Ryan Smith is a grifting billionaire using taxpayer money for his own gain.

I feel like people who say this don't understand that almost all sports teams work this way. They use "support" from local government to fund stadiums and arenas in hopes that the pay-off is added tourism and business to those areas, which increase the local governments revenue to add back to the community. Not to mention the boom in youth programs and added resources to the community. If you think Ryan Smith isn't providing any of his own funds into this project and won't initially be losing some money investing it into the players, staff, and the dozen other projects that are under way to provide the necessary resources to run a professional franchise than you are kidding yourself.

@@CIronbeard First off, Ryan said that if he were to land an NHL Franchise, he would pay for a new arena elsewhere at his expense. After he got the NHL team, the city council begged him to keep his teams in downtown. When that happened, he made a demand that the city cough-up the money to use for his own purposes, and one of those purposes, is to renovate the Delta Center, a building Smith himself owns. Smith is putting up some of his money, but not all, and the money he is using is complete extortion from taxpayers regardless. All this is nothing more than a profit making venture that only he, businessmen, developers, and government officials are going to benefit from. Period. If anyone believes that revamping that area downtown is going to be a huge boost for the economy, and is going to attract more tourism dollars is a complete simpleton. So sick and tired of people who are proponents of this acting like they are going to benefit from it directly, when they are not, and have been gaslighted into believing any of it as betterment for the city. There needs to be laws for professional sport franchise owners to be totally banned from ever using public funds. Yes, Smith literally is a conniving two-faced fraud.

@@CIronbeard Oh, and one more thing: The ticket fees imposed going towards affordable housing, and Japan town area, isn’t a “giveback” from SEG. SEG is acting as a middleman to transfer wealth from attendees back to the city.

@Carrollavirus so creating good relationships with city officials and working with them to create a better venue downtown, especially with the Olympics coming to Salt Lake in 10 years he's a manipulative extortionist? We saw great benefits for Salt Lake after the 2002 Olympics with the creation of Trax and Frontruner. I have worked Downtown and I love the idea of the entertainment district. Creating close by and on-site restaurants and hotels will only improve visiting individuals to the downtown area. I understand the sentiment of "my taxes" but we only need to look to our neighbors in Nevada and see what professional sports have done to renovate and improve Las Vegas. I'm not saying we should trust SEG wholeheartedly and without criticism. I just haven't seen them do anything I would consider out of the ordinary or dishonest when it comes to starting up this franchise so far.

Could Utah's jersey be any more lame. I have a nice collection of hockey jerseys but this is one teams jersey that I will definitely not be buying this year. I don't care if it is the first season jersey. It is crap

I'm sorry you'll miss out on this collectable.

@CIronbeard I thought with this being an expansion team, some marketing considerations would have factored in on the design. When Las Vegas debuted their jersey, that was a must-have. This jersey looks like the owner tried to save money and designed it himself. Compared to all the other jerseys in the league, I feel the Utah fans will be disappointed in their's.
@CIronbeard3 ай бұрын
@damonryan2861 time was a huge factor on the design. They didn't even have the designed jersey for their Draft picks. It's not about saving money it was about creating a product that could be produced in time for them to play with. Again you don't have to buy it if you don't like it but you'll be missing out on some really unique hockey history down the road.

@@damonryan2861 It was very last minute, these things take a long time. Season 2 will involve a team name and all branding / jerseys associated with it.
