forth between enemies with her spamming E, and doing a _TURBO SMITE_ comp with Raiden, Yae, and Sara is excellent. Though, for the character that's canonically playing 5D chess with her trickery, they definitely coulda added more depth to her than "Fischl with extra steps" edit: dafuq you guys doing down there

I would have wanted a branching playstyle with her turrets. Like three turrets in three taps would have weaker dmg but have independent icd for electro reactions (EM build), and then a long press E spawning a larger single turret (one can exist only) with bigger AoE damage for standard dps build. The dash animation really needs to be fixed tho. It really looks like it would have I.frame. If they want to keep her vulnerable during the dash, that’s fine as long as we can visually see that.

@@Vizible21 Imagine the burst resets the turret duration instead of destroying them. Suddenly she would be a much smoother unit in a Raiden comp. Now she kinda gets in the way with that and when my Benett Buff and Kazuha Buff are down I skip her burst or use it and don't renew her turrets so I don't waste Buff uptime for my Raiden.

@@Vizible21 that’s not…. Electro Shenhe almost at all? Doesn’t do alternative buffs on each different cast choice? Built for pure dps instead of buffing? Does active DoT and Electro application from turrets cast instead of one singular attack explosion? It would only be similar via the fact that you have a casting choice and that’s it. That’s like saying Yun jin is Geo Beidou because she also happens to counter.

One thing that annoys me even more about Yae’s elemental skill not being able to iFrame, is that in her character demo she uses her elemental skill to avoid the attack of a ronin in the animation sequence near the end, even if it doesn’t summon the Sesshou Sakura it’s still the only skill in her kit that teleports her, yet in game when she does this she can’t iFrame!

well seeing how the cn reacted to her kit maybe mihoyo would do another zhongli treatment just like last time, since they only listen to cn community , anyway if they really want a 3 cast E to remain then its fine , but they could have make another mechanic for her where if you long press the E she immediately drops 3 sesshou sakura for immediate construct while if you only tap the skill it only spawns 1 sakura at a time , i think that would be nice if they change it like that , because some players really like spawning 1 at a time only so i guess its nice not to remove that mechanic.

Inazuma characters really doesn't make any feel of urge of pulling for them (except for Kazuha, Raiden and Ayaka), 4-stars are super niche, ascension passive that doesn't make sense or just make them a "little better". I don't know why they should give this characters this design and just "niche so they can be unique". Yae suck in Honkai(for me) but I like her character in Genshin but in meta she's meh. Like the Hydro Maiden if Yae hold her E she should imprison enemies.

I love thoma as a character but I would never play as him Sayo uniqueness is really interesting since she's designed mostly for exploration Gorou is like the most niche character in the game, basically part of Itto's base moveset (which I dont mind cuz i play itto/gorou/zhongli) And now a 5* that requires another 5* to work well

10:20 there's actually a theory going around the CN community brought up is that MHY likes to repurpose, redesign or scrap weapons/characters. MHY did intend Yae to be an on-field DPS during development. That's why her normal and charge attacks are unique and her skill takes a bit of time. But when it came time to push her out to beta, they made her sub-dps.

I wish the electro application from the turrets didn’t happen in bolts, but in a radial, AoE motion (sort of a venn diagram shape). That way, Yae could be the most consistent Electro AoE applier in the game.

And suddenly placing three turrets would make sense. You can cover a huge area and hit multiple chunks of enemies. Or if you overlap them you get more damage on a small area. I don't understand why they didn't make it like that. Now it feels like unnecessary extra steps. Also make the burst reset her turrets not destroy them! It is so expensive. So what is the price of admission worth if not for that?

An easy example, electro samachurl's turret. I thought when I heard about yae's leaked kits being about placing totems it would be similar to that electro samachurl's with circular AOE on every totems but nope it turns out to be a single targeted attacks that randomly hitting enemies.

Kagura’s Verity is also usable for Yanfei and Klee (and many other characters not only Yae or Lisa), as their duration reset when the elemental skill is used. Therefore, they can stack up full to 3 stacks (but may take time) because their cooldowns are less than 16s.

@@offnet6934 actually no Homa is pretty good on a lot of characters. The ATK buff when lower HP is so powerful it useable by any DPS it sup-status is universal need to. The HP buff when not that need but it a useful status for DPS that normally have low HP.

Okay but that doesn't change the fact this is twice now MiHoyo have given us some flawed catalyst characters lol. Kokomi less so than Yae but still.

For Kokomi, reset CD is actually better than reset duration since with this we don't have to think too much about timing her skill. But for Yae, yes reset duration would be better and her totems should not get destroyed.

