I know that this is an older video. But I taught English in Guangzhou a long time ago and preferred to travel by overnight ferry in the Pearl River Delta to Hong Kong and Macau. My friends said that Nan Sha is an important port for Guangzhou. The old port that I used to dock at was Haung Po. It was very antiquated with the old style equipment. Of course, now all of the port facilities in China are very modern and first rate. A HK company, Hutchinson Whampoa developed the first modern ports in China. Now the company is called HPH, which is one of the world's largest port management firms, and helped to develop Yan Tian port. As you know the Pearl River Delta is one of the busiest areas in the world and I'm sure quite a challenge to navigate. The old overnight ferries no longer operate in the Pearl River Delta. One day I hope that you visit SheKou which is one of the busiest ports in China near Shenzhen. Unfortunately it is far from the city where the cheap electronics markets are located.

Passage planning today , is more than just taking a ship from one port to another. With fuel optimisation, voyage optimisation plays a very big part as well. The shortest distance is not necessarily the best in terms of fuel consumption.( Vessel would consume excess fuel if she is traversing against currents ). Great work @karan

This is really interesting, I used to work at UKHO (Admiralty) so it’s fascinating to see the modern passage planning process being done here for real with NTMs, ALRS, AVCS etc. They used to talk about the ‘transition to digital’, but there was always different ideas in navies and the maritime industry about whether they preferred paper or digital and whether hardcopies were needed or not and can see that hasn’t been properly standardised yet. Thankyou for showing uploading this. Wishing you fair seas and following winds :)
