I love Sleeping Dogs and whenever I've tried explaining to people what makes it so compelling, I've always felt like my explanation was missing something. Not saying I had the exact same points and depth as you, but quite a bit DID hit close to home. Amazing video.

It's a great game and I agree that the GTA comparisons give the wrong impression, sleepy dogs does some great world building and storytelling that avoids a lot of the GTA tropes. The lack of cynical humour is pretty refreshing too, the world just feels like it has a lot of heart instead of falling back on mockery and heavy stereotypes all the time

Honestly I feel like what Peggy represents (and why it makes what happens narratively inevitable) isn't just Winston's love interest - she represents family. Not just for Winston, she welcomes Wei and makes him feel like he's part of something real, instead of an outsider. She feels like a sister to him (I think she literally says something along those lines) and helps him process what happened with his real sister. And she gives some deeper insights into Winston and the kind of person he is, who the people in this gang actually are, more than just violent thugs. The mission where you drive her around is like a turning point where Wei finally comes home and has something good to look forward to, more than crimes and empty revenge - a future with people who care about him. That's what made later events inevitable to me (and gave them much more impact and gravity)

Little tip, ditch the golden cleaver and use counters, anytime you get knife from enemy via counter or pick it up, THROW IT AWAY and continue using fists