Making the problem then selling the solution becoming the norm is extremely saddening. That, and character gameplay design is starting to feel more and more non-unique, which I do not understand since other games have proven that there are a lot more effects and nuances you can include in abilities than what we have so far in Genshin. Some parts of the problem might also stem from characters only having two active abilities. To me the obvious fix is to give all characters a secondary elemental skill down the lifetime of Genshin (obviously, the energy costs of Bursts will have to be adjusted accordingly), resulting in an additional dimension in which they can 'balance' character power budget. I agree with all of that. I also still don't understand why many character uses the same NA, CA, PA animation (also same skill like taunt, etc). Looking at Honkai, I see each of the character has different animation (battle style). I wonder what's the developers been doing for a year.

I think Mihoyo is lacking a lot of creativity as of late, really shows that they’re running out of ideas on how they want to display a characters burst and elemental skill.. and they’re focusing too much on how they could sell.

The range of her sessou sakuras is also pitifully small. And if there is anything on the ground, the shape is distorted to an incredibly sharp angled triangle. It's pathetic. It would feel better if they were all placed in one cast with a wider range in a press and hold set up, and/or a place three with quick taps in any formation and just have ramp up damage in an aoe from the totems themselves.

Electro is still badly in need of an element-wide buff like geo got, but the thing that's weird to me about Miko is that she has a crit ascension passive. While Ganyu, Hu Tao, Ayaka and Yoimiya all have ways of doing damage off-field, Miko is the only crit passive character with no reason to stay on field after using her abilities. I think a way to improve Miko could either be to change electro resonance to have some kind of buff to basic attacks as a result of casting a skill, giving Thundering Fury 4-set bonus more use; or similarly Miko gives herself more basic attack damage by using her skill. You could even have this second one be a trade off - 1 turret does the least damage by itself but gives the largest basic attack buff.

U right. That crit ascension passive made me think i needed to built crit on her. After using her for several days now it occurs to me that her high-cost burst (so slow and even misses) and the rapid yet tiring elemental skill set-up + the slow charged attack makes her better as an off-field damage dealer instead. So for an electro applicator with off-field damage, she needs more consistency rather than crit. She's even squishy, so not having Zhongli or Kokomi's help at all times is a risk. I find myself not using her charged attacks and bursts despite my hard work putting 60/200 crit dmg. Her normal attacks do too little damage to stay on field after placing her foxes. Experimental dodging with her is quite fun in open world but it's also easy to fail and get knocked back so quick my jellyfish 6k heal per tick can't heal her quickly enough. Well, at least she'll synergize well with Ayato. Maybe. I'm not fixed on it too much since we have lots of characters to play with, but she is a 5 star that people paid for the least they could do is match the Passive Stat % with the character's ability.

@@asi3136 ahh, thanks!! So let's say i'm using Kokomi and Kazuha alongside Yae, and I constantly use electro charge when I can. Do I use Wanderer's Troupe and stack EM + ATK% or just the usual Thundering Fury and stack crit? That 60/200 crit thing.. is from a 4pc wanderer's troupe set i put on Yae.

There's a theory that Yae Miko is supposed to have Shimenawa's meanwhile Yoimiya is Retracing Bolide. But it is all changed last minute because the devs doesn't have a lot of time to work on the characters. It make sense for Yae to be initially marketed as a DPS on field if you take Shimenawa as her on slot artifacts. There's also a veryyy early leak way before Yae is announced that she has good Normal and Charged. I feel like something is changed and Yae isn't supposed to be like that. Dunno tho

If you take Yae at c2 (level 4 turrets and a burst cost reduced to around 60) and level her autos, 4 piece shim's passive places her autos close to her turrets in terms of damage. Put her in any basic reaction team (preferably with a battery like vv Sucrose) and she mades for a half decent driver. Also, always use her charged attack before her burst no matter what role Yae fills because the scaling is decent, the aoe is decent for grouped enemies (again think vv sucrose) and her burst animation looks a lot less jank because she's using both of her kitsune's

i have a couple of ideas, first is to make it so that when she uses her burst, instead of consuming her turrets she empovers them for a couple of seconds, and the second idea is that i would give her e a hold mode, where she charges for like two seconds and then she uses all her turrets in a triangle and also does a burst of dmg

Wouldn't be cool if her second passive talent is like: for every seisshou sakura is destroyed, the cool down for her ult is decreased by 18% or 20%. That way she can be that one catalyst that actively main her burst

I feel particularly conflicted after pulling for Yae, I thought she'd be like Itto, true potential hidden through mechanic or even set up (Itto in ult deals the best DPS from my entire roster, and when he's off ult I just set down Albedo and the damage still stacks up). Seeing how Yae is criticized doesn't really make me angry, but rather sad for it, because she's a character I like, and worked my ass off to get. A character like her who I'll probably drop if I get frustrated with artifacts and damage too fast. I'm not asking for Ganyu, or Hu Tao, or Xiao's, but I think Hoyoverse really fucked up Yae by adding a paywall in the form of her cons to help, not only that, but the problems present in the video (Even if I do like her elemental skill because it doesn't feel immobile, my built Baal, Zhong and Bennett help a lot too). Hopefully a true 4 piece set for her can fix this.

Mihoyo needs a clear understanding on what they want their characters to be/do. Is this character going to be meta? Is this character going to be fun? Is this character going to be fun and meta? etc. It's lame to think of it as "This character is just going to be a cash grab" because if that's the case, then wow that shows a lot from them.

The elemental skill should have worked like this: Using the hold skill summons all 3 totems in a triangle formation around Yae Miko (and it is much faster than just using 3 totems one at a time). Using the press skill still summons the totems 1 at a time, but they also have initial summoning damage that can generate a particle guaranteed. With these two changes, Yae Miko's subdps rotation is basically Hold E > Q > EEE. Her time onfield is cut down a lot, and also the Tap E can refill some of her energy. Also, having at least some frontloaded skill damage can offset the time spent placing down the turrets. If that's not enough, then maybe her Asc 4 passive should be changed to increase all Electro Damage with EM, instead of just skill damage. Combined with her somewhat slow firing turrets, it can create the niche where she can deal loads of raw damage AND reaction damage. (This is technically what hoyoverse already thought about, but it really should extend to her entire kit)

personally, i would do this: tap: yae dashes backwards, dropping the totems in a triangle, dealing periodic damage to those caught inside. hold: yae dashes forwards, dealing an initial burst of damage, and dropping totems in a row. these totems are the vanilla targeting type. burst: yae strikes an area, dealing bonus damage if they have recently taken damage from her skill as an aoe electro explosion. i like what you did with asc 4 passive

My problem with Yae's kit is that even it Hoyoverse release a dedicated support and an artefact set for her, it still wouln't be enought to fix her kit that makes no sense, and that the only way to fix her is with a rework, which is even more sad since they only did it with Zhongli and is highly unlikely that they'll make an exception for her.

The fact we consider it unlikely for Mihoyo to do the bare minimum and offer small changes to existing characters is genuinely the sad bit for me. They can easily fix her and any other character within minutes, literally requiring them to add a singular variable and/or remove certain code. It's so mind bogglingly simple its complexity for Mihoyo's developers is similar of an illiterate person getting into Unity engine, moving that default cube up down and right or changing its title to "ICUP", so why can't Mihoyo do something as basic as that to the existing characters?

Not to mention it’s _extremely_ hard to make it go in the right direction if you play with controller. It’s much less sensitive to small angles in direction than PC controls or mobile, and the CA will miss a lot of times.

When I first saw the leak I knew something was missing on her, something was dull in her gameplay. I actually love the effect of her skill and burst. But I get that feeling that something they left out in her that makes her stand out that it makes her dull to me. This is just my opinion. Great power always gets bad side effects

Yea ngl i'm pretty disappointed. I didn't look at her kit at all before getting her because I was planning to get her no matter what because of her character, but when I explored her kit I can clearly remember my first thought being "...is that it?" :( The EM passive feels so out of place, she's hard to use without Raiden because of the high burst cost, the lines that connect the sesshou sakura when you have 3 down don't even interact with the enemy (I thought it could be like those electro leyline disorders in domains), and it just takes a lot of time to set up all the turrets all the time, lowering your dps (while her skill also gets stuck on thr littlest of pebbles). I'm still gonna use her because she flows nicely and feels fluid, and is still unique, but i feel like i could drop her any moment to get my Fischl back. Edit: yep, it's Fischl time

tbh, even with my Raiden, I find it difficult getting the burst for Miko back, which is weird because Raiden gets her burst back for herself, but Miko's only refills half-way. It's like they want us to sacrifice dmg for smoother Miko gameplay, I might have to sacrifice getting a good, fleshed out character just so I can get a c1 Miko. ridiculous.

There are videos on bilibili that show a high investment team of Raiden, Yae, Xiangling, Bennett and that the exact same team clears abyss one second faster without using Yae. At high investment the value of field time increases as no matter how powerful your stats are you will always be limited on time.

@@leek_san I only use Yae for the overworld since I have a Hu tao. I got Yae for her looks, never did I expect her to be a DPS at Ganyu OR Hu tao lvl, but she feels a little too stiff, like Jean and her attacks. My current team is Raiden, Yae, ZL, and then I either switch with Bennett, or Jean.

It really is a shame, but Yae Miko has proven very dissapointing at C0, with a costly elemental burst that can easily be outdamaged by even 4 star units with much more manageable energy costs, an elemental skill with poor energy generation (making the burst issue even worse), targeting issues, long deployment times without any kind of protection (i-frames/hyperarmor), as well as requiring as much on-field time as a dedicated main damage unit in order to be properly buffed. Her passive talents also have problems, as her passive talent 1 requires her to redeploy her elemental skill after using her elemental burst instead of a much more practical effect of simply refreshing totem duration, and her passive talent 2 increases her elemental skill damage based on her elemental mastery stat, which has really low value for any electro units as transformative reactions suffer from low scaling, no critical hits and internal cooldowns. A much better ability would be to base the damage scaling on energy recharge, therefore motivating players to use weapons such as the Oathsworn Eye, Hakushin Ring and Favonius Codex, as well as the Emblem of Severed Fate artifact set, since the ratio between damage and burst uptime would be much more balanced. Overrall, Yae Miko at C0 really has no role to fill that can't already be better filled by Fischl and Beidou, which have comparable if not better off field damage and much more manageable energy costs. Not only that, but locking her energy regeneration potential behind her first constellation seems disingenuous, as the company is basically creating a problem with their unit that can only be fixed by actively spending money, which is a very insidious business model that seeks to act on the gray area at the limits of the Chinese regulations. I love the character, don't get me wrong, but she has obvious problems that can't be overlooked.

I think it would have been neat if each level of turret had different properties besides just their damage. Like if level 1 fired more rapidly and generated more particles, level 2 had some sort of resistance shred, and level 3's strikes had AOE. There might be a better way of doing it, but it would basically give you a reason to play with how you arrange her turrets.

Great video! I personally really like playing Yae Miko, but I can understand where people's criticisms come from and she can definitely be improved. I was lucky enough to get her first constellation, which also resolves the energy recharge problem. I just think that shouldn't have been locked behind a constellation in the first place

The point about her signature weapon, it's actually a lot more viable for a lot of characters, bcs every time you use Elemental Skill, all the stack bonuses are reset, so as long as your chars have low CD E, like Ning Guang, Sucrose..., you will get all stacks eventually. It's just that Yae gets there faster.

I get where you're coming from, and I appreciate that you've given your opinion without being condescending. I've seen negative videos that end up being really, really toxic, and I always feel gross. One correction, since you asked, but her weapons passive resets with every skill, so it's actually viable on more units. I didn't know this until I saw a couple of videos about it. Anyway, personally, I'd just like to see 3 things: s during her skill, a dedicated 4pc artifact set, and a proper electro buff (perhaps unlikely at this point). Yae's otherwise fine imo, and I enjoy playing her. I do wish more had been addressed while she was in beta, though.

I also enjoy playing her. Sure, I was kinda delusioned (from her trailer) that her skill has i-frame and her CA has high interruption point(?). But I have fun sliding around like crazy and really appreciate her unique kit. Most people might already used to 1-click-then-swap for an off field character, so a 3-click mechanic feels so off putting.

XD I also enjoy placing her skill, though maybe the payoff could be better--an AOE, as was suggested, would be cool. I'm fine with the criticisms, as long as nobody talks down to me or other Miko fans, and sure, she could be improved. I certainly invite it.

Idk maybe it’s just because I’m new to the game but I’ve really enjoyed playing with Yae Miko. I enjoy her 3 click ability since it helps with the kind of “flowy” movement she has and helps with dodging and positioning. I jump between her and yanfei and have never loved combat as much as this. But I’m also only ar5 so idk 😅

well im ar58 and it is fun. did you know you can kill boars with it? Her E can hit all the nearby cats in Monstadt again and again, the thrill multiples if you placed some pets within a room in your teapot. Her normal and charged attack can kill fishes in the water.

Idk why but I like her more (as a sub dps) than other electro supports eg fischl Because each sesshou sacura deals dmg independly they can be spread out to cover large field and deal dmg to more opponents or focused in one point so they deal 3x dmg to single opponent And I don't really use her burst since it's really annoying but it doesn't really bother me I like playing her as a sub dps bc of how smooth her skill feels and the synergy with sucrose (crowd control and em) My only major complaint is that she creates a sesshou sacura after she dash, not before

4:18 I'm sorry idk why everyone is saying that Kokomi's example makes more sense when its just about give and take. One isn't necessarily better than the other. Yae's burst lets you move her turrets if all the enemies moved or spawned on the other side of the map, but takes time to set up again. Kokomi's has to stay in place but you dont need to spend time to set it up. You give time spent on field for the flexibility of turret location placement. 5:22 I believe this is a good reason for Yae's reset mechanic. You dont have to wait 12 seconds to move all 3 of your turrets across the map. Overall though, I see why her kit is pretty jank, but idk if I can agree on the level of "jank-ness" to be near Yoimia's Edit: on further thought, it would make more sense for Kokomi's and Yae's reset mechanics to be swapped since Yae's turret range is much larger than Kokomi's jellyfish AoE. Kokomi wants to be able to move her skill because its smaller range while Yae can live without moving her turrets right next to the enemy all the time. 🤔

You don't always need to move your totems, the totems have a decent range and if you can aggro the enemies properly, you can make sure that they stay near enough. But your edit, yes that's exactly what I think too.

Maybe in order to make the casting after the burst good and incentive is to make it after using the burst for a few seconds recasting the skills regenerates 10 energy for each seishou sakura.

Gosh, I've never been bothered by her skill that much because I like the moving aspect of it, but now I realize that having to cast the skill 3 all the time makes no sense when they could have made it a single cast to deploy all three. I love Yae, but I really do wish they rework her a bit. It's like we're all beta testers, but we're in the beta forever :(

@@TJ_Sind2000 Honestly, after a few days of playing her, I think I just want 2 changes to her kit. 1. Increase the animation speed of her skill to be on par with Xiao (might look ugly idk haha just make it cast faster) 2. Let the first strike of the Sesshou Sakura happen on activation of the skill. This just makes using the skill less of a chore. All other turret-style characters have it (albedo, fischl, support Kokomi).

I find this character interesting in how she has split the community. And both parties have equally valid argument. (1) Players who love her because of her playstyle. Probably because they recognize that she is very different from any previously released character. For those who really understand the real purpose of her totems these can be really fun and useful. Unfortunately, these are the most misunderstood part of her kit. (2) Players who are more meta focused / conventional players who just wanted Yae Miko to be a catalyst powerhouse or at least a good component of a quick swap team. These she definitely are not so I fully understand why this group is so disappointed; especially with all the hype prior to her release. In all honesty; even though I love her playstyle, I can think of no good logical reason to include her in an abyss team. The fault is totally with MHY; if they were going to do something so different; they should have been a lot clearer in explaining her in the first place. As is, her different playstyle were just bylines in her intro video and are easily missed or misunderstood by many people; especially if they were not viewing these with an analytical eye.

@@klutzkoady4996 Yes; but this will be kind of a long explanation so please bear with me. (1) Her totems are not just turrets; if placed strategically you can use them to establish kill zones (amongst other things). Yae's role is not just to dps; she is used to allow players to set up traps and kill zones for mobs. That's why there are three turrets (like why Geo Traveller has 3 constructs) this number offers max. flexibility. (2) Totems are redeployable and they can stagger. ie. They can impede movement. This is where their true values lie rather than as merely dps tools. Also and this is very important, they form the root element for elemental reactions. (3) Yae's doesn't do her own killing; her damage output (without reactions) is very so-so (unless you buy constellations for her). Instead you use her to establish kill zones or create tactical opportunities and use another character(s) from another element to do the real damage. But she works very well in an all electro team too. Honestly, if you set up your tactics with Yae right you'll be grinning like she does in her Ult animation. She is so much fun and gives ample opportunities for creative mayhem. Also the video above is wrong in some ways. For example, you only need a single totem to create reactions. This makes her totem deployment strategy very flexible. (3) In a nutshell, Yae gives an intelligent player total control over the battlefield. She is extremely flexible and in a pinch you can even use her in the regular manner (drop turrets, Q, drop turrets, swap out). Yae is a kitsune, a trickster, the joker in the deck. Take advantage of these traits, get into her character's mindset and you will easily understand how she really should be played. She absolutely makes Genshin Impact combat a much more interesting part of the game. I will not quibble that she can't be improved but as is, if used as the game designers intended, she is an absolute gem.

"Different from any other released characters" isnt that what we all expect from an event 5* character as bare-minium? And I'm pretty sure people are not mad because she's not a powerhouse, it's just that there are so many flaws in her kit despise it have a huge potiental. Also, I'm not the type to really care about the meta at all but yae for me isn't fun to use at all because of the kit problem i mentioned above. All you really do with her is e-e-e and it gets tiring extremely fast not to mention her 90 energy burst that takes ages to fill back up unless you have a battery and like around 150 er. That's just my opinion, idk about others tho

@@kellenross1694 Her basic kit is not flawed. The problem is people don't understand her kit. If you just play her E-E-E I too would have the same opinion as you indicated. The trick is how and where you deploy the 3 totems. To fully understand this go find a group of hillichurls. Drop totems near them; just start with one and then watch what happens. Then drop the others and see what happens. In a nutshell and very crudely, the totems are used to establish kill zones. People love Venti because of his ability to group enemies, immobilize them and then destroy them using elemental reactions. Yae's totems work similarly but are far more dynamic. Just get out of the mindset that Yae works like other units. She does not; her kit is very innovative but it does force players to use her intelligently. By the same token her kit makes her very meta unfriendly because her kit does not play well in a standard rotation since the totems need to be deployed depending on tactical situations which by nature are dynamic. MHY is a company that likes to challenge players mentally, hence all the puzzle games in the open world. What they did with Yae was to give players a character that can dynamically control a battlefield situation. If you understand the full significance of this you will truly appreciate what a gem this character is. If you don't, well she will in your experience, really suck. Some people will love her, others will think she is meh. Both parties are right.

something i believe it would make her gameplay intresting is that she can use 3 totems, but the ammount of totems she uses affect the way the totems are enhanced and act, like, if there is only one, it has the max atk or enhanced crit rate, or the thunder explodes but are slow in atk, but if you use 2, the electro inflicted lasts longer or enhances electro damage, at the cost of half power, and if you use 3, they have the lowest atk, but a buff in elemental mastery and max hits per tic the problem is that there is no choice when you use her, there is only 1 right way to use her, so variating in more than just power per totem you can actually have a choice, i believe it would be better if the burst cost and time was reduced and instead the totems are the one who have long cooldown time, and the burst has the mechanical use to erase the totems whithout cooldown, so using totems have a risk benefit, that can only be fixed or changed with the burst, i believe that woudn't be so hard to program in an update

Agreed, there is also a rumour that before beta starts yae had 3 possible kits, but they chose the weakest one for some reason A bit sad that a yae, was casted to the side by MHY On top of what you already said, her elemental burst had no reason to cost 90 energy, it doesn't do anything than damage, and it's not even that big And the fact that she offers 0 utility is also really odd, because even razor had some utility in his constellation (def shred)

I was building pity for shogun, and also wanted Jean, so I wished a few times and got Yae Miko. I was super upset, but I figured she seemed strong so it wasn’t all that bad. But maybe a day after I got her I realized she was extremely hard to play (as a mobile user) and had many of the issues you talked about. I hope they give her a buff, because now I don’t even want to build her much.

I pulled for yae and even got her weapon I personally dont mind her play style at all, I think she's super strong and I like playing with her but I am not a huge meta player, so I cant really say much though the possibility of having different formations for the sesshou sakuras sounds very fun

I think they should buff her normal and charge attack multiplier and make her an on field dps. They should also make the animation of her normal and charge attack faster. Then add super armor or i-frame on her e for survivability. Then boom the problem is already solved. The casting of her e won't matter anymore. Funneling of energy would be much easier since she's always on the field.

I didn't get her but i played her trial several times because i thought i enjoyed her gameplay. I'm not a meta player so my problem was more on her mobility. I know catalyst users are generally slow to attack (with i think sucrose and kokomi being the fastest actually), but that didn't bother me all that much. My issue was whenever she used her E skill, there's a point in the transition after the dash where she sort of slows down to make that graceful pose thing and there's no way to even cancel it by running, which in turn makes me consume even more stamina as after every pose i have to make a mad dash to avoid getting hit by enemies while i set up her little fox thingies (and I still got hit several times by the trial mitachurls). The pose is pretty but yeah, it makes her even more vulnerable and hinders her mobility and we can all agree it's annoying getting yeeted mid attack, and it's not like everyone's gonna put her in a team comp that has a shielder

Even now after Dendro is released her kit gives no aid to what her main function is and reduces her effectiveness in the roles she can play. The two weirdest things about her kit besides the obvious frustration with the animation lock at the end of each skill forcing you to cancel with a dash or another skill (it’s egregiously unnecessary and is the reason people want s cause she does the tiny stupid pause and if it worked like a normal dash where she moved fast then went back to normal speed rather than walking then people wouldn’t ask for s) is literally just the weirdness of her electro application and burst CD-turret duration. She works best in situations where there are multiple enemies and can only hit one at a time!?? On top of that, if she is hitting just one enemy they really force the idea she’s meant to be played against multiple by making sure her turrets apply only once every 3s/hits YET she has an EM scaling passive which pushes her to fight in reaction teams. The one benefit her totems give though are that they (they can miss actually but usually not) are pretty much guaranteed dmg so taking that into account and with all that I’ve mentioned her best situation for her totems is to be against small enemies that are agile so that NAs would be less effective (aka reducing the effectiveness of Fischl and Beidou if NAs can’t land), probably mid/long range so they don’t converge on you, and who shoot very telegraphed projectiles that without Yae’s skill might be annoying to dodge. The other problem is just mind boggling to me and that is the Burst CD being 22s with a 1-2s animation while the totem duration is 14s with a 2s setup. This means we are looking at a Yae having to setup the totems twice for every one burst. Pretty much all other sub dps need to burst switch and maybe skill afterward quickly but then they are done quickly which gives the smallest team damage loss since every second wasted switching when a main dps is ready to go is a loss. The problem here is that Yae is going to setup her totems and give her team 12s to rotate and then need to setup her totems at the 14s mark after the team rotation but have to burst at the 22s mark which is only 6s after Yae has reset her totems, in other words she suddenly only gives her team 6s to rotate. So her optimal team setup is apparently one that wants to rotate in 12s and then in 6s and then in 12s and then in 6s. She was just not made optimally for the sub dps role at all!!! And her NA multis suck for how low her AS is meaning she can’t pull main dps without being an aggravate driver. I love Yae and have her at R1 but I gotta say. The only team I can use her optimally is a Sara, Nahida, and Jean team. Luckily Yae’s one benefit to her clunky rotation is that Sara’s clunky buff mechanic works super well for her. I have Sara C6 and I can always skill and give Yae the buff and then do a quick 6s rotation and do the charge shot feather and switch back to Yae for the 2nd buff. She’s actually the best electro character at utilizing Sara’s charge attack buff by far since she can dash towards it. And both Jean and Nahida need like no field time so I get to play this game of fetch with Sara and Yae. Besides this team though I can’t see a way that Yae fits into a team optimally without causing dps loss on herself or on other characters simply due to how her CDs, totem duration, and setup time was made. They should make her burst have higher multipliers and happen every 28s or a fun game would be to lower it to a 12s CD and increase the totem duration to a nice 15 while keeping the burst cost high at 90. This way mono electro would become her preferable team at least and she’d be the 5 star Beidou with the gameplay of Fischl. They could also make her bolts AoE since it’s kinda unfair they only hit one enemy when so many characters like Ganyu have such high numbers yet can hit 20 enemies at once from afar. At 15s totem duration with 2s setup and a 12s burst CD then she could always Burst every 12s consistently if she has enough energy coming her way. Her C1 would increase in value this way too.

@@phunghieu7093 Tbh I think it’s just the constant application and large AoE. The blooms just always get hyperbloomed with Kuki. With Yae her totems don’t really target them and if they do you lose out on skill dps and her autos always lock onto targets and miss blooms

Honestly I’m really tired of ppl having to be nice and call a character balanced to avoid talking about their blatant issues, as if mihoyo will get their feelings hurt. Inazuma has had a few busted characters but everyone else needs constant defense and lukewarm praise and I’m so sick of it, since mihoyo doesn’t believe in listening to play testers or patching characters post-release

I think ppl don’t make statements/videos like this due to the fanbase. The backlash honestly can be seen as not worth it in a way. Similar to meta channels having to EXPLICITLY state that their video is for people who only care for meta. See TenTen’s video on Yae for a good example on how much you have to justify making a video like that.

The formation shiet you suggested is awesome, in my opinion. For hardcore players that wants to maximise damage in certain scenarios, it gives them the increased ceiling of playing that character. Heck, to make it simpler, press and hold could have diff effect (like many other characters, should be easier to implement). Holding consumes remaining charges and maybe could have diff effects depending on charges consume, yknow like bigger electric foxes, a 2 or 3 charge fox give a type of (spd/def/etc) buff.

They could've done so much more, I really like your E orientation idea! It would even thematically tie in with the cleansing ritual puzzles in Inazuma: placing her turrets (wards) down in a specific pattern/order would trigger unique effects (summoning the samurai spirit to be cleansed). Like a triangle giving you a burst of damage + electro particles on completion if an enemy is inside it, or a Z/N shape giving you an electro buff to your team for its duration, and the line doing the extra single target damage as you said. In terms of more feasible improvements I'm down for your changes for sure. Instant energy + Iframes, and burst just refreshing duration instead of destroying would make her feel WAY better to play, and wouldn't even be that egregious IMO.

When i was play testing her in the event playtesting i noticed that her E can interrupt her auto attack. Normally while auto attacking with a catalyst user i find that i just end up getting hit without being able to move out of the way and this is because you cant normally cancel auto attack animations of catalyst users with the run(dodge) button. That mixed with the animation itself makes me think that this was actually just a dodge when it was first designed. Giving a main DPS catalyst user the ability to dodge would be pretty good in carry teams, and having the dodge being tied to damage while also being limited would create an interesting balancing act of dodging and dealing. Though i can see how that playstyle would fall apart considering some of the other characters, cough zongli cough. Either way she is hot and has one of my fave character designs from the roster which makes me regret losing the 50 50 on both my accounts. x'D

Some points i can agree, like the elemental mastery passive, but some i have to disagree. First, if you look at Yae's kit, the only thing interesting about her is her E, its the only thing in her kit that make her fun to play, if she would just put down 1 E, like albedo and fischl, that would be boring AF, no one wants a character to have the same design as another character with a different element, if you dont have a problem with putting down 3E and already master her mechanic, then why not just enjoy it. I can agree at some level that the ult destroying E is somewhat weird but think about the application that it may bring, you can use Q to finish off enemies then a different group of enemies appear at the other side of the room, you can run there and place the new E, the passive actually give you a chance to reposition the E, becuz even though her E recharge pretty fast, it is still 12 sec for all 3 E. Third, this is a minor disagreement, her E actually take up 2/3 of her total damage if you build her right, her burst only deals like 35% of the total damage. However, i do agree that the developer could fix the E dash to have , as it will not directly buff the character and only improve players experience. Setting your hopes up too high would lead to disappointment because right now we could only see her flaw and not enjoying the fun aspect of her kit, i think we need a little more time to actually enjoy her.

I have to disagree with your take on her E. Her E for most people is just annoying and is not fun to play with. Getting knocked constantly is certainly annoying whenever your trying to use her E. Since she doesn't have any super armor or s you constantly have the risk of getting one shotted and knocked. It's just bad design overall. It's trying to be unique for the sake of being unique and it doesn't provide any value for most players and it's just annoying. Plus the honeymoon period for new characters doesn't last long so many in the future would just bench her in my opinion.

if yae is sub dps, she should have mechanic which would help other team members, no battery, high field up time, one single target. i dont care about her burst cost as long as she can produce her own partice each e hits. while i also agree with ur opinion on her e which dont make any sense (have to create 3 triangle, but barely bring any buff towards herself or others. it dont synergize well, if u play it u can feel some sense of clunkinesss

i was suprised because i thought her burst is AOE but not all enemies didnt die (which is the normal wide range of Zhongli/any other AOE burst) well i only tried her in training i was not interested at her.. also because gonna go for future Kazuha rerun

The biggest thing I don't like about her is that she needs 90 energy points to use Q. Like wtf, she is not Raiden Shogun and her build is nothing around energy recharge. It takes like ages to fill up her burst

yes kokomis ascention makes sense *but* often the fighting location will change to be out of reach of her jellyfish. so resetting it's duration is sadly more often than not, not the best solution. i think this mechanic is still very flawed. i wish she could just recast it at a different location like fischl with oz. or give it even more depth: holding the E button will attach the jellyfish to your character so it follows you around. you can decide to use the tap E for aoe freeze at a set location combined with ganyu for example. or hold E for protection when you have to run around alot and single target freeze. in general i wish mihoyo would give characters gameplay just a little more depth. or the satisfying factor like kazuha E for example.

It's not that only, many characters use the same NA, CA, PA animation, and skill styles (taunt, etc). I hope the devs make Genshin like Honkai in which every character has their own battle animation. Edit: I have read a nasty rumor that states: "CN Beta Testers are the ones who make Inazuman characters bad." From the discussion, it's most likely they are talking abojt the kits and playstyles of a character. And this kind of discussion appeared after Yae was out. I would like to ask, has anyone seen this kind of discussion somewhere? I'd like to find similar threads like this. If anyone of you here knows this kind of discussion, please reply this thread.

Having no time limit in Genshin would benefit everyone not just Yae. Even a lvl 1 character can theoretically beat it since the only hurdle would be dodging skills or elemental requirements.

@@dominustempus8969 the thing about time challenges in Genshin Impact is that the enemies (and some characters) we're supposed to fight against has too darn long animations Sure, they're nice to look at but I really wish they would stop the timer every time a character does burst animation or something :')

@@amaryllisputrik.2521 It also acts as an i-frame though so there's a benefit. But yeah I prefer 5 star characters that have a shorter burst animation (like shenhe). It still depends on everyone's preference and others like a longer burst animation.

@@dominustempus8969 Really wished they sticked with the roguelike dungeon. 10 Mins per room is definitely reasonable and it opened many alternative ways for us to play or even them to design a character.

I believe that the point of the Yakan Evocation being designed like that was not necessarily for dodging or for having a choice. They put a dash because just putting down the E without extra movement makes it a sluggish set-up. The dash was not for dodging, but for faster set-up. The 3 charges was for you to place them down manually, because there is no current method of targeting system to put down all 3 by the player's design all the time.

I am a resident Yae Simp BUT- put simply, After 6months of Saving for Her- I can Say her with her Signature Weapon dose less Dmg then My sub Dps Albedo Blossms (With Less AoE) wile not being 1/2 Geo resonance & subDps’s worse then my C6 Fischl. I know she has No artifact Set and May Pair well with Dendro in the Future, but I Feel like I Have no Control over this Characters Kit when I Play her. It’s NOT ONLY her skill AI. I Tried Ulting the PMA multiple times in spiral abyss. After it spit into four Wile standing next to the only non invulnerable target- her Ult managed to hit a target 20ft away that was invincible. -Clunky Auto Tracking AI Based Autos -Clunky Skill Dash, Terrible Skill AI -AI based Ultimate you can’t Aim All that wile having Lower DEF then most 4stars. . Even Mona has I-Frames on her Skill hold & she has faster longer rage Autos. Why have the Need to push Skill 3 times when it dose not change the way the ability functions? It just increases its Dmg. Why dose her Auto attacks not MARK ENEMIES so her Ult and Skill can Prioritizes specific Enemies? I mean that would of been smart of them Right? Am I Sad- Yea but it’s not like they are going to change her so enjoy the copium with Me.🍷At Least she is Beautiful. .

I sense a Huge changes for a character gameplay, with so much complaint, I rather have energy recharge buff on damage, rather than EM, if she rely so much of it

you might have chosen to not include leaked info or you were not aware, but the first ascension passive yae has now used to be a constellation...in addition, kaguras verity stacks duration are not individual, it just takes longer to reach full stacks for other catalyst users, but getting the third stack resets the duration for all three stacks. wish i had seen this video earlier, now my comment is probably worthless anyway. in general i just had the feeling you simply dont like yae period and thats why you are pretty harsh on her xD
